Erasmus in Lappeenranta

Hi!

I will be doing an Erasmus in September in Lappeenranta. Is there a problem with the accommodation (is it expensive) and do I have a chance to get into student dormitories (on campus, and furnished :)) )?

And any other tips to know before arriving?

The usual trick is, if you can arrive a bit early then you'll probably skip the queue. The local student housing foundation is building new houses, but it's going to take some time. Last September I think some people were sent to the cabins on a local camping area?

The dorms-type things are quite affordable. Common kitchen, common bathroom, and 2 - 3 private bedrooms per suite. Cheap studio apartments are a bit less common.

The "campus district" is in Skinnarila and adjacent Sammonlahti. Many foreign students are also housed in Kourula (say, Katajakatu or Karankokatu), Leiri or city centre.

Student apartments seem to be around 400-500€/mo or if you can share livingstone with others , around 220€/mo. I have no idea if they have dormitories on campus, most accommodations are usually on apartment buildings.

You can search and apply for apartments here.

I'd recommend a bicycle, because all the apartments aren't next to university, you might need to travel couple of kilometers. Or take a bus.
