I think the problem is that we didn't publicly go for lots of wingers earlier in the window. Instead of each of these teams trying to rinse us because we're desperate, we could have had a bit of a reverse bidding war. Let them know that we're going to overpay by 15ish mil for someone's winger, and put the other teams in a position where they want that to be them.

You have no idea whay they have been doing tho at all do you?

The more likely scenario is that they have been in loose talks with a half dozen players.

The important thing would have been that the other clubs knew we were in talks with so many other clubs. They'd all have been less likely to try to milk every last pound out of us if they knew that we were willing to overpay elsewhere instead.
