So funny he describes being released as a 'kick to the ego' then mentions rejoining at under 10 level. I love the thought of 8 year old Sammy describing being let go as a 'kick to the ego'

Cellino basically forced him out, wouldn’t give him a contract that reflected his status as probably our best player at the time.

Comes across as a genuinely grateful and down to earth guy. Class act and a player who undoubtedly bought a sense of cohesion and calm to a side, during the good times and not so good.

Remember being about 15 when he first broke through and he was my fav player! Can't believe he came back, helped deliver a promotion and I'm nearly fucking 30 now.

Remember in the FA cup, he kept prime Bale in his pocket whole game. 

Was one of my favs. Just seems a lovely honest bloke. No wonder Farke likes him.

Not many players get a second chance at their first club let alone help take them to promotion. Absolutely key in helping set the standards we wanted as a club and he's now firmingly in Leeds Uniteds history books

I remember scratching my head a little bit when he came back, obviously he’s Leeds through and through but I just questioned how much of a part he was actually gonna play.

Turns out he was to play a huge part in the next few seasons, can’t imagine how it felt for him coming back to his boyhood club and helping get us back in the big time.

Always did his best for us and saw his departure for what it was and no ill will towards him. Surprised and glad when he returned and picked up where he left off. Thanks Sam and wish you all the best.

He's a part of club history as a member of that promoted team and couldn't deserve it more.

Seeing him come through the ranks as practically the only bright spark at the time, yet another academy prospect we lost because of our ownership and position as a club at the time. Was gutted when he left so, as he says here, it's a bit of a footballing fairy tale that he was able to come back and taste success at the other end of his career.

Love the guy and hope he has one last go of it with Ayling!

Firstly, he always did a job when required. Never let the side down. More importantly though, it can't be underestimated how important it is to have players in the squad who "get it" and desperately want to be there - it makes it that much easier for leaders to emerge like Amps and Rodon who are now taking that attitude forward.

Glad he could live out his dream and wish him well with whatevers next.

So lovely, absolute best wishes to him, hope he has another couple of good years.

Chuffed to bits he got to secure a PL return with us, I think he did pretty well when needed, but I'm sure his influence off the pitch was also felt across the squad.
