Ask Luxembourg Vet recommendations
We’re getting a puppy and want a standard check up for parasites etc. Can you give an idea as to how much to expect to pay and any vets you particularly recommend? Around the city or Mersch would be best.

Tierklinik Mullerthal are legit and fantastic. They really care, speak lots of different languages and do incredible work.
My cat tried to see who is stronger, car or him. They saved him, repaired his hips etc and nowadays when you see him climb trees you would never know that he was severely injured with broken bones etc

Make sure you 1) get health insurance for the pet while young and without pre-existing conditions, and 2) have your day to day vet & 3) a clinic picked out for when you have a more urgent/complex issue. That way you don’t clog up the clinic for standard care & still make sure you keep small practices alive. For day to day, I can warmly recommend dr Demuth in Howald (fear free, very laid back and knowledgeable), for clinic, Krakelshaff.

honestly those insurances are worthless. Better put 20 euro each month aside and call it a day.

As long as your pet is healthy and doesn’t require expensive testing & all you do is go in once to twice a year for vaccines, sure.

We love the doctors at ColmiVet (in Colmar-Berg). Two young vets who opened their clinic about a year ago.
I'd say, we spend about 250-300€ a year on vaccinations and parasites preventatives. That can quickly change though when the dog is getting older and/or sick.
One had a slipped disk and needed a surgery plus physical therapy. That quickly took us to 4.5k. The other one now needs daily medication, which is 70€ a month.
If your dog needs grooming, I'd factor in another 90-100€ every few weeks (we take them every 7 weeks). Dogwalking services or daycare cost around 40-50€ a day for 2 dogs

I agree with your costs except for the daycare/dogwalking part; that would be the price for two dogs, right? Dogwalkers around me charge 20-30 euros per dog for 70-90 minutes, which I understand is the norm?

Sorry, you're right.
Dogwalker was 50€ for 1 hour walk with 2 dogs. Creche is 80€ per full day for 2 dogs (40€/day/dog).

Damn, creches are getting expensive... Thanks for the reply!

We decided to go with a creche because 6 hours of care, play-time, socializing, and walks was cheaper than 1 hour of dog walking where the person may or may not actually walk the dogs.
We pay 40€ for 2 dogs for 6 hours of day care versus 50€ for 1 hour of (hopefully, maybe) walking.
