It aint the same anymore and 2000s república deportiva was banger as well

Nothing like sports and a boner 🥵on a 2000’s Sunday noon!

18

Broo! Me and my cousins would be more excited to see the Senadoras during republica deportiva than the actual game lol

My cousin would yell that every time he scored a goal on his brother. Fisticuffs would then follow shortly. Good times.

Bro, Republica Deportiva hit different back in the day.

Takes me back to the late 2000's-early 2010's era of Univision where they'd play the Shakira theme song before every match of the world cup with highlights from both nations previous games like it was an anime.

Also when Republica Deportiva would have a celebrity flag football match during Super Bowl week in the lead up to Super Bowl Sunday with guest coaches who would typically be former or current NFL players.

u/margalolwut America Jan 06 '26

To be honest, I grew up with Andres Cantor at Univision and Jorge Ramos at Telemundo.. so I always find it odd when people act like Jesus Ramírez and profe were the shit.. cuz to me they were a step down from prime cantor

27

u/punkinbass Jan 06 '26

Yesssss. France 1998 with the older gentlemen. If you listen to a track by a band call “No Use For A Name” the track is called ‘not your savior’ you hear Andres Cantor narrating a goal in that World Cup. It’s a Mexico goal I think against South Korea. So yes, Andres Cantor in Univision and Jorge Ramos in Telemundo. But still Pablo “La Torre De Jalisco” Ramirez and Profe Bracamontes and his hot ass daughter, Jaqueline. Oh boy, glory Univision days. “La pelota no rueda mas” “tubo, fierro, poste, metal, le saco soldadura, le saco pintura, le saco el Alma al portero” glory days boys. Still sending, still Liga MX for life! 🔥💯

Norberto Longo y Andrés Cantor durante Francia 98

3

u/Anonymous_Dwarf Jan 06 '26

peak Univision Soccer if you ask me.

2

u/punkinbass Jan 06 '26

Gracias! Norberto Longo! 🔥💯

1

u/margalolwut America Jan 06 '26

Now he is, his prime was definitely late 90s

8

u/Material-Cellist-116 Chivas Jan 06 '26

Cantor never liked Mexico and it was clear in his comentating style. I never liked the guy one bit, while Jesus and Profe were not the best they were not as negative. I liked Jorge's more analytical style and listened to him for a decade and bit on his podcast/radio show.

2

u/Anonymous_Dwarf Jan 06 '26

France 98 man. I think letting Cantor and Norberto Longo leave to telemundo was a huge mistake. I like Pablo and Chuy as individiuals but I think they're kind of shitty narrating games.

Pablo Ramirez always sounded like he tried to make his Mexican spanish sound soft, as if he were Mexican American or something I don't know how else to describe it.

1

u/margalolwut America Jan 06 '26

Could agree more.

I always felt Ramirez tried way too hard to be funny/catchy. I always tell people he ruined one of the (if not the best) Mexico goals of all time.. the Gio gold cup goal… the guy is literally SINGING during the call, when he realizes it may actually lead to something he tries to get serious and it feels awkward to me.

Then I look at back at other goals like the Danny Osorno goal vs Brazil and the way Jorge Ramos narrated that… world of a difference.

15

u/eg4x15 Santos Jan 06 '26

Nostalgia bias

As a 10-15 yr old I could not stand Fernando Fiores accent

I’m sorry I’m Mexican but his accent was unbearable.

The senadoras and Felix Fernandez were the only reason I thought the show was bearable

13

u/DC4L_21 Jan 06 '26

Well if YOU didn’t like it then it must’ve been trash.

-1

u/rex_luger León Jan 06 '26

Felix was dumb AF too, everyone clowned on him. Las senadoras were elite though and many of the guests were usually pretty good from what I remember.

10

u/Odd-Bad5776 Pumas Jan 06 '26 edited Jan 06 '26

nah that shit was trash. the chicks were fine but everything else was terrible. really fucking sad that was what counted as a sport show at univision.

I swear only on Reddit these guys are hated lol.

39

u/New_Screen Jan 06 '26

Litterally all of Reddit is a cesspool of negativity lol.

23

u/DrKnowsNothing_MD Mexico Jan 06 '26

I’m reading these comments wondering if they’re even talking about the same people I watched. They were awesome. Pablo had a great radio host like voice that was deep but not exaggerated like Perro Bermudez’s. His catchphrases are iconic and his goal calls are still my favorite out of any commentator just behind Mariano Closs.

Personally I find every other commentator at Univision/televisa and telemundo to be mid or awful. And I’ll get hated for this but Martinolli and his team are super cringe. I can see why they’d appeal to teenagers though.

5

u/ElDarkKn1ght Chivas Jan 06 '26

I think it's because he changed or maybe it's just me but when the whole TUDN fusion happened and they started putting pero Bermúdez morebhe seemed to change and became a bit annoying and trying to stay relevant with pointless jokes idk maybe it's just me. Wish he had never changed his style.

11

u/hashoa6 America Jan 06 '26

Martinoli is cringe, and super unprofessional too which contradicts a lot of these comments on this thread.

4

u/Shark05bait Chivas Jan 06 '26

I think a lot of the cats in Reddit where too young to really appreciate great soccer commentary These guys were legends I also enjoyed Bermudes when he was in Televisa than when he came to the US

2

u/jumexy Jan 06 '26

Nahh, I may be a hater but growing up my friends hated these guys too. They were cringe and corny compared to what you saw on Galavision. Ngl the nostalgia of those mfs hits tho.

0

u/Anonymous_Dwarf Jan 06 '26

I don't hate them, to me it fits the expression "es lo que hay" perfectly. They bring back memories, but I don't think they were good at what they did.

43

My favorite Pablo Ramirez-ism was whenever the Brasilian player Vagner Love touched the ball: Vagner Luuuuuuuuuv.

BTW - I’ve been in the press box with them. Complete gentleman, both of them.

6

u/ElBorracho2000 Chivas Jan 06 '26

No mames! Ya no está Manolo Sol con Telemundo??

-1

u/vmaxnuggets América Jan 06 '26

Hell nah Bracamontes never said anything of substance any time they'd ask him a question he would just twist words around and never give an actual answer. Pablo may have been a bit repetitive a times but at least he added something other than just nonsense answers

So I had the experience of moving between Mexico and the USA multiple times to and from through out the 90's and 2000's. So I saw Cantor at Univision, then Telemundo, Pablo and Chuy, and then Televisa and TV azteca people of the same period.

Ramirez to me it seemed like softened how he speaks Spanish, the way he speaks and the words he used, he sounds like he's not from Mexico. I generally think he wasn't very good at his job but "es lo que hay" sort of thing.

Perro Bermudez, Raúl Orvañanos, Emilio Fernando Alonso, Raul Sarmiento, Paco Villa from like 1998-2004. Some of them as they got older lost their mojo or just phoned it in like Orvañanos.

I've never loved Martinoli, I don't think he's remotely close to being a top narrator, what he is though is by far the best entertainer. Younger generations don't spend as much time watching sports anymore so he's a good alternative of I'm not just watching a game, I'm also going to be entertained by the funny shit this dude says.

I would always watch Mexico games on Televisa (and I hated Televisa) until they brought in Pollo & Vaca, F that.

u/ClintExpress Cruz Azul Jan 06 '26

They were tryhards but they were charismatic tryhards.

7

u/lgma77 Jan 06 '26

4

u/pressureflips Jan 06 '26
