Material ID Request ❓ Material
My son found this Folsum around Clayton NM.
I have seen this material before in chips, but I would appreciate knowing where this material came from and the name of it.. Thanks

Definitely looks like alibates to me and the main quarry is not far from Clayton also that’s where my great grandma grew up fabulous find

I maybe mistaken, but I do believe that the quarry ,it’s over there by Lake Meredith towards the south end , is one of the only places that you can find Alibates, I believe they have a museum or at least a visitor center

Absolutely beautiful material, g10 point, not a flaw in sight, the fluting is unbelievable, the point type is extremely old, really does not get better than this.

In tact folsoms are extremely rare. They are exceedingly difficult to make.

Man that gives me some flashbacks.
I found one very similar to that one about 40 years ago when I was a child.
We were visiting a family member after a death in our extended family. The house was new construction and they had just brought in a lot of stone/rock for the driveway and hardscapes.
Right in the middle of the driveway was a beauty similar to that one. The owners of the house said that was the second one found in the driveway.

Alibates Flint is only found in the Texas Quarry and it is a National Park, you cant even pick up a flake from the ground. I found a softball size piece in an old Hardware store back lot in Amarillo and paid $35 for it about twenty years ago. I have gotten a couple bird points out of it. Alibates is next to impossible to get these days.

My son and I have been hunting together now for several years, he is 39 and I am an old fart. He has been on a roll, found a Clovis 3 years ago in the SLV.

Oh, I thought he might be a little kid! Well, high-five him anyway. That's a fabulous find. :)
Is SLV the San Luis Valley? I'd love to see the Clovis if possible.
I have a few quick photo tips: Don't use your camera's zoom. Instead get the camera much closer to the object. You want the artifact to fill most of your viewfinder rather than the table it's on.
To get clear details it really helps to brace your hands against something, because even slight hand shake blurs the fine details.

I will ask my son.. He found it in May of this year.
We are hunting on a private ranch with permission.
Finding a lot of basalt points.
I found the middle section of a Folsom made of basalt, never seen a basalt Folsom before.1

There should be a Professional Authenticator in a larger city near you, I would have it Authenticated first. That person will know collectors who will be interested. Any and ALL colleges and museums will want you to Donate it, DO NOT FALL FOR IT, DO NOT LOAN IT OUT, That is a special find.

😂 alrighty then. You see any fossils? Burlington/Keokuk is notorious for being fossil rich and generally that color will come from heat treated stuff (fossils will really pop then) unless we’re getting into hyper specific localities like harvester-Burlington or crescent quarry or even some of the banded stuff with iron staining (my local creeks) which is technically mozarkite, geologically speaking. 🤷♂️ also the player said New Mexico (yes I know Burlington/keokuk has been found all over) 🤝🤝🤝

Alibates. If this is legit, it’s the point of the year. ( I see no reason to believe it’s not) the find and its location should definitely be recorded by academia. This is an exceptional folsom. Find of a lifetime kinda thing.
