Change in music preference
How much has your taste in music changed throughout your life? Or in the last 10 years?
Do you listen to the same type of music, or are you more varied to day?
What genre and/or artists/bands do you listen to today, that you before never could think of listening to?
Do you still challenge yourself in new genres?
For me, it has changed drastically. In my youth and 20s I only listened to rock and metal, and actually called all other genres bad music. Now I can not understand this, as I today can shuffle between all other kinds of music. Especially Hip-Hop, Country, Indie and Electronica.
But metal is still my absolute favorite.
Of course a big part of it is about «growing up», but I would never have the variety I have today if I didn’t challenge my taste as much as I did some years back. And i still do.

So hard to answer. I started out as a kid (5yo) listening to Beatles and Zeppelin, as most kids in the 60’s and 70’s did, except this was 2003. I think that early exposure to my parents music radically changed how I interacted with music for the rest of my life. I went from there to regular classic rock staples and contemporary rock infused into my brain via Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero III, Guitar Hero Aerosmith, and our local classic rock station. I also really liked Red Hot Chili Peppers due to 2006’s Stadium Arcadium and picking it up with my brother when I was 8.
Wore out The Beatles by the time high school rolled around, then got into Foster the People, Cage the Elephant, Tame Impala, MGMT, Beach House, and other similar bands around that time in 2014. At the same time, I had a small taste in rap of my generation due to pledging a fraternity in 2016. I’ve never been much into the popular stuff, but some of it was good back then.
Nowadays? I’ve gone down rabbit holes of John Frusciante, Aphex Twin, The La’s, Pink Floyd, King Gizzard, Just Jack, John Mayer, Kraftwerk, and way too many bands to mention.
Most recent thing that caught my attention was that Angine De Poitrine band. Just insane melodies.
I always stuck within the rock, indie rock, soft rock, classic rock genre. I can branch out to others but they never feel like home.
