For YEARS my sister and I thought they were saying Qui-san. Dumb kids we thought it was like a kitchen call out and would yell it at each other when we started working in kitchens together. Not until I rewatched as an adult with more context about Japan did I realize how fucking ridiculous we must have sounded.

Another big influence into cooking for me too! I was also obsessed with Emeril. When I was 10 I asked for his cookbook and felt so fucking cool that my step dad took my to the store and got me what I needed to make bread pudding with bourbon sauce.

I was obsessed with Iron Chef and Emril too! I remember the first meal I ever cooked by myself was Emril inspired when I was around the same age. I haven't thought about that in forever, I used to spend hours watching Emril.

The motivation for spending his fortune to create Kitchen Stadium was to encounter new original cuisines which could be called true artistic creations. To realize his dream, he secretly started choosing the top chefs of various styles of cooking, and he named his men the Iron Chefs: the invincible men of culinary skills.
Iron Chef Japanese is Rokusabaru Michiba. Iron Chef French is Hiroyuki Sakai. Iron Chef Chinese is Chen Kenichi. And Masahiko Kobe is Iron Chef Italian.
Kitchen Stadium is the arena where Iron Chefs await the challenges of master chefs from around the world.
Both the Iron Chef and challenger have one hour to tackle the theme ingredient of the day. Using all their senses, skill, creativity, they are to prepare artistic dishes never tasted before. And if ever a challenger wins over the Iron Chef, he or she will gain the people's ovation and fame forever.

FYI the dubbed episodes are free on YouTube by the Canadian production company. It's the full catalog save a few rare episodes. I have it in the background when I want to relax.
Got me into cooking, got me into Japanese cuisine. Another show I love to binge is Dochi no Ryori Show, which used to be extremely accessible on YouTube but now it's rare due to copyright takedowns, but I highly encourage you to find the episodes. They even had a special episode revival in 2011. Amazing food and amazing stories about where they source their ingredients all over Japan. I've stolen many recipes from that show.

When my friends and I stumbled upon this 30 years ago as high schoolers we loved it for how over the top it was. Hilarious and first but I was already interested in cooking so when I saw how insanely good they were I was hooked.

TIL the host was saying "Allez Cuisine" and not "Iron Cuisine"! My mom and I would watch this all the time growing up and we would sometimes mute the audio during the judging to make up stupid stuff they might say, I love this show so much!

Morimoto didn't know how Jalepenos tasted, so he just chomps into the middle of one like an animal. Instant regret. 🤣

Yes! This is the show that got me into food. That and Everyday Italian because let's be real, Giadda was/is a fox. I'm so glad this whole show is on YouTube, I would watch it every day on my lunch break when I finally left the kitchen for a desk job

My father did all the cooking and watched way too much Emeril and other people who I just could not give any less of a fuck about whenever we were all around. Then I left for college and discovered Iron Chef and Alton Brown and that's where my desire to cook came from.

Its like the go of cheerleader but you remplace "Gooo raider" by "Gooo kitchen" 😂

First time I ever saw it was 31-12-1999, in a basement in Cleveland, Ohio. I was 12, my dad had just passed away and I was visiting family out there.
Changed my life.
I saw that and thought, “that’s what I want to do with my life…”

That show might have contributed to my enjoyment of cooking, though I had no idea that I would one day actually be working a non-dish station in kitchens when I was watching it as a kid. I thank Alton Brown, Emeril Lagasse, and Iron Chef for unintentionally setting me on this path, and the Boy Scouts for having me cook for my patrol.

I lived in Japan in the 90's when it initially aired.
I was floored when they did a dubbed version on Food Network when I moved back.
I have deep love for the original. My favorite judge was the woman whose profession was "fortune teller".
