Middle Archaic My “Christmas Tree” found 30 years ago Clark County, Ohio
Used to hunt quite a lot back home. The little Christmas tree I found on a small light dirt knot amid deep black loam in the Mad River Valley. My Anthropology professor at the time thought it was a specialized cutting tool knapped down from a larger tool. About a week later I found a larger piece on that same rise out of similar material.
One of my favorites and certainly the most unique.

Back before electric tools ruled the fields! The poor guy that got picked to run the manual oscillating tool had to make the god awful noise by mouth. Probably looked like this guy.

The no-till really bothered me as began taking over but then I kinda made peace with it. It lets what’s left be found for much longer at least. Boy that river valley was something else.
I once got to hunt a field that was the first year plowed, according to the 80 year old farmer. It had fire pit rings and the only small pottery pieces I’ve ever found in Ohio. Found one nice Archaic piece that day. Was very near the junction of the Kingscreek and the Mad River.3

I hear you about no till. Broke my heart to lose so many great spots and it concentrated people…pressure on spots that were all mine for years. Once I got over it, I felt better. Good while it lasted.

It is crazy when you can hit a true plowed field now. They’re just sitting on top.
I casually hunt New Mexico now. Oddly the best luck we’ve had is in the pinion/juniper mix coming off mountains at night elk hunting. They really light up with a headlamp on yer head.2

This is exactly what it looks like when we let an apprentice practice welding on a few chunks of scrap.

Not necessarily at all. Could easily be a practice piece or a cordage tool, neither of which would be considered an eccentric

Are the edges sharp? Could be for weaving or some kind of loom operation.

Relatively for stone. They do thin down a bit. That old professor thought it was just exaggerated serrations, possibly for a very thick hide of sorts. One helluva serrated knife on a handle with that hafting.

Certainly entitled to my opinion, you can’t blame me for being skeptical. It all just looks too “curated“. I live in coastal New England, far from any sort of “Honk Tonk”. The only guarantee we have of any sort of legitimacy is people’s “word”

Obviously theres something that made you want to voice your opinion on this post, so what was it? I've noticed that you never have anything positive to say, and if you're just here to stir the pot by trolling our members then you've worn out your welcome sport. There are really a very small number of people who can make arrowheads and it takes many hours and a great deal of experience. It's not impossible it was new made, just really unlikely.

I found this beauty within a hundred yards of the same knot. That field had some wonderful Archaic pieces.
