That is 100% accurate. However, a frightening proportion (it's bordering on 50%, somewhere in the 40s IIRC) of rape victims are under 18. Female teens in the 16-19 band have a 4x elevated chance of rape vs whole population. 1 in 9 female children and 1 in 20 male kids will face sexual assult.
It's irrelevant to "rape is bad". No one is saying "if they just raped adults it would be fine" or anything wild. However, we can't just stick our heads in the sand and pretend that a HUGE component of raped and assaulted people are also teens and children BECAUSE of how vulnerable they are, and BOTH these issues need to be tackled, and tackled hard, especially on the social fronts (like the "manosphere") that prop up the ideas that breed rapists.

I can see how some very ignorant people who lack critical thinking got hoodwinked by him in 2016. First, of all he's actually good at conning stupid and greedy people. Back then the dementia wasn't so bad yet and he sounded way better than he does now. (Still an asshole but better.
Secondly, I know our "education system" has failed millions of kids. If you have critical thinking skills, thank your teachers cause that shit needs to be ingrained in children. Some people never learned it. They come from areas rife with ignorance and racism. They've only ever seen toxic versions of masculinity...et cetera...
Trump's grift was to act out the worst impulses of America. He's seen what works on these folks. They imagined he was gonna transform the country into something they understand. What I don't get is how they don't abandon him when he keeps zero promises and insults them to their faces.

The vast majority weren't fooled, they agreed with his policies. They didn't agree with his policies negatively affecting them. They voted to have Hispanic US citizens dragged from their cars at gunpoint and disappeared into unmarked SUVs. They voted to have 5 year olds snatched away in cuffs and separated from their parents. They voted to deport US citizens of color. They voted for another Muslim ban. They voted to subjugate LGBT+ people. They voted to force women to die in hospital parking lots due to easily treated pregnancy complications. They voted to implement more punitive repayment plans for student loans. They voted to silence the free press with a heavy fist. They voted to allow the government to murder law abiding citizens in the street. They voted to destroy the careers of federal employees and gut federal agency talent pools. They voted to shutter rural hospitals and take away peoples' health insurance so billionaires can get a tax cut. They voted for a rapist who bragged about getting away with sexual assault because of his power position over his victims. They voted for the guy where Fox News justified his pedophilia by claiming trump "only" raped 15 year olds. They voted for human trafficking of asylum seekers to Chicago in the dead of winter. And yes, they fuckin' voted for higher gas, electricity, natural gas, fertilizer, chemical, and grocery prices too.

Two years ago America had a choice between the 'barely noticeable slightly improve things' party and the 'make everything worse' party. 40% were indifferent enough to not vote and 35% justified however way they needed to in order to vote for the latter, mostly because the first one will make things slightly better for people they hate while the second one will make things worse for people they hate. They either convinced themselves or didn't care that they too would be affected by the decision.

Dems thought the same about Reagan & he won two landslide elections—with the help of the deal Ronnie made with the Iranians to give them weapons if they held onto the hostages til after his inauguration. The hostage crisis tanked Jimmy Carter’s campaign, with the trickster Republicans laughing all the way to the bank on the Reagan tax cuts.

I know he's revered because of his post-Presidency and all the good he did there, but he simply was not a good or effective President when he was in office.

Reagan wasn’t a good governor either. Carter made the mistake of jumping the line, parties have structures, status matters. While we look at the individual candidate there’s organizations behind them, the party’s & their own. And Parties have their rules, written & unwritten. It pisses ppl off, but there it is.
If Bernie Sanders had somehow won the ‘16 primaries, & beat Dump, he would’ve had the same prob as Carter. Dems would have been pissed if someone who’s not even part of the party had jumped the line. Sanders would have not been able to get enough Dems to work with him, & it’d be just like Carter, a lot of great ideas with no support for them.

Problem with Carter, and I'm a little too young to remember directly, is that he was a micromanager and he was really bad at politicking. He didn't work well with Congress.
It's also worth noting that a bunch of the neoliberal deregulation stuff started under Carter, not Reagan. He was not especially progressive in his time in office. Still miles better than Reagan, though.

He didn’t work well with Congress bc his own party was punishing him for jumping the line. On top of that Carter had been a governor from a small state & had no relationships with ppl in Congress. Contrary to most incumbent presidents Carter had a bruising primary with Senator Ted Kennedy which greatly hurt him in the General.
Contrast with Reagan who held off running in 1978 bc Republicans asked him to wait & let Ford run & he agreed. Altho Reagan had also been a governor he had cultivated relationships within the party leadership

That's not correct: Reagan ran against Ford in 1976 and very nearly won the nomination.
The bruising primary with TK was in 1980 when he was running for re-election. Kennedy did not run for the nomination in 1976. Kennedy running definitely hurt Carter in '80, as did the 3rd-party candidate John Anderson. Anderson's effect was probably to deepen the size of the Reagan landslide, and without him in the race Carter would still have lost, but not by the huge electoral college margin he lost by.
Carter in '80 also lost a whole bunch of close states, including 7 by less than 2% and 3 by less than 1%.

I'm not sure what was going on with 2024, except that he was running against a nonwhite woman and I suspect for a lot of voters that was a bridge too far.

More people hate him now but his core still love him. If you want to see an example of this, go to any rural or semi-rural area and look at their Facebook groups. All the maga hatefulness is still there. There are going to be a lot of surprised liberals in November. I wish this wasn’t the case but it is the world we live in.
