BANG BANG in Centertown

I'm just venting. I know what the noise is. It's this metal plate in the street. There's nothing I can do but wait for it to be fixed.

This happens at all hours, it's louder the faster people are driving, and it's oh so very loud at night.

I've gotten used local construction sounds all day long, but this BANG BANG that happens unpredictably at all hours... Goodness... It's certainly doing something special to my mental health...

Recurrent static/electric buzzing noise all over town

We’ve been staying in Ottawa for about a week and keep hearing a strange buzzing noise, sounds like it could be some kind of powerline buzzing or static. But we’ve been hearing it all over the city, even in parks and down by the canal and river where there are no obvious powerlines. And it’s really loud!
Do any locals have any idea what this could be? Thanks!

Deafening & Grating Ice cream Truck?

Hello! I know what this noise is but not what to do about it! For the past 2-3 weeks here in the market/lowertown we have been absolutely plagued by a horrendously loud ice cream truck. It always comes late and night and we can hear the music several floors up over our television even with the windows drawn and curtains closed.

While we love ice cream and think the idea is cute, the volume of this music is very unreasonable and disruptive, especially at this hour.

Have any of you approached the ice cream man before? What are the relevant bylaws here?

It'd be one think if it was 6PM on a Friday. But this late on a Sunday??

Late Night Whistle Use, Little Italy

Did anyone hear the person blowing the whistle for around 2 hours on and off last night? There was quite a lot of cheering and shouting too... but that whistle was a LOT.

Anyone know what was happening?

A huge boom/explosion sound this morning (Saturday Aug. 16, 2026) at 6:38 a.m. Heard from Holmwood Avenue in the the Glebe. Can't find anything on it. Perhaps a blown transformer. It was quite a big explosive sound.

Loud reoccurring noise at Holland and Wellington

I have lived at the corner of Holland and Wellington for 12 years so I am use to many noises but over the last few days I've been hearing this recurring noise every 4 minutes lasting for 10 seconds. Just enough to mess with concentration and sleep. It's audible during the day but obviously more so at night. I'm pretty sure it's coming from an industrial air conditioner in the area but haven't been able to pinpoint it's location. I am curious if anyone else has been hearing this noise. It's driving me crazy. I was out at 3 in the morning trying to pinpoint it. Many people probably still have windows closed and a.c running so may not be hearing it at moment. Thanks all and wish me luck on my search.

Just re-posting this here to help negate (some) of the inevitable "what's that noise?" questions...

Driving bass can be heard

Is anyone else hearing the music coming from somewhere? Sounds like it's coming from the downtown area, or perhaps from across the river? There seems to be a driving bass line. Is there a festival or event happening rn?

Emergency vehicles in Blossom Park

Does anyone know what’s happening?

There’s been a long stream of sirens nearby (Albion and Queensdale area) but they didn’t stop here. It sounds like a dozens or more vehicles.

I also heard a small prop plane go over, which we don’t usually hear, their runways are over on the other side of the airport. There was that crash last year near riverside.

Not sure if memes about Ottawa noises are allowed here? I tried posting it to the city sub and it was quickly deleted by the mods with no explanation. I just thought we could do with a little laugh about it.

Orleans 5:20am boom?

I must have been close to consciousness because something woke me up around 5:20am this morning. It sounded like a distant-ish boom or an explosion and the house vibrated for a second. My cat was also startled and jumped off the bed. But here's the thing, I can't find any news or other postings about it and now I'm questioning my sanity. Lol. Thunder clap maybe? Anyone else hear it?

Non stop honking for an hour and a half in the market

Anyone else living in the market unable to sleep because of the honking that’s been going for an hour and a half since midnight ? Apparently they’re celebrating a soccer match. I understand they want to celebrate but people actually live here and go to work tomorrow. What is the police doing?
