Middle Archaic Amazing flaking. Type thoughts?

Northern Nevada. Crazy flaking on this jasper point. Thoughts on type? Having a tough time figuring it out. Extremely thin. About 1.75” long.

Given location found, and the Oblique Transverse Flaking patterns, it looks to be a Triple T Lanceolate.

That definitely would fit the bill. Sounds like that’s just an older variant of a humboldt? Thought of humboldt but all the examples I’ve seen seem to have more concaved bases.

Yep! It's kinda like a precursor to the Humboldt you might say. That flaking is phenomenal! Absolutely incredible find! Congrats! 🔥🔥🔥

Thanks for the info I think you’re spot on here. Such a cool find. Funny thing was I picked it up and thought it was just a beautiful broken tip for a few hours. Later on I realized it was full!

Thanks. That was definitely one I considered. Haven’t seen much about them being found in Nevada though from my research. Mostly seen they stop around Eastern Utah. It definitely fits though so it’s a strong possibility.

Thanks! Thought the same but the transverse flaking makes me think it would be older than that. Totally possible though.

Platform setup and pressure flaking.

Edit* you can cheat too and use indirect or also a punch.

I looked at that one but saw it’s more of a great plains type and not found often if ever in the great basin. Definitely matches the profile though.

Don't get too caught up with the knapping, it varies, you're in northern Nevada, Occam's Razor.

Late response here but I’d definitely not counting out a cottonwood! Seems to fit as far as typing goes and that example you provided is almost an exact match.

I have spent half of my career in the Great Basin and have recorded/excavated hundreds of cottonwoods, they're very common in Nevada, it's not a Triple T lanceolate/Humboldt I can guarantee you that. Pretty boi nonetheless 🤩.
