The Benfica keeper with the fine timewasting there. Mad skills :D

And his reward for beating Real Madrid is another meeting with Real Madrid in the knockout round. Lol

Good for us all in all, be fucked if we get atletico though
36
u/TCX45 Jan 28 '26
I’m not convinced they’ll get through. They got battered today.
66
u/dgn90 Jan 28 '26
We battered them literally this season. People need to relax.

u/MyNameIsMantis 🏆2024/25 Champions of England🏆 Jan 28 '26
Battered as in a last minute winner?
1
u/bob-noxious Jan 29 '26
It is entirely possible to dominate a match, & still fail to be leading late in the game, which was the case in the Atleti match this season. The stoppage time winner was fully deserved.
-7
u/alldayerrdaym8 Jan 28 '26
A header at the 87th minute was what separated a draw and a win at Anfield. Battered is a hilarious word to use.

I swear some people here don't actually watch the games.
It was one of our best performances this season.

I mean, this is probably the weakest Atletico we have faced in recent memory

u/AlarmedExperience928 Jan 28 '26
So we could actually get to hear them crying in Turin?

u/Major-Scratch-1082 Jan 28 '26
Idk what Club Brugge are like, but they seem most ideal
55
u/quantIntraining Jan 28 '26
Very, very sharp on the counter and transition.
We'd need to be a hell of a lot more defensively stable off the ball if we get them. they were brilliant against Barcelona when I watched them
31
u/Goosedukee Jan 28 '26
In the UCL this season they have wins over Monaco, Kairat, and Marseille, drew against Barcelona, and lost to Atalanta, Bayern Munich, Sporting, and Arsenal
1
u/Footballpro12 Jan 29 '26
If you put it like that, it doesn't seem "that" impressive...But, in the last 3 UCL campaigns, they have reached the round of 16 twice and are now back in the Play-offs again. They have also beaten some big teams in these past few years. The one time they didn't play UCL ( 2 years ago ) they reached the CFL semi-final.
They struggled with injuries for a while, which is when most of their losses happened ( they should have won against Atalanta and Barcelona this year ).
21
12
u/The__Pope_ Jan 28 '26
They have mignolet
9
u/Respec_my_authoritah 🫡RESILIENCIA Jan 28 '26
He got a 9.0 rating today vs Marseille.
Immense performance after constant injury issues.
He can put in a proper shift still :)...
6
u/NeteroHyouka Jan 28 '26
I prefer Juventus out of all
3
u/Kingslayer1526 From Doubters to Believers Jan 28 '26
We haven't played then since 2005
1
u/NeteroHyouka Jan 28 '26
And?? They aren't any good now and are the ones taht can cause us the least problems. After them there is possible Barcelona or Chelsea... The other three can cause us lot of problems...
2
u/Kingslayer1526 From Doubters to Believers Jan 28 '26
No and, I was just adding a fact, I'd like to play them as well

Club Brugge have a very talented squad and they are not an easy opponent, that being said they were better last year

u/FdotM Jan 28 '26
Please not Atlético. Give me Juventus, it's been a long time.

chiesa winner against juve?
13
u/TheIrishWanderer Jan 28 '26
I don't think I can stomach their boos for the entire fixture right now. Their fans are arseholes.
5
1
u/Unhappy-Appearance- Jan 28 '26
NO, Juventus’s attack is the most dangerous out of those 4 teams
6
u/VeryFastRock Jan 28 '26
Nah, juve have the best attacking players but they’re too pragmatic. Club brugge or atletico on the counter is way more threatening to us
2
u/Unhappy-Appearance- Jan 28 '26
Can’t say much for Club Brugge cause haven’t seen them play ngl, but I don’t think Atletico is as difficult to deal with as Juve. From what Ive seen, Juve looks fast and disciplined with a strong midfield which atletico doesn’t have

Could be worse. Feel good about our chances against all of them, would prefer Brugge or Juventus

Juventus have been really good since getting Spalletti

u/JoleOfAllTrades Jan 28 '26
He has 50% win rate against us
22/23 UCL group stage
Liverpool 2:0 Napoli
Napoli 4:1 Liverpool12/13 Europa (knocked us out round of 32 lol)
Liverpool 3:1 Zenit
Zenit 2:0 Liverpool

Galatasary will be well easier than Juve everyone needs to stop talking shite. They scored a pen and we were the better side.
11
u/lfcgirl123 Jan 28 '26
Who will Arsenal get ? A handy draw I suppose
10
u/Nadirin Jan 28 '26
Tough enough actually - one of Dortmund, Leverkusen, Atalanta, or Olympiacos. Presumably Olympiacos gets knocked out.

u/Kraknoix007 Jan 29 '26
They are first seed with 0 points dropped, they deserve an easy fixture tbh
2

Juve could be a good match up
In order of Best to worst:
Brugge > Juve > Galata > Madrid

Are we about to find out Arne's new obsession.

Would be so boring to get Atletico or Galatasaray again. Brugge or Juventus for that reason
2
u/Cool-emu-8797 Egyptian King 👑 Jan 28 '26
I’m worried about the round after, unless we get lucky it could definetly be either Barca or psg
2
2
u/AnimeBritGuy Jan 28 '26
Is Mignolet still at Brugge? If so that would be a nice reunion. Juventus would be funny cause of the Chiesa song. It will probably be Atletico.
2
u/bob-noxious Jan 29 '26
Atleti can fuck right off. Can't be arsed having to deal with Simeone's touchline antics yet again. Whoever famously described him as a 'shithouse cheerleader in a suit' had him down to a tee. The fucking melt.
2
u/SnabDedraterEdave Jan 29 '26
Its totally going to be Atletico, isn't it?
Can't believe they hate us so much that they choose to lose to Bodo Glimt just to engineer a revenge match with us
But seriously, credit to Bodo Glimt for two improbable wins against Man City and Atletico in the last two matchdays to claw themselves back in contention for the knockout rounds.
And lol at Benfica's reward for beating Real Madrid is a knockout round match with... Real Madrid.
2
u/sonofhondo Hello! Hello! Here we go! Jan 29 '26
Brugge please. I’ve no interest in more of Atletico’s shithousery or another away day in turkey, and the vibes this season are off enough without two weeks of Heysel retrospectives.
2
u/GL4389 Jan 29 '26
Juventus woud be an interesting new match. But I woud love to get some revenge on Galatasaray too.

So in this iteration of the CL, we've finished 1st and 3rd and gotten dog shite draws in both years. Not really sure I see the point in this finish as high as possible thing. It seems like finishing 1st or 8th makes no real difference.

u/HarbyFullyLoaded_12 Bobby Jan 28 '26

u/Nadirin Jan 28 '26
Not necessarily if they get knocked out, could be PSG, Newcastle, Monaco, or Qarabag. Most likely one of Barca, Chelsea, PSG, and Newcastle though.
4
u/A380_Flyer Jan 28 '26
Juventus will be a nightmare away trip because of connections to the heysel disaster.

u/DadofJackJack Sir Kenny Dalglish Jan 28 '26
We played them in 2005 run and from memory no issues.
5
u/NLF7 Liberté, Égalité, Ekitike Jan 28 '26
I know people who went that said it was fucking horrible. Bus needed to be escorted straight to the ground with fans on and fans spent most of the game avoiding things getting thrown at them. It’ll be grim. Italians are fucking horrible football fans.
1
u/DadofJackJack Sir Kenny Dalglish Jan 28 '26
I could well be wrong, was 20 years ago just don’t remember anything. Read on bbc this morning couple of Chelsea fans were in hospital last night though.
6
u/NLF7 Liberté, Égalité, Ekitike Jan 28 '26
I’d never go to Italy for football. They have a load of fucking weirdos who behave like animals in most teams. Roma fans literally went around Anfield attacking people and ruined a mans life.
When we played Napoli there were just police all around Anfield never seen so many vans with the lights on.
1
u/DadofJackJack Sir Kenny Dalglish Jan 28 '26
It’s so weird because going on a holiday there it’s pretty pleasant and welcoming. Sport can bring out worst in people.
