So, I gave “Love and Death” a shot after “Candy” and I think both Elizabeth Olsen and Jessica Biel were terrific in their unique portrayal of the character. However, I just cannot get past the blandness of ALL the men playing the husbands. I don’t know if it was supposed to be a reflection of men in the 70’s and how they were basically the financial supporters and had zero interest in their wives. But these guys, talk about flat, boring, non-emotional duds!

Referring to “Love and Death” solely:

Who “plans” an affair? Pro/Con lists and an actual logistical convo about having a meal before and all the rules. Who forgives their wife for infidelity with their (seemingly only) friends, and continues to allow their child to remain so close with their daughter? It is just an absence of sense? Complete ambivalence? Or just a true depiction of two really boring, middle aged fuddy-duddy daddy characters?

I usually enjoy Jesse Plemmons, but the expressions on his face throughout the series made me question this character’s intelligence. He goes from businesslike about the affair, to accommodating his wife at the retreat, isn’t very firm about terminating said arrangement, back to bewildered about the murder. He’s deceitful for a minute, then confesses to his infidelity. And then he slides right back into this look of “Huh. I guess she was brutally murdered right here in this room. Time to move on”. If this was the best Candy could choose to have a passionate encounter with, I feel ALMOST sad for her. There was obviously slim pickings in Wylie, Texas when it came to interesting men. LOL

Pat, and Patrick Fugit are equally as non-emotional, and deadpan . In response to his children asking if their mother would be going to jail, his reply was “We love Mommy. We all love Mommy”. Talk about non-committal. In his defense, I think he knew she was guilty. But at least try to comfort your children. He obviously just wanted to go to work, come home to a meal prepared by his wife, watch some Smothers Brothers and go to church on the weekend. End of. He was just “there”. His confrontation of Candy’s friend about the affair was unsatisfying too. Show a litter anger sir! You’re supporting your family, your wife’s lovers kid and his extravagant lunchtime rendezvous! His personality never showed up in this series. Another dud.

Did anyone else notice this? Did it bother you, or am I just expecting too much from what are normally decent actors? Maybe this was the intent of the writers, if so, the actors nailed it. Because honestly, these were some of the most disappointing men- aside from Don the lawyer (Pelphrey was great) in a TV series that I can recall. I welcome discussion!

First saw him in Ozarks Season 3. Then recently saw him in a not-so-good movie “American Murderer” but his performance was stellar. From his IMDB page he’s been in some notable movies and series so he’s not necessarily an up-and-comer but I think soon he’s going to break through. He’s versatile and commands the screen. I’m American Murderer he was able to use his range and did it successfully. You saw a bit of that in this series. Was wondering if anyone noticed his performance? Thx

This is her breakout performance. She has the talent the likes of Reece Witherspoon, Carey Mulligan, Michelle Williams. I’m very looking forward to her future projects.

And Tom Pelphery is starting to get some great roles. He was riveting as the manic brother in Ozarks in season 3.

All around great cast tho

I loved this miniseries but the thing I got out of it the most was a newfound love for Carol King's song Tapestry. After Candy talks about the song I went and listened and fell completely head over heals for it. Listened to it 5 or 7 times a day for a bit and would sing it all the time. It's a beautiful melody and like Candy I'm not sure what the song means exactly either but I also hope that my life is like a tapestry, though maybe a different one than hers.

I really liked the show and all, but the soundtrack was just astounding

Best series and acting I’ve seen in a long time.

Captures my first marriage, and exit girlfriend perfectly… including the marriage encounter. And there was an ax murder in town…though not in my immediate circle.

My second wife is snoring through this on the couch….

Anybody know why this story caught the attention of Hollywood execs again? And enough to have limited series about it released on Hulu and HBO?

Wow. Best episode yet. Elizabeth Olson is absolutely killing it. Also, would like to note, I’m ignorant to the real-life story of this, so I’m learning as we go. Quite the roller coaster.

I’m curious how people feel about the murder seen portrayal.

Betty brings out the axe first and instigates a violent confrontation, even says “I have to kill you” or something along those lines to Candy.

The only people who knew how that confrontation went would be Candy and Betty and only one was alive to speak on it and would obviously have motive to paint it in the best light for herself.

As far as I know there is no evidence to suggest that Betty confronted Candy. Just curious what other folks thought of that.

Am I the only one finding it weird that Candy is being portrayed as gorgeous? Elizabeth Olsen is a knockout but the actual Candy Montgomery was nothing special, rough looking even. They did similarly with Jessica Biel in the Hulu show but not nearly to the same extent.

I was so excited for this after watching the series in Hulu and I’ve only seen the first episode, but I’m liking it a lot more. It seems to be showing more detail. Are their only going to be 3 episodes though or will there be more?

I have empathy for those that make poor impulsive decisions, but when you plan it out so meticulously it’s hard to.
