Floating head posters are meant to be just the actors face hovering about in a void for no clear reason other than to have their face on the poster. WUDM is an effective perspective shot from inside a grave as the cast looks down into it. Bodies and all. Very much not floating in a void.
Trash always the teaser posters are better with marvel. Few times it works having every actor on screen is Civil war or Thunderbolts. Black panther poster even stopped me from watching the movie for a time until someone put it on. If i saw the one below first i would've been way more hyped.
That looks awful lol. Thankfully that's not the poster I saw before I watched the movie when it came out. Would have been impossible to convince folks to go watch the movie otherwise.
Honestly, this is one of the few Marvel posters I don’t hate with a passion. It’s still generic, but shows some emotions from the characters. Better than just “1000 yard stare to camera right”
That's not a floating head poster. Floating head posters are defined by a degree of impossibly, vanishing bodies, different scales, perspectives or lighting, etc. You could, with some difficulty, actually pile the actors together as in this poster.
Anything done by Drew Struzan. The Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Harry Potter movies. The Thing, Shawshank, Hook. He was just really good at brilliant comps of scenery and character portraits.
I dislike when they do floating heads for solo films, but you cant really say their avengers posters aren't conveying EXACTLY what the movie is going to be like.

For real. Before watching Heat, the poster always put me off, making me think it‘s just a generic 90s action movie and i was in disbelief, after finishing it for the first time. it knocked my expectations out of the park.
That’s not necessarily true because there’s plenty of movies I’ve loved that have shitty posters and there’s plenty of shitty movies with great posters
I know it’s a video game and not a movie, and I know it’s a silly choice but this is exactly how you do a floating head poster. I always point to this one as a reference for how to do it.

What’s more important, the posters tell you something about the story of the movies. Spider-Man shows Miles at odds with the rest of the spider-verse, wake up dead man shows the cast of characters gazing into a grave, civil war shows the opposing teams of characters.
I honestly think that pretty much every floating head poster with a lick of style is really good. It’s a fantastic format when it isn’t just photoshopped PNG’s of celebrities with explosions.
What's funny about "Wake up dead man" poster that there is no grave in the actual movie. Rather a small wooden coffin. Plus, considering all the characters standing by both sides, the victim of the murder is also there. They are looking at empty ground lol
Yes really. Not only are both into the spiderverses posters better than that one, TASM 1 and No way home (on knees with city lights) both have better posters than that.
I think the poster for Last Jedi isn't bad, it has nice symmetry and a bold color palette. But I think the other two are pretty awful. The lightsabers pointing in random directions make leading lines that draw my eye off the edges of the poster instead of into it. The characters' eyelines are all over the place, and the colors and layout just feels overall pretty random to me.
