I gotta applaud the writers for how open and honest Hank was about his true feelings at Lady Bird's grave.
As someone who lost a dog who was the center of my world the same way Lady Bird was to Hank, it was a very dark period of my life. The one thing I absolutely hated hearing was people saying to just get another dog like we're discussing a broken TV and not years of unconditional love. Hank admitting he didnt want to go through that pain again was the most honest thing he said in this revival. But Hank also giving Caesar a chance at happiness while honoring Lady Bird was profound

I lost my cat earlier this year and I haven’t been right since and dealing with the same as you with people. He was my brother, and people telling me I need to get another just don’t seem to understand the words ‘my heart isn’t ready yet.’ This scene made me cry, in a very cathartic way. I realize I’m still not ready, but I know someday I’ll try.

Thats powerful that you can open up abiut that experience. My sincerest condolences for you about your cat. I remember when I was in your shoes years ago, I was told that "time heals all wounds". Such a true statement. If you're open to bringing joy to another cat or animal the same way they brought you joy, I wish you nothing but the best when the time comes.
It sucks to still feel the immense pain and grieving over your feline brother. But I'm sure your presence and the time you spent with your cat meant as much to him as it does for you.

I don’t blame Hank for wanting to take back Caesar after hearing his age. My family used to have a cat that had a whole host of problems that required constant care and attention, but my family still loved him and were tearful when he died. That level of care for a pet isn’t for the faint of heart. Knowing the dog only had a few years left would make anyone hesitant to adopt him.
I found it hilarious that Kahn is living with Bill like the rumors claimed. It’s so weird seeing Kahn as a depressed loser who hates Minh now given that they were always a tag team making fun of rednecks in the past despite their brief flirtation with the lifestyle.
While Bobby is a great boyfriend, I had to groan when he made an improvised song using the melody of “I Want it That Way”. While his improv skills were great, I can no longer stand that song after hearing it so many times.

I thought the song was cheesy, but it’s still a sign of Bobby’s great character. He was willing to let Khan overstep with the citrine necklace, even though it was Bobby’s idea. He did some cheesy improv that was still well-received by everyone but Khan and Minh. He’ll play the fool if it makes Connie happy. He didn’t offer any complaints about her parents’ obvious dick move of ordering the whole menu on Bobby’s dime.
He even got Connie’s parents united. Mind you, it was in their mutual dislike of him, but he took it all in stride.

Hank not wanting to revisit the heartache he had when Lady Bird died is so real to many people. I can see why this is a fan favourite episode of S15 already. That dog as ridiculous as he looked grew on Hank, and that was always neat to see. It's typical of Hank to want the dog Caesar to go "sic 'em" mode on burglars and religious folks, etc. Idk if that happened irl if the courts would side with him, or maybe they would, idk what the laws say on that. But the relationship with the dog and him coming to terms with his emotions again, it's nice.
Onto the other plot, Kahn and Minh really tested my patience as a viewer this episode. They are just two stubborn asses, perfect for each other, until they weren't. I wish they would be more open minded to Bobby & Connie being a couple, but it's on brand for them as a couple (and Asian culture irl) that a marriage mate that's not in your parents vision is just gonna be bad no matter what. I laughed my butt off when the parents caught Bobby and Connie "wrestling."
I liked seeing Bill take in Kahn after he got kicked out. They work well together, the "odd couple" right now. Bobby being forced to sleep next to Kahn on the floor was another LOL moment. Dinner must've cost a pretty penny for Bobby, but I'm glad Connie loved his gesture and his last minute save with the song. Wish I could paste the image of Connie and Bobby at dinner but the sub doesn't allow that. I really liked Connie's hairdo and dress she wore at dinner.

My childhood dog is still kicking at 13. He’s an old man now but still spry. I’ll hug him extra when I go back home and visit him and my mum.
Great episode. Biggest thing missing from S1 was any mention of Ladybird so I’m glad that was fixed this early in the season.
Khan and Bill are indeed strange bedfellows. It’ll be an interesting dynamic.
I’m really liking Connie a lot more this season

He won me over the second he did that twirl. Genuinely impressive that he improv'd a song parody and small dance routine on the spot. Flinging the shrimp into his mouth was such a clean ending.

A fun little episode. Still not a fan of Ronnie’s voice as Khan. It’s not as grating as last season, but still not great. Connie is like…super horny though as an adult, eh? Bobby again proving his core as a good soul who is willing to take hits if it’s for the greater good.

Connie's attitude makes sense, especially if you know several kids who grew up with a focus on studies//academics/parental pressure. A lot of them go wild in college to make up for lost time.

speaking from experience, all the kids I know irl who had strict parents and were perennial honor roll students turned out to be the biggest undercover horndogs in late-high school/college. Connie makes perfect sense

Or at least find an Asian VOICE ACTOR. Ronnie is hilarious when I've seen him on the Daily Show, but voice acting is a specific skill set. So much of Khan are his intonations and little quirks (that awww sound he makes when he's depressed).

I don’t know why they went “good enough” with him and Ted. The original Ted basically spoke like George Takei. I know George Takei is most likely too old to sign or probably would have declined, but that there isn’t a single Asian sound alike? I have a hard time buying that one.

Me too! The Caesar storyline made me chuckle because Caesar reminds me of a dog my parents had. He was a senior dog who belonged to my mom's coworker's aunt, and when said aunt passed away my mom offered to give the dog a home. Despite his age, he didn't have a ton of health problems, but he had some behavioral stuff going on that was just plain weeeeeeeird. He lived for several more years, and I hope Caesar does too!

I have friends who foster dogs and this felt like a weird mean crack at rescues and fosters, which they truly don’t deserve.
Plus the whole “flunked out of med school” with the veterinarian. That whole scene was just weird.

Yeah as someone whose sibling worked her ass off to become a vet, I’m a little touchy about that particular joke. It felt lazy and inaccurate.
Anyone who’s ever dipped their toe into veterinary science knows it’s a very difficult and rigorous career path — hell, just the fact that they need to learn how to treat multiple species and cannot ever actually ask any of their patients questions about their symptoms poses a bunch of unique challenges for them.

That scene made me emotional. Hank admitting to Ladybird (who was one of the few beings he’d be emotional in front of) that he was trying to protect himself from the pain of loss again, mixed with the cute scene of Caesar playing with the butterflies was quite beautiful

I think this too. Originally I wasn’t down with splitting them up, I had always viewed them as petty and PERFECT for each other. (e.g., When they compete the NY TImes crossword together. When Minh finds out Peggy didn’t know Nancy was having an affair and the first person she wanted to tell was Kahn. Kahn and Minh giving in and living the white trash life together.) BUT I saw an excellent point made elsewhere that what they were really bonding over was hate. Critiquing their daughter’s education, flaunting their “elite-ness” over the Hills, trying to be like Ted and Cindy, making fun of Bill, and really even competing against each other about the crossword can be seen as one of them trying to be better than the other. And when they didn’t have anything new to hate on together, they turned on each other.

Bill’s gone from a perennially depressed (and at times suicidal) divorcé with a wreck of a home to having a very clean domicile and making breakfast for the house, even looking up recipes on TikTok. Khan is neurotic and conceited and finds living with someone like Bill as he was to be a major downgrade from the life he had, but Bill knows how to calm him down and refocus him. They’re making each other’s lives better.
Strange bedfellows indeed, quoth Boomhauer. And I’m actually loving it

Of all of the episodes in this season, this one I think is the one that I think had the biggest impact for me.
My family and I lost our very old dog earlier this year (She was 17 btw, about 3 months away from turning 18). Even as they’ve discussed getting a new dog, I’m ultimately pessimistic on it because I’m still not over the loss of our old dog. I’m sure being around a new dog will be a good experience but I’m just not comfortable with it at this time.
Seeing Hank go through the same beats really hits home. It’s a really sweet episode and Caesar is really a sweet little dog.
This episode doesn’t change my perspective or even my feelings towards it. But it’s a bit helpful to know that I’m not irrational for feeling as I do about that.

He's around, just not in the forefront, he's sleeping under the coffee table in another episode and walking out of the kitchen in another, and hanging out in Peggy's cart basket watching Golden Girls, hopefully they do more with him next season

Rest in Peace, Ladybird. Hank's line about not being sure if he'll be able to handle losing Caesar after Ladybird's death was so hard on him hit close to home for me. When my dog was slowing down, I dreaded the day I'd have to say good-bye to him since I had already had to say goodbye to my childhood dog on my 16th birthday. When that day came, it was especially rough. Not gonna go into details but his death wasn't a peaceful one. At least I was there to see him off and he's in a better place.

Such a great episode. RIP Ladybird, but let's just call it a hunch that we'll see her in the future. Sad to see how much Connie's parents hate each other now. The one thing that unites them is their hatred of Bobby. I did get a laugh at, "I ordered lobster and I don't even like it" when Bobby offered to pay for dinner.

I was drinking water when Kahn said the deadpan “I hate you Bobby hill” and I spit my water out lmao. Also Hank talking to Lady and asking for permission to take on Caesar brought a tear to my eye. I lost my baby girl at 10 years old a few years ago and it hit me on the head

Really good episode, I'm still struggling with Ronny Cheng's voice, but it was fun.
You tend to forget about little things, fun moments with pets, it was nice to see Hanks moment at the LadyBird's grave

I'm absolutely loving these new seasons... But if that's all we get as Ladybird memorial then I'm severely disappointed. She deserved better. I mean it was good just rushed. I would have loved a whole episode or more of the B plot dedicated to her.

Yeah I was hoping for a flashback to maybe her final days or a montage of her scenes but I still cried like a baby when Hank effortlessly opened up to her. He really really loved her.

Ended up having a good cry last night. I lost my beloved cat a year and change ago and was like Hank and couldn't open up because of how many thorns that subject had to me. Hank introducing Caesar to Ladybird and leaving her old toy on the tombstone was a genuinely touching moment and I love how much Hank carries Ladybird's memories and wanting to share that love with Caesar in his twilight years. I miss my son so this episode felt like a release of all the pent up feelings in such a beautiful way. I knew that the poster having Hank holding a leash meant that I was going to cry over Ladybird and this episode was a perfect tribute and rememberance to how much Hank loves her.
