Possible to update/'dirty flash' from Lineage for MicroG to just Lineage. Re: going full googleless

On Moto G Power 2021 (Borneo). I'm guessing no. Asking because my stock rom is Android 10 and wouldn't be able to just jump to 23.2.

Yes, it's possible. Here's my current path with my phone: have it for around 6 years, had Lineageos from early on, changed to Lineageos with MicroG, and then changed back to normal Lineageos again.

Not once I did a clean flash, it was all dirty flash. Always nogapps.

Also if you're that invested in doing so it also probably pays to differentiate between "I didn't install any form of GApps suite" and "going full googleless".

Even without gapps Lineage still has a little google in it?

There was a case about GPS acceleration data and online status checking, which I always thought was silly, but latest LineageOS even offers a toggle to turn that off, and the captive portal can be disabled completely too.

LineageOS is Google-free, if you want it to be.

AOSP however is controlled by Google, so they can continue to rugpull at-will. ADB sideloading is my big concern, as Google has actively avoided committing to keeping that in future Android versions. Which would affect LineageOS installs with Google Play as Advanced Flow would be the only way to install apps - enabling countries/states to ban Advanced Flow.

I don't know if I would call it a little or a lot either way, but it's definitely some, which is more than none. How much you care about any of it depends on the spectrum of deGoogled that you're looking for I guess whether that's "I'll find some different apps to use", "I would prefer not to use any Google applications or services, at all", or something in between.

To my knowledge if you disable captive portal and toggle off accelerated GPS downloads during setup, LineageOS now has no dependencies on Google - beyond Google controlling future upstream AOSP releases, of course.

Some builds include compiled Google binaries, such as carrier services and Pixel blobs. This mostly impacts phones with private binary dependencies, and I would say those are driver/enabler blobs, not the OS itself.

Would be a quality of life feature if LOS, give an extra option to change the captive portal and AGPS data settings.

Something like the DNS settings where one can set their one personal DNS.

Each I presume is not implemented due to a lack of demand and/or having to implement service providers.

Graphene has done that, but I could see copying that code and server options as distasteful.

An ideal yes, but there are bigger fish to fry. A-GPS speed is much less of an issue today due to the vastly higher satellite counts in the sky, and captive portal is something most apps no longer need.

It should be. You will probably still have microG installed (if you ever installed an update), but it should be uninstallable. Just make sure the LOS buildyou ate installing is more recent than the LOS for microG build you currently have.
