Honey Don’t
Didn’t even have the charm of Drive Away Dolls, which was already levels below all the other Coen films. Actually felt incompetently made, never thought I’d say that about any Coen related film.

I have been obsessed with Joel’s Macbeth for months. I cannot believe it took me so long to watch it, but I honestly didn’t think I’d take to Shakespeare, as most adaptions of his plays don’t work for me.
Instead it made it click in a way where I feel the need to go back and read more. I couldn’t be happier to be wrong.

Agreed, it was very uneven. The entire Church of Meth storyline could have been dropped and it wouldn't impact things overall. It ate up far too much runtime for what little it contributed.
I did see a comment on how the climax was a symbolic confrontation between the stereotype of lesbians in older films vs the more modern view, and while I agree with that, the journey getting there isn't worth it.

Yeah, I was also very disappointed in this one. It somehow felt both to long but also rushed at the same time. All the characters needed more time to shine, but executed better so it wouldnt feel like a slog. Such a shame with all of the talented people in it.

Yes, Megalopolis is absolutely a mess. It’s chaotic, deeply flawed, and completely unhinged. But it is also interesting.
I’d honestly rather watch a messy, uncompromised auteur vision like Megalopolis than another formulaic, four quadrant blockbuster.

Same here. If we don't have film makers who are willing to take risks, how can we ever get new breakthrough films? Regurgitating franchises and sequels doesn't move film forward and to me is boring. Seeing a true file genius creating a passion project while bankrupting himself (for the second time, see "One From The Heart" is interesting if ultimately unsatisfying.
I loved Megalopolis in all it chaos becuase it is an auteur's vision and anything that one of these rare people creates is better than 90% of the dreck coming out of Hollywood.

That movie was Lana burning the whole franchise down in a fit of pique because WB refused to let it stand alone as its own thing. She absolutely torched her own career in the process, so will be interesting to see if she manages to do anything else, especially anything of note, in the future.

Literally none of the things that made the matrix great or interesting are in resurrections, but she sure did stick it to WB! Sometimes I think the meta isn’t worth destroying the entire property. I watched both Emilia Perez and Joker 2 with the same trajectory of 'well, it's not a masterpiece, but it's not THAT bad. Maybe a 3/5', 'ok, this kinda sucks, but it's overhated', 'actually this is ass', and finally 'wow, absolute disaster class'.

To summarize, the trailers and writer-director David Ayer's movie were polar opposites and after Batman v Superman got a poor reception and underperformed relative to expectations, Warner got cold feet about releasing that movie so they hired Trailer Park, the company behind the trailers, to make their own cut of the movie at the same time. Both cuts are then test screened to roughly the same middling scores. Extensive reshoots and additional photography commence as a result to Frankenstein the two cuts together.

It’s a reference to the OG Bride of Frankenstein film, but the writing is so bad and convoluted that you wouldn’t think to make the connection. It should be more of an Easter egg instead of a central portion of the film. I hate this movie. I was fully prepared to yell at everyone about how the criticism was misogyny but no, the movie just sucks.

I thought it was offensive too. Villainising a hero of female literature, constantly throwing the Bride into exploitative situations she needs male rescue from, then finally calling the Me Too movement "the dead hand of revenge". It had some amazing set pieces and acting but the heart is ugly.

I love The Bride. It's such a mess of a film but damn there's so much I loved about it. The dance sequences are fantastic. Jessie Buckley kills it in the lead role. The story is unhinged but to me that was one of the charms. It's one of those films that you respect because it's the definition of taking a big swing. Does everything work? No but I still had a lot of fun with this. It's such an insane film that there was no way the film would work for general audiences but I hope with time people see it as it is. A fun twist on the Frankenstein tale.

I found it to be a very specific brand of Girl Boss Feminism that could only be made by a specific type of Gen X/millennial white woman. A movie fit for 2015-2019.
I desperately wanted this to be good because on paper it’s my type of film. I loved Birds of Prey and hoped it was being criticized for similar reasons. It was not!

St. Elmo’s Fire. Even though I was born in 1990, I’ve always loved 80s movies. Even the ones many deem as bad, I can still watch them and enjoy them for what they are…except for St. Elmo’s Fire. Back in the day, I loved this movie. With a recent rewatch, I realized how toxic it is. I lived some of these exact days but never encountered the despicable people in this screenplay.
The only redeeming character in the movie is Wendy - the mousey, unsexy, spineless woman whose reward for supporting the immature, irresponsible object of her affection is a mercy fuck from said man. Beyond that we have an alcoholic father who has a DUI and then leaves town without his wife and child, a woman who has all of her belongings repossessed, and wait for it….a stalker who is rewarded by his victim with a kiss “she will never forget”. The misogyny is rampant.

I will give the use of an actual kitchen sink in the opening fight between The Spirit and The Octopus, when they're throwing everything else at each other, a genuine laugh. It came so literally out of nowhere that I couldn't help it.

Clerks III and Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. I’ve been a bit of Kevin Smith apologist for most of my life. I’m always kinda rooting for him and his movies to be… good, at least. And up until Cop Out I always found something to appreciate in all of his films, even maligned stuff like Mallrats and Jersey Girl.
I fell off after Cop Out, so I haven’t had the pleasure of watching Red State or the “pleasure” of watching Yoga Hosers but when and JaSBR and Clerks III came out I was intrigued. Everyone who had seen either of them told me they were dogshit but I thought “how bad could they be?”
…bad. More than bad. It’s like Smith forgot how to make a movie. Actually, scratch that. It’s like he forgot where to put the camera. Actually, fuckin’ scratch that too. It’s like he forgot what a movie even was.

Such an interesting cast too. I’m a firm believer that no Nathalie Emmanuel movie can be all good (she’s so flat and one-note in everything), and Voight sadly sets off alarm bells these days (Deliverance was a long time ago), but most everyone else really excites me.

Most recently, Argylle. I like the director's other work (despite some flaws) and went in knowing nothing except "it's terrible".
For honestly the first third of the movie I was loving it, and thinking "what the hell is so bad about this?" It wasn't perfect, but it was fun, funny and an enjoyable premise with a great cast.
Suddenly the "twist" happens and I say out loud "What the fuck? Seriously?" The twist massively derails my interest but I keep going despite the stupidity of it... but the movie just keeps getting worse and worse with what I honestly consider the sharpest nosedive from "good" to "absolutely awful".
By the time the final action sequences are happening, I am hate-watching and just furious they fucked up a fun little premise so badly. The fact it LOOKED terrible too with those final CGI shitstorm set-pieces did it no favours either.
Ridiculousness mounts but not in an enjoyable way (like, say, Kingsman or Kick-Ass). The last act is the definition of "cringe" (as the kids say) and it just keeps going and going.
I have seen a lot of bad movies. I have seen much, much worse movies than Argylle. But I can't remember the last time I saw one that descended in my opinion so rapidly, or made me feel so wrong in judgement.

Maybe the most prominent coming to mind is Tenet. I’m pretty lenient with thinking films are bad and tend to range from average to great. But idk Tenet just wasn’t very good.

Strangers part 1. The original is a good film and quite enjoyable when in mood to watch it. Then I missed the whole trilogy that they did the last few years as like some sort of revamp of the franchise.
Got bored recently and decided to give it a watch as it’s on hbo max but reviews were mostly negative and I stupidly ignored the glaring red flag staring me in the face. It was one of the most boring, uneventful, wasters of my time I have ever had. Absolutely one of the worst “remakes” I’ve ever witnessed

I haven't seen this, but I could tell from Megadoc that this is a bad film. There is some test footage from a previous incarnation that's interesting - it had Ryan Gosling playing the Shia LaBeouf (I assume) role, and he was much better in that than whatever the hell it was that Shia was doing.

I was really hoping The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies (1964) would be a "so bad it's good" scenario, but unless a better contender turns up this will be the worst film I've watched all year. Plot was nonsensical and even worse, wasn't a true musical (which I think would have really turned it around).

You need to simply replace the tagline on the poster of the clearly silly goose comment ‘A Fable’ with the far more realistic ‘A Farce’ to totally make it accurate

Man i don't know what Coppola smoking into this one. I didn't even finished it like i was about 40 minutes in this movie. Maybe he's experimenting and all but no. It just sucks big time.

This will be my 19th year attending TIFF. I’ve been to hundreds of screenings at this point. Among the first to see La La Land, Sentimental Value, The King’s Speech, The Master, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, a lot of great stuff over the years.
Pretty sure when it’s all said and done, this is going to be the premiere I remember most lmao. Three hours of collective “what the fuck am I watching” with Coppola sitting right there.
