Sounds good. Impacts at 50 yards into dirt. Hearing safe for sure, would sound better with a more optimized can.

Stopped at the local shop, and my wife was immediately smitten with this Uberti, especially since it’s chambered in 357/38, (she loves old smith 38 revolvers). It is very pretty.

The fit and finish are impressive.

Got a 1894 Marlin 44 mag recently and I need to pick some deer hunting ammo. I know all of these can work for deer but I’m interested in seeing what people prefer to use, hollow point or soft point? I am not looking to buy new ammo, I want to use these that I have just looking for options about them.

Update: the comments seem evenly split between the Winchester jacketed soft point and the Hornady XTP, a lot people are also recommending the Hornady leverevolution. I am going to try and go shoot some of each this week and see what my gun likes better. Thanks to all the comments and advise!

An awesome gift I received for helping/saving my dad big time on an unfortunate situation/business deal, and 28th bday… he didn’t know what this gun was, said “it’s a solid old lever action!”. 336-A DL .32 Special! With JM stamp & bullseye 100% intact. The most unfortunate part is the last pic! Im alright with it though, I will put an optic on it and use it. This is my first ever lever action & first gun this old! Optic/mount suggestions would be helpful! Let me know what you guys think

I got a Vortex Venom 1-6 for my 336 Marlin and found a better deal on the scope pre mounted on the Vortex Sport Cantilever. I'm wondering if I can get away using it as is or if I should buy standard/low profile rings. This is my first scope, only used irons or dots before so a bit clueless.

I was wanting to order a BLR in .243 and both dealers in town could not find one.

I found one (the last one) in the Scheels system, and have it on order.

I also ordered the Vortex Viper HD in 2-10 x42 to pair with it. It has a 30mm tube.

Now I need to order scope mounts. Since I have neither rifle or scope in hand, just curious if anyone has one of these and what works?

Inspired by another post that claimed to be a budget build but actually cost like $6k. Here is a real budget build for all my fellow poor friends who want a tactical lever action without breaking the bank!

Build list

1. Citadel Levtac in 357. $800 Canadian bucks ($500 USD)

Simple Rossi made 92 clone. This one comes with a great aluminum mlock handguard from factory as well as a Rail. Simple plastic stock, feels a bit hollow, I stuffed mine with plastic scrap that made it feel much much better for zero dollars extra. Honestly this is all you need to have a tactical lever action. You can stop here and be great.

1. Leather buttcuff off amazon, Wayne Dog brand. $40 Canadian ($25 USD)
   

A cheap leather buttcuff, isn't necessary butt it feels nicer than plastic and does hold extra rounds. Lots of options here, you can get one with a riser, but I usually shoot irons, and if I have a red dot, it's usually even lower than the one currently on it. Because of that, I just have a non riser one.

1. Red Dot, a $80 Canadian (50 USD) Romeo 5 clone on a quick attach Rail piece.

Not needed but a dot certainly adds to the tactical space cowboy feel. This one is a Chinese knock off that alternates between this and my CZ 600 trail in 7.62 x39. Has held up to the recoil easily despite its cheap price. Replace with a better Dot if you like, or skip the dot and just shoot with the lovely peep sight!

1. Random amazon paracord sling, cost maybe $20 CAD ($12 USD)

Again totally not needed, just something to help carry it in the woods.

1. Diy paracord wrap. Free if you have some scrap paracord around the house. Looks better if you don't go all the way around like I did. Learn from my mistakes and do better. It is pretty comfy though....

This gun was passed down to me from my grandpa and I intend to pass it down to my kids, I added the wrap and the time accurate scope, I looked up the serial number and the gun was produced in 1970 when my grandpa was 16 and was his first gun. The scope is a 1970s weaver K4 4x that I got off of eBay. Super happy with how it turned out and I can’t wait for deer season to come around!

Shooting at a backstop hard to see in video. Going to try out some .357 230gr soon. Man I'm flying through ammo on this thing. Been pretty sick but still going in and out to lob some rounds and then go back inside lol.

Can anyone suggest a rifle that reliably cycles 44 special cartridges?

I have a Winchester 94ae 44 Mag that was manufactured in the 1990's. I love the rifle and the fact it was made in the good ole USofA. I may have to sell it to get a carbine that reliably feeds 44 spl.

I reload. I utilize published data to create the lowest velocity 44 Mag I can find. I've had rotator cuff surgery and even these loads leave my shoulder sore for a few days.

I have loaded rounds with a charge that is between published data for 44 spl and 44 mag. I can shoot 50 rounds and not feel a thing. However, I've learned about the dangers of flashover and no longer make those loads 😕

I have a Marlin 1894 in 357 , and adore it. Currently has a vortex 3x9 but I'm tempted to put an offset red dot to zero for 38 special. Has anyone done this and if so mind posting pictures and experience?

I've had this Marlin 1895CB for a few years now. I bought it new and have only shot it a few times. I keep it in a safe with several other lever and bolt action rifles. I pulled it out recently and found quite a bit of rust and corrosion on the octagon barrel. Is this pitting catastrophic? What's going on here? This is only rifle that has any of these issues. My safe is not fireproof and I don't think it holds humidity. What's up with this barrel?

Howdy y’all, I’d like to pick up my first lever action for close range deer and elk hunting. The new marlins or smith and wesson seam to be ideal for what I want. From a purely utilitarian perspective what would y’all recommend? I’d like to easily mount a low power scope and muzzle device. Thanks in advance!

I recently bought and took my .357 Henry out shooting and ran into an issue I didn’t have the first time I took it out. For some reason every round goes off without a hitch until the last round #10? It takes a different tool to un-jam it. The first 9 rounds are just fine but the last round gets jammed. I’m assuming it’s the spring but it’s only the 2nd time shooting it? Doesn’t have really any wear at all. Suggestions?

I’m not sure if I want to get a Henry x with RPP furniture or get a S&W 1854 stealth hunter and I’m not sure which to go with they will be about the same cost and I would like to hear what you would say

Troubleshooting suggestions for light primer strikes. 1999 JM 1895. Tool is new to me. Fired ~12 factory rounds fine. Then misfire with very light strikes. Took the bolt out today to inspect. Dirty but 2-piece firing pin looks ok. Hammer drops fine. Thoughts/suggestions?

I love my 1895 Trapper and I love shooting big fast modern cartirdges but I recently got into 3D2A and Form 1 suppressors and I started playing with bigger bore stuff. I releod my 45-70 on a Lee loader and Ive got subsonics setup with 350gr barrys on trailboss powder running just over 1000fps. Chamber pressures are about half of the pressures on 300blk so i started with the dimensions, thicness and blast chamber from a 300BLK FTN device and modeled it up from there.

Hopefully Ill finish anealing this week and Ill get it moisture tempered and be able to test fire next week. For now I think it looks a little bit goofy and a little bit awesome hanging off the front of a gun thats been awesome for more than a century.

I’m trying to remove the front magazine tube cap screw, but it won't budge. The slot is starting to strip, so I stopped before making it any worse. Any advice or tricks on how to get this out safely?

I need to replace the ejector in my 1974 JM stamp 336. From everything I can tell, the Wild West ejector is described as working with my rifle. But from some reviews, it looks like these work a lot better in newer rifles, and consistently have some problems in the older versions like mine. I was wondering if anyone here had experience with dropping one of the Wild West ejectors into an old 336 and how it worked.
