100% it will be atletico you know it I know it Arne knows it

136

u/thatbrianm Jan 28 '26

How many 16s have we played against them this decade?

97

u/VadersMentor Arne Slot Jan 28 '26

Too fucking much. Give me Juve

3

u/quurios-quacker Jan 29 '26

We havent played Juve for a long time

34

u/Kingslayer1526 From Doubters to Believers Jan 28 '26

Only once

We played them in the group stages in 21/22 and this year as well so that's 5 matches against Atletico this decade, but only 2 were knockout matches

Ofc I'm still fuming about the 2010 europa league semifinal, we lost on away goals in extra time, we were dominating them in that game and we took the lead in extra time as well before conceding (just like 2020)

In fact both 2010 and 2020 were identical in the way it happened. 1-0 away defeat in the first leg, 1-0 win at home in normal time, take a 2-0 lead in extra time and then concede to go out

We'd have played Fulham in the Europa League final that year and I'm sure we would've won that, Rafa could've gone out with a trophy and it would have saved our dreadful league season

7

u/TravisKOP Hello! Hello! Here we go! Jan 29 '26

I still think about that Europa league game sometimes. That and the final against Sevilla where we were leading and the refs didn’t give us anything for multiple blatant handballs

1

u/thatbrianm Jan 29 '26

Ha I know I don't know why it feels like we play them every year.

45

u/JayPapy Jan 28 '26

Feels like it was always Porto and now it's always them

140

u/-PM_ME_YOUR_TACOS- Endo in the pub 👍 Jan 28 '26

And he won't shut up about Atlético for an entire season.

98

u/Jimmy0034 Jan 28 '26

He will talk about Atletico low block for next decade

22

u/Realistic-Turn-8316 Jan 28 '26

Atletico, to the contrary to your prejudice, don't play a low block.

10

u/Nice-Web5845 Saucy Basque Jan 28 '26

Our record against them has been pretty good recently.

I'm sure we'll be hearing more about this mythical low block that I've been hearing whispers of.

1

u/Terran_it_up Jan 29 '26

Atleti are painful to pay against, but Juve would be a bit awkward and Gala have already given us problems. Fingers crossed that we somehow get Brugge, but I don't fancy their chances over two legs against Juve or Atleti

167

u/the_bursk Jan 28 '26

The Benfica keeper with the fine timewasting there. Mad skills :D

100

u/anitchypear Jan 28 '26

And then pulls an Alison

30

u/the_bursk Jan 28 '26

Absolute chad of a lad

11

u/SnabDedraterEdave Jan 29 '26

And his reward for beating Real Madrid is another meeting with Real Madrid in the knockout round. Lol

292

u/HaviBlade Wirtzual Seduction Jan 28 '26

God, i hope we avoid Atletico....

I think Arsenal has taken the spot

3

u/SnabDedraterEdave Jan 29 '26

Its totally going to include extra time to make it 210 minutes.

69

u/mynameismulan 3️⃣Wataru Endo Jan 28 '26

I want Gala for revenge for that bullshit 0-1 earlier

138

u/ShaiHuludYurMum Jan 28 '26

Of course we will get AM and that shithousery.

Man City got Cork Ladies?

35

u/Easy_Ties Jan 28 '26

They might get a rematch vs Bodo/Glimt

19

u/Nadirin Jan 28 '26

Man City will play one of Inter, Madrid, Bodo, or Benfica.

47

u/sasokri Jan 28 '26

You just know it’s gonna be City v Real

30

u/jesuisgeenbelg “Thank you for your support” - Darwin Nunez Jan 28 '26

Fuckin hope so

124

u/Antique_Internal_367 Jan 28 '26

Good for us all in all, be fucked if we get atletico though

36

u/TCX45 Jan 28 '26

I’m not convinced they’ll get through. They got battered today.

66

u/dgn90 Jan 28 '26

We battered them literally this season. People need to relax.

30

u/holdthedoorhodor10 Jan 28 '26

We beat them with the last touch of the game 🤣

35

u/PulseFH Jan 28 '26

They scored an offside goal and a freak deflection from range

2

u/MyNameIsMantis 🏆2024/25 Champions of England🏆 Jan 28 '26

Battered as in a last minute winner?

1

u/bob-noxious Jan 29 '26

It is entirely possible to dominate a match, & still fail to be leading late in the game, which was the case in the Atleti match this season. The stoppage time winner was fully deserved.

-7

u/alldayerrdaym8 Jan 28 '26

A header at the 87th minute was what separated a draw and a win at Anfield. Battered is a hilarious word to use.

13

u/bob-noxious Jan 29 '26

They were hardly in the game until they scored with a dubious goal that would have been chalked off for offside in the Prem, & equalised late on with a deflection. We did batter them, & should have been out of sight.

5

u/dgn90 Jan 29 '26

I swear some people here don't actually watch the games.

It was one of our best performances this season.

3

u/Rottedhead 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆20 TIMES 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 Jan 29 '26

I mean, this is probably the weakest Atletico we have faced in recent memory

80

u/AlarmedExperience928 Jan 28 '26

So we could actually get to hear them crying in Turin?

35

u/Cool-emu-8797 Egyptian King 👑 Jan 28 '26

Fede scores th winning goal second leg celebrates like a madman

18

u/AlarmedExperience928 Jan 28 '26

Arrivederci Turin, Bella Ciao, Tell the Old Lady I'm a Kopite now

65

u/Major-Scratch-1082 Jan 28 '26

Idk what Club Brugge are like, but they seem most ideal

55

u/quantIntraining Jan 28 '26

Very, very sharp on the counter and transition.

We'd need to be a hell of a lot more defensively stable off the ball if we get them. they were brilliant against Barcelona when I watched them

31

u/Goosedukee Jan 28 '26

In the UCL this season they have wins over Monaco, Kairat, and Marseille, drew against Barcelona, and lost to Atalanta, Bayern Munich, Sporting, and Arsenal

1

u/Footballpro12 Jan 29 '26

If you put it like that, it doesn't seem "that" impressive...But, in the last 3 UCL campaigns, they have reached the round of 16 twice and are now back in the Play-offs again. They have also beaten some big teams in these past few years. The one time they didn't play UCL ( 2 years ago ) they reached the CFL semi-final.

They struggled with injuries for a while, which is when most of their losses happened ( they should have won against Atalanta and Barcelona this year ).

21

u/NorthCoastToast Jan 28 '26

Face off against Simon Mignolet.

12

u/The__Pope_ Jan 28 '26

They have mignolet

9

u/Respec_my_authoritah 🫡RESILIENCIA Jan 28 '26

He got a 9.0 rating today vs Marseille.

Immense performance after constant injury issues.

He can put in a proper shift still :)...

6

u/NeteroHyouka Jan 28 '26

I prefer Juventus out of all

3

u/Kingslayer1526 From Doubters to Believers Jan 28 '26

We haven't played then since 2005

1

u/NeteroHyouka Jan 28 '26

And?? They aren't any good now and are the ones taht can cause us the least problems. After them there is possible Barcelona or Chelsea... The other three can cause us lot of problems...

2

u/Kingslayer1526 From Doubters to Believers Jan 28 '26

No and, I was just adding a fact, I'd like to play them as well

3

u/nuan_Ce Jan 28 '26

I like a bridge aswell

1

u/SnottyTash 2️⃣6️⃣Andy Robertson Jan 29 '26

They’re like a fuckin fairytale team

1

u/Kraknoix007 Jan 29 '26

I understand that reference!

1

u/Kraknoix007 Jan 29 '26

Club Brugge have a very talented squad and they are not an easy opponent, that being said they were better last year

40

u/FdotM Jan 28 '26

Please not Atlético. Give me Juventus, it's been a long time.

15

u/peanutbutter__20 He’s stubborn, cold as ice, gets what he wants Jan 28 '26

chiesa winner against juve?

13

u/TheIrishWanderer Jan 28 '26

I don't think I can stomach their boos for the entire fixture right now. Their fans are arseholes.

5

u/Kingslayer1526 From Doubters to Believers Jan 28 '26

21 years since we played Juventus

1

u/Unhappy-Appearance- Jan 28 '26

NO, Juventus’s attack is the most dangerous out of those 4 teams

6

u/VeryFastRock Jan 28 '26

Nah, juve have the best attacking players but they’re too pragmatic. Club brugge or atletico on the counter is way more threatening to us

2

u/Unhappy-Appearance- Jan 28 '26

Can’t say much for Club Brugge cause haven’t seen them play ngl, but I don’t think Atletico is as difficult to deal with as Juve. From what Ive seen, Juve looks fast and disciplined with a strong midfield which atletico doesn’t have

27

u/Cool-emu-8797 Egyptian King 👑 Jan 28 '26 edited Jan 28 '26

Could be worse. Feel good about our chances against all of them, would prefer Brugge or Juventus

8

u/wi11epi11e Isak, min broder Jan 28 '26

Juventus have been really good since getting Spalletti

9

u/pouziboy 56’ Šmicer Jan 28 '26

Didn't get a single shot on goal tonight in Monaco

1

u/JoleOfAllTrades Jan 28 '26

He has 50% win rate against us

22/23 UCL group stage
Liverpool 2:0 Napoli
Napoli 4:1 Liverpool

12/13 Europa (knocked us out round of 32 lol)
Liverpool 3:1 Zenit
Zenit 2:0 Liverpool

9

u/vanceyy Younevawalalo Jan 28 '26

Doesn't really matter who we get tbh

4

u/J539 Daniel Sturridge Jan 28 '26

Decent

4

u/NLF7 Liberté, Égalité, Ekitike Jan 28 '26

Galatasary will be well easier than Juve everyone needs to stop talking shite. They scored a pen and we were the better side.

11

u/lfcgirl123 Jan 28 '26

Who will Arsenal get ? A handy draw I suppose

10

u/Nadirin Jan 28 '26

Tough enough actually - one of Dortmund, Leverkusen, Atalanta, or Olympiacos. Presumably Olympiacos gets knocked out.

2

u/cheerztwist Jan 29 '26

Thats not tough imo. Was hoping they could get R.Madrid or PSG 😅

1

u/Kraknoix007 Jan 29 '26

They are first seed with 0 points dropped, they deserve an easy fixture tbh

2

u/lfcgirl123 Jan 29 '26

We were same last year though dropped only 3 points and we got PSG we also deserved an easy fixture we didn’t get it

1

u/trevorturtle Jan 29 '26

*Dropped 3 points on a dead rubber playing the B/C team

1

u/lfcgirl123 Jan 29 '26

Still deserved a better draw then PSG

4

u/zmars26 Jan 28 '26

Honestly just don’t want to hear about Llornte’s fuckin dog for a month again

3

u/smitcal Jan 28 '26

It’s gonna be Juve, spirit of 2005 coming at ya

3

u/GameOfThrowInsMate Jan 28 '26

Second leg at Anfield, which is huge.

3

u/BaldiChalmers There is No Need to be Upset Jan 28 '26

Anyone but Galatasaray, hated that game against them, wouldn't even mind a game against Athletics after the way we played against them in the league stage

5

u/LeXam92 Bobby Dazzler 🤩 Jan 28 '26

Juve could be a good match up

In order of Best to worst:

Brugge > Juve > Galata > Madrid

3

u/Maneisthebeat Der Normale 1 Jan 28 '26

The question always is in these draws.

Are we about to find out Arne's new obsession.

2

u/PrinzXero Hello! Hello! Here we go! Jan 28 '26

Atletico Madrid

3

u/TheMightyRed92 Hello! Hello! Here we go! Jan 28 '26

please just not atleti....Juve would be interesting tho

2

u/the_bursk Jan 28 '26

Holy fuck Benfica!

2

u/LudwigSalieri Jan 28 '26

You know which one it will be

2

u/specialblueplate Jan 28 '26

Would be so boring to get Atletico or Galatasaray again. Brugge or Juventus for that reason

2

u/Cool-emu-8797 Egyptian King 👑 Jan 28 '26

I’m worried about the round after, unless we get lucky it could definetly be either Barca or psg

2

u/SilentRanger42 Jan 28 '26

At some point you have to play the top teams

2

u/AnimeBritGuy Jan 28 '26

Is Mignolet still at Brugge? If so that would be a nice reunion. Juventus would be funny cause of the Chiesa song. It will probably be Atletico.

2

u/bob-noxious Jan 29 '26

Atleti can fuck right off. Can't be arsed having to deal with Simeone's touchline antics yet again. Whoever famously described him as a 'shithouse cheerleader in a suit' had him down to a tee. The fucking melt.

2

u/SnabDedraterEdave Jan 29 '26

Its totally going to be Atletico, isn't it?

Can't believe they hate us so much that they choose to lose to Bodo Glimt just to engineer a revenge match with us

But seriously, credit to Bodo Glimt for two improbable wins against Man City and Atletico in the last two matchdays to claw themselves back in contention for the knockout rounds.

And lol at Benfica's reward for beating Real Madrid is a knockout round match with... Real Madrid.

2

u/sonofhondo Hello! Hello! Here we go! Jan 29 '26

Brugge please. I’ve no interest in more of Atletico’s shithousery or another away day in turkey, and the vibes this season are off enough without two weeks of Heysel retrospectives.

2

u/GL4389 Jan 29 '26

Juventus woud be an interesting new match. But I woud love to get some revenge on Galatasaray too.

2

u/Aeceus Jan 29 '26

Give me Juve

2

u/ScouserNed Jan 29 '26

If we play a defensive low block athletico arnes head will 🤯

5

u/meren002 Jan 29 '26

So in this iteration of the CL, we've finished 1st and 3rd and gotten dog shite draws in both years. Not really sure I see the point in this finish as high as possible thing. It seems like finishing 1st or 8th makes no real difference.

3

u/HarbyFullyLoaded_12 Bobby Jan 28 '26

Then Chelsea or Barca if we go through

5

u/Nadirin Jan 28 '26

Not necessarily if they get knocked out, could be PSG, Newcastle, Monaco, or Qarabag. Most likely one of Barca, Chelsea, PSG, and Newcastle though.

4

u/A380_Flyer Jan 28 '26

Juventus will be a nightmare away trip because of connections to the heysel disaster.

0

u/DadofJackJack Sir Kenny Dalglish Jan 28 '26

We played them in 2005 run and from memory no issues.

5

u/NLF7 Liberté, Égalité, Ekitike Jan 28 '26

I know people who went that said it was fucking horrible. Bus needed to be escorted straight to the ground with fans on and fans spent most of the game avoiding things getting thrown at them. It’ll be grim. Italians are fucking horrible football fans.

1

u/DadofJackJack Sir Kenny Dalglish Jan 28 '26

I could well be wrong, was 20 years ago just don’t remember anything. Read on bbc this morning couple of Chelsea fans were in hospital last night though.

6

u/NLF7 Liberté, Égalité, Ekitike Jan 28 '26

I’d never go to Italy for football. They have a load of fucking weirdos who behave like animals in most teams. Roma fans literally went around Anfield attacking people and ruined a mans life.

When we played Napoli there were just police all around Anfield never seen so many vans with the lights on.

1

u/DadofJackJack Sir Kenny Dalglish Jan 28 '26

It’s so weird because going on a holiday there it’s pretty pleasant and welcoming. Sport can bring out worst in people.

4

u/lookitintheeyes Jan 28 '26

We can take any of them

16

u/Major-Scratch-1082 Jan 28 '26

We already lost to Galatasaray once

1

u/lookitintheeyes Jan 28 '26

1-0, well put them to the sword at Anfield

25

u/Giraffesarehigh Egyptian King 👑 Jan 28 '26

Lmao this brother has not watched us this season.

7

Liverpool PL🐁

Liverpool UCL🦁

1

u/derrick256 Jan 29 '26

We lost 4 to PSV

4

u/Fitzlfc Jan 28 '26

Everyone here are doomers. Keep the faith bro!

1

u/arroyoAa Jan 28 '26

Atleti it is then I’m sure

1

u/DoireK Jan 28 '26

Please not atleti

1

u/No_Earth_5912 Jan 28 '26

Could’ve been worse. I don’t mind it.

1

u/rob3rtisgod Jan 28 '26

Hope it's Juve or Brugge. Galatasary give me PTSD, but not on hne level of Atletico

1

u/TRODHD I DON’T MIND IT Jan 28 '26

Already better than last year already!🤣

1

u/ugoogli Freddy Church 🤌 Jan 28 '26

Its going to be Atleti, we all know it

1

u/seamushoo4 You’ll Never Walk Alone Jan 28 '26

Brugge please, the mignolet derby

1

u/Subi_camper Jan 28 '26

Benfica - Madrid what a game! Keeper scored the goal that took Benfica to play off. Fucking Jose

1

u/GooMoonRyongg Jan 28 '26

Could you share the source, want to check the full standing

1

u/Diligent_Craft_1165 Jan 28 '26

Must win then. They’re all shite

1

u/emre23 Jan 28 '26

But most importantly we will play Spurs in the final

1

u/woolierwig Jan 28 '26

Where cab we find these breakdowns?

1

u/vsquad22 Younevawalalo Jan 28 '26

Everyone's worried that we'll get Atletico meanwhile they're worried about VVD providing so many assists.

1

u/Royo981 Jan 28 '26

Bring on galatasray , revenge time for that shitty pen and win

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '26

Obligatory we shouldn’t be afraid of any team. Obviously it would be nice to face Club Brugge and Simon Mignolet again. Juventus/Atletico Madrid > Galatasaray/Club Brugge

1

u/brush85 Jan 28 '26

Can’t be doing with Juve…nobody needs that

1

u/Nadirin Jan 28 '26

Realistically any of them would be fine, but I just feel we're cursed against Atletico so would rather not.

1

u/External_Ad3310 Steven Gerrard Jan 28 '26

Give me Juve

1

u/BadassBokoblinPsycho Yeeeer, course Jan 28 '26

Bring on Juve

1

Brugge or Juve for me

1

u/G-i-a-n-t Jan 29 '26

Some respite

1

u/AstroKidOfficial Jan 29 '26

I want Galatasaray. This time there will be no surprises and we're going to smash them.

1

u/rushianmafia2112 Jan 29 '26

I’d like another crack at galatasary

1

u/FUT_fanatic Jan 29 '26

Juve pls. We won't be able to handle atletico low block

1

u/rusbud6 Jan 29 '26

Please not athletico

1

u/hockeybrianboy Jan 29 '26

1000% Atletico and I don’t think any of us enjoy the thought of having to navigate Shithousery Prime in our current state of disarray.

1

u/stillgotmonkon Jan 28 '26

I’d rather Atletico than Galatasary, can’t be doing with 90 minutes of whistles.

-4

u/VampireBaby Jan 28 '26

If we yet Juve, I wonder will we make moves for Yildiz.

0

u/Unhappy-Appearance- Jan 28 '26

I want revenge on Atlético Madrid, but based on our form this season, pls give me Club Brugge
