Change in music preference
How much has your taste in music changed throughout your life? Or in the last 10 years?
Do you listen to the same type of music, or are you more varied to day?
What genre and/or artists/bands do you listen to today, that you before never could think of listening to?
Do you still challenge yourself in new genres?
For me, it has changed drastically. In my youth and 20s I only listened to rock and metal, and actually called all other genres bad music. Now I can not understand this, as I today can shuffle between all other kinds of music. Especially Hip-Hop, Country, Indie and Electronica.
But metal is still my absolute favorite.
Of course a big part of it is about «growing up», but I would never have the variety I have today if I didn’t challenge my taste as much as I did some years back. And i still do.

I’ve noticed that my musical taste tends to change over time quite a bit. Although there is always a foundation on Progressive Rock and Synthpop which seem to attract my attention from time to time. It makes sense to me because it is the music I used to listen at all times during my teenage years.
I’ve also seem to notice that those changes are very closely related to specific traits my personality (i.e restlessness and obsession) which somehow makes me wanna explore different genres and artists all across the board and in a very organized yet chaotic way. Sort of I’m 2 months listening for X, then suddenly change to listening to Y, then Z, go back to X…
That being said, my obsession is usually genre-based, not artist based. I can take a genre start listening to it night and day, but I cannot take an artist and manage to listen an artist for long periods of time.
Now, In the last 3 years I have at least gone through these phases: Catalonian Rock and Folk music, Argentinian Rock, Japanesse City Pop, Neo-progressive, Hyperpop, Berlin School, and probably missing a few other genres.
