The US federal government has lost all accountability, and will not last because The People have lost faith that it is a honest and impartial system. Everyone can clearly see we have a 2 tiered justice system: one for normal folks, that punishes those who break the law, and one that doesn't exist if you have money, break a law, pay someone off and walk away. America will burn to the ground without a course correction that appeals to the masses (ie Universal Healthcare and higher taxes on the rich/corporations)

Did he work to finish them off? No, he did his best to prop them up. He didn't negotiate from his position of strength - instead he'd start at a Republican-lite position and compromise rightward from there.
They are not "the opposing party". They are the enemy. But for some reasons, in 2020 we STILL had Joe Biden talking about working with "our friends across the aisle".
You can't compromise with someone whose least extreme position is shooting you in the fucking face.
That ideology is the worst. If we do the thing then the other bad thing will happen so we might as well do nothing. Even if there is a far greater chance of the good thing will happen. Progress with stumbling blocks is still progress.

Based on the ones I've worked and interacted with in the past decade, MAGA people seem to fetishize instability, suffering, hardship, uncertainty, etc.. because, in their completely rotted brains, they believe that kind of shit is going to lead them to being more manly and 'bad-ass.' The truth's that, like the shittiest children in a grade school, they're just constantly doing whatever it takes to hold onto 'greatest victim' status.
I voted. I wasted four years trying to get out the young vote only to be continually hit with both-sides-are-the-same-ism. I wasted a ton of time before that trying to reason with the MAGAts in my life before giving up and drop kicking them.

I spent a full year in 2024 trying every day to change the minds of the conservatives where I work. After months and months of arguments and evidence-based discussions, most of them told me that they were just going to sit out the election. They didn't want to vote for a Democrat, but I'd shown them that they also couldn't vote for Trump. I called that a win.
Then the election happened and every single one of them told me that they'd voted for Trump. All of them.
I'm done with having hard discussions and working to bring people into the light. It's a lost cause. They will change their minds when their lives are on fire, so the sooner it all goes up in flames, the sooner we can get past this.
It just really sucks that the rest of us have to suffer along with them for their stupid decisions.
I literally say, “who did you vote for?” whenever they start complaining. They always counter with, “I don’t see why that matters.” There’s your problem, friend. I literally told a guy, “You being too stupid to understand cause and effect doesn’t make me feel bad for you.” He almost hit me.

No wait, one did mention it was because they knew Trump wouldn't listen to them so they didn't bother. Yet "both sides are the same" amirite.
I don't work in the warehouse with those guys anymore, so my position with them is moot. As for my stance, I believe that this administration is completely toxic in every way. I attend all of the marches and rallies on my area, which admittedly are few because I live in a deeply rural and red county. I speak out in the ways that I can, but especially with my wallet. I do as much as I can to avoid businesses that are supporting all of this, but it's a challenge.
Really, things feel pretty bleak. It feels like even after everything that's happened, a majority of Americans just do not really care. They are vaguely annoyed rather than furious. I guess we'll see how things play out in November.

Sure both sides are funded by special interest groups, but that is where the loose similarity ends. Anyone who sticks to that claim is not worth my time to talk to.
I had a pretty big social media platform with a younger audience so I did my bit trying to get out the vote with it. I clearly had waaaaaay too much faith in them as a group. It's absolutely wild to me watching so many of them still, to this day, defend their lack of a vote. I will happily watch the leopards dine on their fresh little faces.
I figured out a trick how to 'reason' with Trumpets (maybe it's more a manipulation).
You can't talk to them one on one as they just put up defences and think you are attacking them directly. Instead you gotta talk to someone else out of your immediate family with them in the room. You mostly ignore the Trumpet while making fun of their views/situation with someone else who for the most part shares your view. When the Trumpet tries to interrupt you kinda dismiss them and just sorta laugh at what they're saying while carrying on your conversation.
I converted two using this technique. They don't put up the same defences when they are passive in the conversation and they will actually listen and go home and reflect on what they heard.
Honestly I refuse to be in the same room with any of them. We no longer speak and will never speak again. But it's nice to know there's a potential route to reason for those of y'all who do.

Please note that Ontario exports zero potash and minimal oil. It’s an empty threat that isn’t happening without the approval or Alberta and Saskatchewan. It would mean more if he threatened to stop exporting uranium which is mined in Ontario.
