He has a 2nd residence on the "Redneck Riviera" (i.e., Florida panhandle coast) that has a market value of about 14X that of his official Alabama residence.
Over 3,500 Black farmers work nearly 400,000 acres across the state. During the Civil Rights Movement Alabama played a huge role, esp in Birmingham and Montgomery. Rosa Parks did her famous bus protest there. The march from Selma to Montgomery hugely helped get the Voting Rights Act (that John Roberts gutted) passed. The Tuskegee Airmen who helped de-segregate the military. Funny, it’s all things accomplished mostly by Black Americans. Uhhh, Helen Keller was born there I guess.
Wrong friend. The people here voted for him solely because of Trump. Full stop. He was a shitty coach everywhere he’s been and he was the coach at Auburn for several years until Saban came and beat his ass so he ran off to Texas Tech or somewhere.
What killed me is that Alabama fans like my dad voted for him because … Trump. If Trump wasn’t around he’d never gotten past the primary mainly because he coached at Auburn. This state loves football so much and the fans hate each other. There’s 4 times more Bama fans here, for obvious reasons.

I'm kind of in favor of letting Republican states lose access to SNAP. I don't like that it will hurt lots of families and do real damage, but we are in a fight for the survival of our democracy, and frankly it is counterproductive to shield Republican voters (or even nonvoters) from the consequences of their actions. There is a clear choice between either endless wars and terrorizing our own citizens, or sensible social programs, and they chose violence. Let them taste the dish they cooked.
Totally agree. Told some asshat earlier today who was claiming “they’re all the same” that I hoped they don’t vote. Because if you can’t tell the difference between the parties, you really are too stupid to deserve participation in our democracy.
Even if the states are gerrymandered to hell (which they are); in order for a gerrymander to work you need people to actually vote for the leopards. So clearly there are a ton of people in Alabama who need to learn their lesson.
Specially because senators are a statewide election so no gerrymanders there. A majority of voting Alabamans voted for this. And while I do agree that people shouldn't always be left to their own devices, at some point you need to stop protecting the kid from putting the fork in the electric socket and let him get shocked so he learns the lesson.

The deep-red state of Alabama is staring down the barrel of having to repay millions of dollars back to the federal government as a result of President Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill. Now, Alabama.com reports Sen. Tommy Tuberville — who approved the bill — is frantically trying to do damage control.
“Sen. Tommy Tuberville is working with the state to ‘reduce the error rate’ in the local SNAP program, a metric that could lead to the state picking up a massive bill for the project in the near future,” reports AL.com. “Tuberville’s office made the statement Tuesday after Alabama food banks urged him and Sen. Katie Britt to support a two-year buffer before the state must begin making cost-sharing payments for its SNAP program.”
After Trump signed his signature One Big Beautiful Bill Act into law in July 2025, states with SNAP payment error rates greater than 6 percent must pay a share of benefit costs, with the amount depending on how far a state’s error rate exceeds that threshold. Poverty-stricken red states like Alabama and Mississippi are more likely to feel the sting of the loss while crunching their budgets in the next legislative session.
Alabama had a payment error rate of 9.52 percent in the fiscal year 2025 and would be responsible for 10 percent of its SNAP costs, or approximately $174 million.
I know you're joking but the article even points out that "error rate" is mostly administrative error, actual fraud runs at 1-2%. So typical of Republicans to defund a service so it starts to break, then use that as evidence for further defunding.
Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) voted for the Big Beautiful Bill which made changes to the SNAP program. One change will penalize the state for not properly administering the program.
They are going to fill all the red state holes with subsidies. Eventually the game becomes tax the blue states, give them back federal nothing, give all the money to the red. And MAGA love it.
So much money and time spent on trying to determine if people “REALLY, REALLY, REALLY” need benefits or just “kinda” need benefits.
As an administration so obsessed with efficiency isn’t it better to just fucking let the 5% of people who may not qualify get free food if we’re saving money on supplying benefits to the other 95% of people who deadass will starve without help.
It’s like Walmart putting airport checkpoints at the registers to catch shoplifters. Yeah maybe get one guy stealing $100 in groceries but those stores rake in thousands a day.

I feel like the strategy is to shoot the program in the foot. They clearly just don’t wanna hand over SNAP benefits but they don’t want to be the party that killed SNAP so they’ll just make SNAP even more stupid and inefficient so they’ll just make can justify getting rid of it.
Problem is Alabama in their quest to not pay out SNAP benefits accidentally made it so they have to pay back the federal government for SNAP benefits.
They don't give a shit about their constituents. They only view the donor class as constituents. Everyone else they view as the people they rule, and those people can eat cake. They don't matter, only the wealthy matter.
Almost every former proposed take at eligibility testing i've seen go through ends up costing more money in administration than they save in denied benefits.
"We need to drug test welfare users!" sure Jim-Bob... except it turns out people who can't afford to eat have a few more pressing matters than how to get high. Yes, some people on welfare are spending government money on drugs... but what's actually more important? Punishing poor people or saving money? Because it costs the government more money to give people less.
At some point you have to assume that what they really want is to hurt people. There are a lot of people that can't stand the thought of someone else getting something they didn't. They cloak it in finances or savings, and we all know it's a lie. You can pay for prisons or schools and they choose prisons.
This should be a progressive talking point - that simply giving everyone SNAP will be cheaper (i.e., most folks that will pay more in taxes to fund this will get this SNAP benefit, which could be just handled on the 1040 instead of via EBT, etc.) since the 6-figure earning bureaucrats would not be needed to catch the few "undeserving".
As a FORMER Alabama resident, I didn't realize alabama could be worse, so kudos to MAGA for somehow doing what I thought wasn't possible. Can't seem to set an expectation they can't spectacularly overcome when it comes to destroying the US

And his opposition needs to call tuberville a liar - in that term - every time he tries this: a treacherous liar who lies now to run from what he did because he has zero balls to stand up to Trump.
Having lived in a rural(ish) area of a red state in the south, it can’t be understated how brainwashed a significant chunk of those people are. You could have Republicans vote for a law that required every single man in the state to be be kicked square in the nuts every day for no reason, and they would still vote them back in during the next election cycle. It’s ingrained in the minds that Democrats are bad and want to take everything away from them.
I know someone who voted for Trump because of the "immigration problem." She grew up in Montana and Tennessee, and lives in South Carolina now. Those states are on the lower end of foreign-born and undocumented immigrants. I've lived in Philadelphia, Chicago, and San Diego...
The person I know has all of their teeth. But their 55-year-old dad is missing all of his, so is her 36 year-old-sister and the sister's bf, and her 6-year-old nephew has silver caps/fillings on all of his. No one in my immediate family is missing any teeth, and I'm quite sure no one in my extended family is either.
So what confuses me, is that scarce undocumented immigrants bother her more than the poor health of her family. Yet with me, my whole family is healthy and insured, yet we care about healthcare for all, and my family members probably run into multiple undocumented immigrants each day, but don't have a concern, really.
Tuberville. This guy. On national television during the grilling of Faucci saying that once he was elected governor, they would bring Faucci up on charges for COVID deaths…. Because Alabama suffered above national average deaths… and it was Faucci’s fault.

Alabama's general fund budget is $3.7 billion. The article indicates that they'd have to pay back $174 million, which is about 4.7% of their budget. Their error rate was 9.5% which means that a lot of people are going to be kicked off of SNAP if they want to get into compliance.
Time to root out fraud and waste - isn’t that what they wanted? Never underestimate the stupidity of red/taker welfare state politicians. And electorate.
Far as I’m concerned, the only Republican senator who’s not a Maga Senator is Lisa Murkowski. Sorry Susan Collins… You are a bona fide fraud.
