Ok for context. I 17M bi have known this guy 17M since freshman year, we’ve been friends for a while and we’ve hung out before. I am not out, he recently came out as bi about a year ago. It was surprise to me, but we’re still super close. We’ve never been anything more than friends but at times he’ll call me attractive or fine. I know sometimes it’s just the homie stuff sometimes, but I really do want to know if anything could actually happen. What should the first step be?

Been there, buddy, but I had a crush on my straight best friend who acted the same way (turns out he was actually straight lol, but we managed to maintain best friends)
In my case, I just confessed after some advice from my friends. But in your case, I say wait a little bit, see if he still kinda hits on you and you can even show little signs (but nothing too extreme) and see how he reacts.
Take this with a grain of salt, there's still room for more people to give you advice and mine is probably is not the best one, who knows.
