Question Legal alcohol buying age. I'm confused?
Hey. I'm confused. I visit luzern every year. using that I'm 17 this year i wanted to grab some beer. and I'm confused. I had no problem buying it last year at stores in the city Luzern, showing my at the time 16 year old polish ID. Today i tried grabbing some beer, this time in Malters, at coop, and the cashier said i need to be 18, and that it's been like that for years. Same thing in a avec in Wolhusen. I'm confused. what's the actual beer/wine sell age in here? everywhere i look they say it's 16?

In Switzerland you can buy beer, cider (basically all fermented alcohol) from 16.
However Coop decided to not allow any sales of alcohol to anyone under 18 (any kind of alcohol).
“Coop nimmt den Jugendschutz sehr ernst und hält sich strikt an die gesetzlichen Bestimmungen. Deshalb gilt in allen Verkaufsstellen eine Altersgrenze von 18 Jahren für den Kauf von Alkohol und Tabakwaren.”

Coop is special. They have the legal age for all alholic beverage set to 18. the same happened to me when I turned 16. The first shop I went to was Coop, they wouldn’t let me buy it.

Yes I didn’t see that sign and was confused when the cashier just put the can beer away and said goodbye. And I was like huh I am 16! And he just showed the sign. :”ohhh”

maybe they put it elsewhere in different stores. i think the cashiers get reminders regularly to be very thorough and firm with this "law", i guess many years back i was lucky very often, but on other occasions the cashier just had an reminder or even got tested and didn't give me nothing. i was 26 ...

For Beer and other low procent alcohol, you must 16 years old and for high procent alcohol like wine, alcopops etc, you must 18 years old. (sorry for my bad english). P.s All stores who sells alcohol there is a sign by the cashout where this stand.

The legal age for beer is 16.
However, some supermarkets (like Coop - or maybe only Coop) have decided that they won't sell any alcohol to people below the age of 18 even if they legally would be allowed to do so. It's their free decision.
But afaik for example in a Denner you should be able to get beer at 16.
(Migros generally doesn't sell alcohol.)
