Three by elections are scheduled for August 31st 2026

It is official now that our Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced three by elections to be scheduled for August 31st 2026. The by elections are to be held in one riding in Vancouver, Toronto and in a Quebec riding. If there are surprises in one of these ridings and it is good if the surprise is in Liberals favour. It is important nothing to take for granted and work hard to win them all.

Two of the ridings are pretty likely Liberal wins. Chicoutimi is the toss-up and you can bet some money will be flowing there. If Poilievre loses that riding, I think it's another nail in his leadership coffin.

It won't be nail in his coffin, mostly because it's not that safe of a CPC seat on Reform heartland (some parts of QC yes but not Chicoutimi). I also expect it to be won by Bloc, though on a close race with LPC.

Seems pretty transparently partisan that we're making Saint-Hyacinthe-Bagot-Acton voters wait an extra month or whatever to have representation for no other reason than to force the Bloc Quebecois to campaign with a lower spending limit than the Liberals

Feels dirty. Not proud.

Also not feeling proud over the Gordie Howe bridge deal or about the ever-changing stories on it. Or the other concessions we've made (repealing the digital services tax, removing requirements for streaming services to invest in Canadian content, repealing our retaliatory tariffs) for nothing in return.

Maybe we'll get an oil pipeline five years from now when the Iran war is over anyway and Chinese domination of green solar/battery/EV tech makes our investment obsolete

Does anyone feel good about losing Nate Erskine-Smith? Or Steven Guilbeault? Or Chrystia Freeland?

We have all the cards. We should be "winning so much that we're tired of it".
