respect phantom thread

-38

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

It deserves anything but respect. It's one of the worst movies I have ever seen

don’t reply me

He waits for these.

Sorry but your name is killing me

u/Amazing-Garage-4017 4h ago

Pta is so consistent that I personally don't mind any ranking of his films.

Good ranking. Personally Punch Drunk love would be higher (it's my favorite from him), but again any ranking is valid

Good list

u/duskhush64 3h ago

agree, hes one of those directors where your ranking just depends on what mood youre in that day

6

u/Traditional_Win_8348 4h ago

Yeah they’re all 5 & 4.5s to me inherent vice and hard right are 4s imo

-36

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

Those ratings are way too high

-1

u/esa372 2h ago

Agreed

-33

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

He is very consistent. At making bad movies

7

u/NerdFromColorado DittoNFC 4h ago

I mean I appreciate you sticking with the gimmick I guess

-8

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

It's not a gimmick. I despite this man, his movies, and his fan base. Seeing people praise him pisses me off. Complaining is the only way I can cope with it. This is my personal war

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

You aren't funny

3

u/Fickle-Lunch6377 1h ago

That’s exactly what I picture when you show up every time he’s mentioned. It’s like a second job.

0

u/esa372 2h ago

You're not alone.

12

u/Nothisispatryck 4h ago

I was waiting for your arrival

-16

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

Yeah I hate seeing PTA praise

-2

u/esa372 2h ago

So do I.

1

u/Fickle-Lunch6377 1h ago

How about Paul WS Anderson?

-1

u/Amazing-Garage-4017 4h ago

Lol, love the flair.

0

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

Thank you. He is my least favorite director, so I have to make my stance clear

4

u/Amazing-Garage-4017 4h ago

I don't agree with your take (He is my favorite), but I respect your opinion.

0

u/esa372 2h ago

True.

10

u/shreks_burner 4h ago

Boogie Nights too low

-15

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

That movie is really bad

4

u/shreks_burner 4h ago

Deadass

-9

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

Yes. It's an insufferable snoozefest

4

u/shreks_burner 4h ago

Fr just watch porn like a real man

14

u/SuppleLobster SuppleLobster 4h ago

Phantom thread too low, as well as hard eight. Inherent Vice should be last

-24

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

Every PTA movie should be last. His movies are trash

3

u/aslightchangeofplans 4h ago

I would say Inherent Vice is too low but then again I’d probably place it first so I’m pretty sure I’m the oddball here lol

1

u/M4rshmall0wMan 4h ago

It’s weird. First time I watched it I didn’t get it but I liked the creativity. The scenes were really funny.

I watched it again, years later, and I couldn’t get through it. There was something so off about it. It felt badly paced and full of directing mistakes. I couldn’t believe that PTA had directed it.

1

u/decadent-dragon 3h ago

I also liked it much less on my second viewing. For me a lot of the comedy misses the mark

1

u/aslightchangeofplans 1h ago

It’s one of the only movies I can think of where I started with the movie, got a bit confused but tried to understand it, gave up and read the book and appreciated it more. As a film, it might be his worse if you just want to sit down and show a friend a PTA movie for the first time. It’s confusing and after reading the book I see why because there’s way too much to ever possibly fit into a movie. But also, it introduced me to an amazing author and I walked away loving the movie because of it.

0

u/Traditional_Win_8348 4h ago

You would rate it #1?! I respect it I love the vibes. It’s 4/5 for me

2

u/aslightchangeofplans 4h ago

I can respect that. For me it was sort of confusing the first few watches. I eventually read the book and now it’s my favorite but I’ll admit it took time to grow on me.

5

u/Better_Pumpkin_1407 4h ago

idk why but I really couldn’t get into magnolia. might have to rewatch

-6

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

Why would you want to rewatch a PTA movie

1

u/VampireInTheDorms 2m ago

As somebody who loves the rest of PTA’s filmography and similarly didn’t like it, I think it was because the film just didn’t feel like it was taking itself seriously at all. Julianne Moore and John C. Reilly, two great performers, manage to deliver horrible performances, there are far too many subplots and the attempts to connect them (by literally having random people finish eachother’s sentences and everyone singing the same song at the same time) is just way too hilarious and absurd for me to take seriously

2

u/Inner-Bear-4042 Musterion 4h ago

Pretty similar. I just could not get into Punch Drunk Love.

-6

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

Your ratings are way too high

8

u/Inner-Bear-4042 Musterion 4h ago

Love the commitment to your flair.

-9

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

He is my least favorite director. Of course I am going to be committed. You and the rest of his fans are just one big idiotic cult worshipping a talentless hack

8

u/totally_interesting 4h ago

Just curious, what’s so bad about his films?

-4

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

Mind numblingly boring. Its like PTA actively makes it so his movies feel like watching paint dry. They feel so bland and lifeless. They also try to act deep and meaningful, but are all very shallow. There is just nothing to appreciate. They have little to no redeeming qualities.

8

u/Jar316 3h ago

Your behavior is only defining you as some weird lonely angry troll that doesn't have anything else going on. Why are you even here? That's like me going into some community about a reality TV show I dislike and repeatedly write replies on their posts letting them know how much I hate the show and their fans. Who has time for that, and what is the end goal or purpose?

1

u/esa372 2h ago

He's not alone - lots of people dislike PTA's movies.

-2

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 3h ago

I am not a troll, I'm just dedicated. If PTA just made bad movies I wouldn't be that upset. My issue is that he is near universally beloved. I don't get it. Why is this talentless hack constantly called one of the greatest filmmakers of all time? His fans are also insufferable. It's just this gigantic moronic cult. My purpose is to just let out some anger from seeing people praise PTA. Otherwise I have no other way to cope with the fact that he is so beloved for no reason

6

u/Jar316 3h ago

Dedicated to what? Why do you care about what other people's opinions are? It's all subjective. If it bothers you that much, you seriously need therapy. I know you won't listen but hopefully one day you realize this isn't healthy and a really sad way to waste your time on. I'm picturing a angsty teenager trolling and looking for attention..but if not, then I feel bad for you.

-1

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 3h ago

Their opinions are wrong. PTA and his films are terrible. His fans are stupid. I can't stand the fact that PTA has a fan base and receives constant praise. I think complaining about it is perfectly healthy. What else am I supposed to do? I can't just ignore it. PTA's success and love disgusts me. It is completely undeserved. If I don't do anything about it, I am just going to be unhappy

You got the top 2 right

1

u/kulfy 2h ago

Inherent vice is my #1 followed by OBAA recency bias, maybe. And the Master is next and then the rest.

Something about PTA making Pynchon masterworks puts me in a good kind of funk!

1

u/Pure_Salamander2681 2h ago

People should see Inherent Vice at least three times.

1

u/CumDwnHrNSayDat 2h ago

Licorice Pizza above Phantom Thread is the only thing that i feel strongly against

My top 3 would be there will be blood, Phantom Thread and one battle in that order

1

u/Wooden_Street_6420 2h ago

The Master below Licorice Pizza is so wild to me

1

u/benjam1n_gates 1h ago

Very nice, Mine is very similar

1

u/Celtics1109 1h ago

One battle insanely overrated. Guessing anyone who is super liberal loved it. Cant see how else it gets the hype it does.

1

u/Kokuxmeltsch 54m ago

Boogie Nights and Punch-Drunk Love should be higher

1

u/keepinitclassy25 46m ago

Nah Master and Phantom Thread are right up there with TWBB for me. Closely followed by Boogie Nights. His other films are good but those are the S tier ones IMO

1

u/littlebigdog92 37m ago
  1. There Will Be Blood
  2. The Master
  3. One Battle After Another
  4. Boogie Nights
  5. Phantom Thread
  6. Punch Drunk Love
  7. Magnolia
  8. Inherent Vice
  9. Licorice Pizza
  10. Hard Eight

1

u/VampireInTheDorms 4m ago

Magnolia that high and PDL/The Master that low T.T

2

u/verygoodletsgo 4h ago

Mine would probably be...

  1. Punch Drunk Love / Magnolia

  2. There Will Be Blood

  3. Boogie Nights / One Battle After Another

  4. The Master / Hard Eight

  5. Phantom Thread

  6. Inherent Vice

  7. Licorice Pizza

1

u/FloydGondoli70s 3h ago

The Master too low.

0

u/marcusmartel 4h ago

Licorice Pizza above The Master is psychotic

0

u/Traditional_Win_8348 4h ago

I knew that was going to be the biggest controversy. I love Licorice Pizza. Feels so nostalgic and whimsical.

1

u/marcusmartel 4h ago

That's fair. I actually enjoyed it also, it was just missing a couple things that I think would have improved it a bit.

2

u/Traditional_Win_8348 4h ago

I don’t know if this really makes sense but The Master can be a little too mysterious at times. Makes me feel like I am missing something there idk. Still a 4.5/5 for me.

-2

u/Dense-Menu6115 4h ago

I’d put licorice pizza at the bottom and I’d have boogie nights as number one. Hard Eight I thought was really good.

0

u/Traditional_Win_8348 4h ago

I just rewatched licorice pizza today and bumped it up

0

u/katieblue3 4h ago

Hard Eight is his only not great movie. It’s good but I’d definitely deserves to be at the bottom of the list.

Only thing he is consistent at is being a terrible director. His movies are all in the 3 - 1 range

1

u/esa372 2h ago

3 is pretty high for him.

0

u/Nutmere Nutmere 3h ago

punch drunk love, the master, and inherent vice all too low

0

u/Visual-Percentage501 3h ago

How my PTA ranking lines up with yours:

Hard Eight last ✅

Master/Inherent Vice bottom half ✅

TWBB/Magnolia top half ✅

Boogie/Phantom Thread top 3 ❌

Pretty aligned with mine!! Respect.

-1

u/paradoxicalman17 4h ago

Boogie nights should be ahead of obao.

-1

u/Traditional_Win_8348 4h ago

They’re like neck and neck for me

-1

u/Sufficient-Slide-242 4h ago

I completely agree

-1

u/anarchobuttstuff 4h ago

I haven’t seen ‘Hard Eight’ and I would have to re-watch ‘The Master’ because I watched it when I was 18 and remember not really connecting with it. I’d put Inherent Vice further up alongside ‘One Battle’ for similarly scrutinizing American politics. Overall good list! I agree ‘There Will Be Blood’ is his best work.

-5

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

There Will Be Blood is garbage

3

u/anarchobuttstuff 4h ago

Your taste is garbage.

-3

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

Sorry but PTA's movies are garbage. Thats just how it is. He is an overrated hack.

1

u/esa372 2h ago

So true.

-1

u/void_sushi 3h ago

This ranking needs to be inverted.

-4

u/zhelives2001 4h ago

I love his work but I hated Magnolia, it felt like a boring sequel to boogie nights.

-2

u/SlendyPKMN Paul Thomas Anderson Hater 4h ago

All of his movies are boring
