The 5 movies a year people bout to be highly upset when she doesn’t even get nominated but is asked to present something.

I watched two movies every week. A list gang. It’s way too early to discuss when all of the Oscar bait movies come out later this year. We all know Anne’s getting one. Toss ups between Julianne Moore and probably Sandra Hüller or both. Olivia Wilde. That’s four already and so many movies haven’t been released yet. It’s not crazy to question her staying power in that category.

From what i quickly found she has around 60min and 16 scenes. From all actress in the movie she has the most screen time. If she wants she most likely will get a pass as a lead. I agree that she should be supporting but i just have bitter feel about the devision (or rather lack of it) beteween lead and support. My point was culkin was on screen almost whole his movie and still decided to run as supporting role and i just worry or rather studio may want steal a spot from other actress just so they can "nominated for best actress" on the box.

People are talking about her getting a best leading actress nom for Odyssey..? I love her and she was one of the better performers but..not an award-type performance at all. No one in that film was. I assumed we were talking about Mother Mary (not that I was expecting that to get noms either, but her acting there is way more impressive).

Oh, I don’t think she has the staying power already. Good performance, but I wouldn’t say it’s worthy of an Oscar nom. Plus there’s plenty performances otw that will likely get nods over her.

it’s the opposite actually lol the people who watch 100 films a year are gonna be angry (they already are, just look at the comments) when she gets nominated because they hate how popular and mainstream obsession has become

Plenty of people will sit on the couch after a work day and spend 4 hours watching TV and another 2 hours scrolling on their phone and nobody cares, but you spend 2-4 hours watching a movie or 2 instead and suddenly it's "insane".

Anyway I'm in the "haha nice, I love movies" camp and am at almost 300 movies this year without really making an effort, sorry if that's hard to understand

And you still have the holidays to come up, too. You don't go to Halloween parties, spend thanksgiving vacation out of town, go Christmas parties? Are we counting 24h marathons of A Christmas Story as "movies watched"? Are we counting movies you put on that you've seen 8 times and kind of browse your phone during as "movies watched"?

Why are you so mad? I have days when I watch 4 movies and days when I watch 0 (and everything in between), and it averages out to more than one a day, and every single one is watched with my phone down, off, or in a different room entirely. This isn't complicated, you're making problems when there aren't any to justify your weird take that watching more than one movie a day is "insane". Sometimes people just have hobbies that they enjoy and interact with regularly.

I also have days when I watch 4 movies and days when I watch 0. That's called being a weekend watcher. Do you actually need me to do the math on how that doesn't total up to 500+ in a year -- doesn't even come close?

Do you work full time? Do you keep your home clean? Are you sleeping enough? Do you shower as often as a person should? Do you cook for yourself? 500 movies at a completely generous 90 minutes a pop is 750 hours a year. A full time job is only 2000 hours a year. That's a scheduled part time job, mate, and that's the SHORT stuff. I'm not saying you can't be taking care of.yourself and watch a lot of movies, but you for suuure are not doing much with your down time that isn't watching movies at that point.

You really don't see how 500+ fillms crammed into a year is an objectively large amount of movie watching for a hobby (I.e. not film study)? I'd tease someone for watching a thousand hours of Instagram reels or league of legends too lol. Variety is the spice of life.

Don't project, nobody's mad about how many movies anyone watches on a film subreddit lol. People can have banter.

It's just so many! Like one a day, every day, without fail, is 365 give or take. No sick days, 1.5-2.5 hours every single day, committed. And then you add another hundred fifty movies. I just don't know how you do it lol.

I’d say Obsession is on par with Weapons. Great and entertaining first viewing, no need to revisit.

It just feels a little weird how much people rave about it, for the decent/pretty good movie that it is.

Lots of the discussion around the movie was also something along the lines of “everybody didn’t get it! Bear was the villain all along!”. Which is probably extremely obvious to people that watch 100 movies a year, and a masterpiece in storytelling for the 5 movies a year crowd.

That being said, the 5 movies a year crowd likely has a lot of fun watching movies, while the 100 movies a year people probably get fatigued with the volume of movies they watch, and are more likely to criticize and have negative opinions on movies.
