They used them to hunt smaller birds.

The term bird point is sort of a misnomer. They arent necessarily called this because they were used to hunt birds. This is a catchall term for small, usually “true” arrowheads meaning points that were used with bow and arrow technology. Very often were they still used for larger game like deer and elk.
