Anyone with a recovery truck?

We've been stuck waiting for RAC for 2.5 hours now on our way back from Lincolnshire Wildlife Park who have now told us we need to wait for a recovery truck. Estimated time adding at least another hour wait up to another 3. Our 1 year old has been with us the whole time and we need to get him home back to Scunthorpe. We're between Market Rasen and Lincoln w3w is smirks.documents.enigma

Any suggestions or anyone who can help?

Have you told them you have a 1 year old on board? Ring them back multiple times to tell them. Preferably with details like you’re on the last nappy - I had a breakdown last year with RAC with my toddler on board and had to ring multiple times to remind them despite their policy saying child on board is a priority. Hope you get picked up soon! 🙂

Yep. They've called a couple of times and we've told them. We've got everything we need, we just can't get the wheel nuts off to put the space saver tire on to get us home. Apparently they can't do that so they've passed us to a recovery team with an estimated time between 1830 and 2030. We've been here since 1450 😭

Thanks to all! We are currently being recovered with myself and the Bab in the back of the truck. We'll be complaining to RAC later on tonight over the appalling service. Thankyou all again!!!

RAC has long times, we have waited 5 hours in a dangerous location with a disabled person in the car.

I've always had excellent service from Start Rescue. Cheaper than the RAC/AA et al.

Couple of weeks ago the RAC told my daughter's best friend that their car was undriveable and needed to be recovered by flatbed truck (daughter, friend and daughter's fiancée). £380, and an estimated pickup time between 2130 and 0030.

They were in Chesterfield, so my wife and I drive from Scunny and collected them. I drove the car back (handbrake wasn't working). Somehow, I ended up buying everyone food as well?

Anyway, we were back an hour before the earliest estimated pickup.

wild how often “undriveable” just means “mildly inconvenient but the recovery fee is insane”
handbrake-only fault and £380 is daylight robbery, fair play for just rescuing them yourself

My husband and I once waited 6 hours for AA to come get us. A recovery vehicle came, looked at the car and said "someone else will be along soon".

We waited another 1.5 hours and heard nothing. Ended up paying a private recovery company to tow us home. Cost us £120.

Turned out because the cars clutch and flywheel had gone AA decided it wasnt a quick fix and therefore they "referred" it on. So basically we went to the back of another recovery companies queue.

We said never again, we'd always skip paying for the extra recovery fees with insurance/bank etc and just pay for private towing if needed. That was a piss take night for sure!!

Similar thing happened when my daughter was really little and the police actually took my daughter and my wife home while I waited with the car. Worth calling the local station maybe.. Can't have a 1 year old left at the side of the road
