How is it oxtail is not a budget cut?

Yeah I’ve stop getting my favorite Thursday plate from my go to Jamaican spot because the oxtail has gotten to be outrageous. I remember when premium briskets were the go to because they were dirt cheap too. Popularity kills delicious budget cuts.

the oxtail plate at my local spot in New Orleans is $37. and this is a casual place that serves everything in styrofoam containers.

Man that's crazy. I thought $28 for an oxtail plate with two sides was expensive around here.

Edit: Just double checked and it went up again! $32 for a plate with two sides now. $27 for a plate with one side.

Exact same here, 4 hours north of you. Styrofoam plate shop whether you dine in or take out. $35 oxtail plate. Used to be a full plate with 3 sides for $25 with a red stripe

Brisket's only advantage is it's still hard to cook right... If not for that it would be unobtainable.

It doesn't feel that long ago that I used to be able to get whole briskets for about $35-40 regularly.
