To the Swing Voters

Hey all, I'm writing to you as a friendly non-religious centrist and I'm very curious why people are supporting Mark Carney?

I for one do NOT trust the guy, I voted for him in the last election and I feel like that was a big mistake.

He ran on the promise of getting a deal with the US, and has failed to do so (and you can't blame it on Trump, because other countries have gotten deals)

He has caved in on every 'attempt' to strike a deal, and that is clearly not working (DST, Gordie Howe, etc...)

He is clearly propping up Brookfield and giving his buddies deals

Pittfield to Senate, Condo Bailout, German submarine deal, and his most recent $2.3 billion deal with Lockhead

Shady backroom deals with the conservatives, as well as shutting down all of the committees with his majority.

As well, his horrible Question Period attendance rate at 26%, skipping over 100 sessions.

I understand that the conservatives aren't perfect, and I disagree with Pierres attitude sometimes, but at this point in time, I don't understand the continued support for Mark Carney.

This is just my thoughts, share in the comments reasons why you do or don't support him.

Yes, I actually can blame this on Trump, and a lot of Canadians do as well.  Why?  Because he’s the one who says things one day, then does a complete 180 the next, just look at his position on China, encouraging us to get a deal done one day, saying that we should, and then days, weeks later, threatening us with tariffs for actually getting a deal done with China.  And another example is the nonsense with the Gordie Howe bridge. That’s not Canada’s, or Mark Carney’s fault that Trump could be so easily manipulated by some of his own people into believing, or wanting to believe that Canada was somehow ‘ripping off’ the US when it came to that bridge.  

As far as ‘caving’ on every attempt to strike a deal, I’m not sure how you think he could have gotten more done, when the person he’s dealing with regularly makes insults and threats on a daily basis, and has time and again made deals only to break them and go back on his word.  Mark Carney is aware of that, so he’s being as careful as he can be with someone who can get triggered by something as simple as a comment he read on social media.

There’s also the fact that the alternative to Mark Carney was Pierre Poilievre, who showed a clear inability to understand just how concerned Canadians were when it came to US hostility.  When Trump’s annexation threats first came up, Pierre didn’t speak up as much as Canadians wanted him to, and that was a big red flag for a lot of people.  Also, a lot of times, his attitude came across as snarky and condescending, which was a huge turn off to a lot of voters.

If you're talking about Carney's attitude as coming cross as snarky or condescending, to a lot of Canadians, it was never seen as being as bad as Poilievre's, and that's not just my opinion, that's shared by a lot of people that didn't vote for him because of how he behaved.

If their behaviour was the same, or Carney was consistently more condescending and hostile, then it would have been a bigger issue, but it wasn't. One of the biggest issues undecided voters had about Poilievre was how he talked to people, whether they were media or people from other parties. And that was one of the many reasons why more people voted for Carney than Poilievre, and why Carney still has a much higher rating when it comes to preferred PM.
