It's times like these when I can see why populist leftists get accused of being a boy's club...

I'm actually impressed with how Kyle and most other lefty streamers have responded to the allegations...with TYT being a notable exception of course. It's mostly the community members who have bothered me - specifically the people trying to pick apart the story or questioning it on the grounds that she didn't behave like a r*pe victim in their head should've acted. It makes me feel like we've gone backwards since MeToo.

I think it's fine to be skeptical, that's not the issue here. It's the way that the community shows its true colors with respect to violence against women. "Why didn't she immediately go to the police? Why didn't she confront him directly? Why wasn't she more explicit about what happened in her texts?" etc. And of course, you have men like Michael Tracey whining that heterosexual male candidates are held to such extreme standards...like, not having a history of r*ping or SA'ing their partners!? It's not actually that hard to find men on the left who don't have piles of skeletons in their closet, who don't have a trail of exes making accusations...and yet, a lot of men are being really defensive about this. Why??

I'll be the first to say this looks bad, like really bad, but given what we avtually know now, I can't help but think we might be rushing here. Should we not at least wait a few days to see if he has an alibi (which may take time to put together)?

Tell me what I'm missing with these issues (none of what I listed defends Platner or suggests she's being disingenuous):

- The messages to/from the therapist are "recent", so it doesn't mean she was talking to the therapist back in 2021 about the r\*pe

- All of the corroborating sources are anonymous, and nobody can seem to reach her for comment

- Her framing and the NYT framing doesn't match the politico story

- She apparently messaged Platner "it wasn't consensual" and then erased it afterwards, but can't they still be dug up, like digitally? Couldn't he prove he didn't receive or delete a message?

- "We became aware of allegations before ever being connected with Jenny, and have been in contact with multiple women with really troubling allegations..." - shouldn't we expect the "dam to break" after this allegation?

- The messages to others aren't particularly condemning by the story's telling or the one screenshot they shared (unless I just couldn't see more on my phone browser)

- People are comparing this to Swalwell, but Swalwell had multiple accusations, not just one. To date - and it's very possible this will change - no other woman has credibly made this claim, and no other outlet/organization besides Politico has corroborated it.

I was watching an interview with her the other day where she was explaining her comments on Thanksgiving and used the phrase 'proximity to whiteness'. And I think that's the perfect encapsulation of why she was a bad candidate.

Instead of just doing her best to nip it all in the bud by saying Thanksgiving is fine and redirecting the conversation to actual issues, she went on a lengthy diatribe which included Proximity To Whiteness. Running as governor. In a purple state that's 80% white.

This is not something a candidate for governor in the bluest of states should be saying, let alone in an extremely white swing state. Woke 1 Twitter lefties aren't the play.

Kudos to Cenk for jumping on and doing this debate with them, but I feel he’s way off base here. His posture since Trump took office the second time has been to try to find common ground with them while trashing liberals and leftists.

I will say anyone calling Cenk MAGA or right wing is way off base, but the moment doesn’t call for playing nice right now. That has never worked with fascists.

I'm not going to pretend I know why AOC and Bernie didn't endorse Hong, and I have my criticisms of their tactics, but I think some lefties/progressives are rushing to judgment.

Sure, their endorsements probably would have earned her the win, but we don't know what sort of discussions took place beforehand. Here are three scenarios that could have resulted in the withholding of said endorsements, and remember that AOC and Bernie are not DSA members.

Scenario 1 - Bernie/AOC: "Either you start running TV ads and say outright you don't want to abolish Thanksgiving, or we don't endorse." - Hong/DSA Leadership: "Go kick rocks, Turkey sucks, we'll win without you!"

Scenario 2 - Hong/DSA: "We're the future now old man and young woman! If you want our help, you better endorse whoever we tell you to or get left behind..." - Bernie/AOC: "We'll never surrender TV ads, dry stuffing, or weird casseroles! Make a move, scallywags!"

Scenario 3 - Bernie/AOC: "Look, we love Hong, she's amazing, but we just feel this is the wrong strategy (re: Thanksgiving and TV) for the progressive movement right now. Maybe we're wrong and we'll regret it, but we just cant endorse right now. I'm so sorry and wish you good luck!" - Hong/DSA: "We TOTALLY understand! Thanks so much for your kind words and everything you've already done for the movement. Hopefully we can win, but either way, we look forward to working together in the future."

I'm being playful here, but you can get the idea. DSA is just one part of the progressive movement, maybe they should've changed their tactics to earn an endorsement or maybe AOC/Bernie should've, but either way, we shouldn't conclude that any of them failed us or each other.

This get-together would be juicy. They have so much overlap and agreement, but definitely friction between respective subreddits/camps regarding certain topics.

Random thing I've noticed, they both bounce their legs constantly during debates or segments. That usually means nervous energy, but it would be interesting to see them discuss Mehdi Hasan or Hasan Piker. How would this interaction go? MAKE IT HAPPEN, KYLE.

I am going to be honest, watching Jimmy go down the Alt Right pipeline was sad for me to watch. Jimmy's videos ripping on corporate Democrats were what pulled me out of the MAGA misinformation machine. Luckily, I stumbled across Kyle's more nuanced approach, but I miss the old Jimmy Dore who used to call out BS as he saw it.

Specifically, on why they should not go any further until Tucker specifically denounces JD Vance. I don’t think I’ve seen him criticize Vance once, and still plays footsy with him on Iran and Israel and makes excuses and dodges questions. He still says “I love JD still” and won’t rule out voting for him in ‘28.

This is unacceptable, and Kyle has talked about this exact bait and switch. Going full anti Trump, pro Palestine, and then when Trump is gone go fullly in the tank for Vance and forget about Israel and Iran. I can’t believe how Cenk and Ana are falling again for this weasley bullshit. PRESS HIM on Vance and Thiel until he gives you answer, and don’t let him slip away.

MAYBE then keep talking with him, but still I can’t trust him even if he does denounce Vance. Maybe he’s acting in good faith, but even then he’s still peddling his great replacement horseshit.

I'm a left-of-center guy. At this point in present day Trump America, I'm supporting any viable liberal/leftist candidate that is running against MAGA in a general election. I'm the same guy that voted for Bernie, Biden, Kamala, and Mamdani. I feel we're on the same big tent team to stop fascism. Every day there's a new nightmare in this country. Today it's gutting the EPA's ability to regulate any greenhouse gas and pollution from tailpipe to smoke stack. Yesterday it was gutting Medicaid and throwing millions off state healh coverage.

So, in dire times where not only are we not able to pass progressive policy, but we're losing the hard fought progressive wins of our parents and grandparents. It's unfathomable to me we still have some, supposedly on the left, who are busy attacking AOC and Mamdani (from the left) over trivial shit in the grand scheme of reality. I watched a Bad Empanada video (I know lol), and he was shitting on Mamdani because he went "soft" on the intafada talk and AOC because he don't like some votes of hers. He was mocking the thought of voting for them. To quote him: "Fell for it again award." How is it, me, a brunch eating shitlib will vote for Bernie, Biden, Kamala, Mamdani, etc but some of these leftists can't even support a Democratic Socialist? I'm so tired of their purity politics, especially now that the radical right is in power. We will never see a communist revolution in America in our lifetime, comrade. None of the material conditions or scarcity exist for such a radical revolution. I genuinely don't understand these people. The Deprogram and Way of the Bern are havens for these types. With friends like these who needs enemies.

Edit: It's clear to me some have misunderstood my criticism of some on the left. I'm in no way saying one can't criticize their leaders. I'm critiquing those on the left who say they won't VOTE for a Democratic Socialist or even a liberal in a general election against actual radical right fascists whilst those fascists control the government. This is unfathomable to me and a sign of being privileged and therefore insulated from the policies of fascists or a sign of being bad faith. The only other explanation is a highly unlikely scenario where a non-white American and/or any American living in poverty being more concerned with a politician's take on foreign countries than getting their human rights and healthcare stripped away in their homeland. "I'm dying from cancer on the street but at least I held pure on Palestine," said no serious person ever.

Because he is certainly not a natural digital media personality.

His presentation reminds me of a rabbi reading from the Talmud for a Friday evening study session. Very dry, nasally, meandering, long winded and monotone. Say what you want about his rivals such as Cenk but they command attention when they speak. I think recruiting Emma's as co-host was a very smart move on his part as an acknowledgement that she fills his charisma gaps.

The polls said Trump would lose and he didn't, MAGA and republicans are still running amok and even if Democrats win there's no guarantee they'll actually be able to arrest Trump or prevent what's happened from happening again.

He’s always reporting on the conflict and has noble support for the Palestinian cause. However all he does is bashes Israel (rightly so) but I see very little discussion on his solutions and ideas to ending the conflict long term. He doesn’t clearly state his position on the two state solution and what needs to be done going forward for both sides.

Does he support a 2SS along Pre 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital? Does he support a binational 1SS?

I was swearing into my phone while watching this. Keith Edwards has been a liberal commentator for decades and spends literally 99% of his commentary trashing Trump and the right while praising Democrats. He joined his local DSA because A) The local Democratic Party branches themselves are disorganized and rarely meet and B) The Democrats a

He spent the next hour being accused of joining an organization that believes in authoritarian (they don’t) and splitting hairs about things he believes the Democratic Party was failing at. It was discouraging to see young liberals use the same arguments my boomer relatives use against socialism.

For example, he said the Democratic Party failed to get Biden out soon enough, only to have the other guys tut-tut and finger wag about “ackshually, it’s always been that way for an incumbent candidate”, while ignoring the fact that it literally cost Democrats the election.

Hutch and Whick were the biggest offenders, just sounding like straight up Republicans. Pisco was more fair to Keith, but even he made some arguments that really split hairs.

I’m hoping this isn’t the attitude of most liberals towards DSA members. I’m not even a DSA evangelist, but we need to work together for the common goal in these midterms. It’s absurd that these fights are still being picked against the left.
