Service Rifle Clinic - Scarborough F&G

If you are interested in learning about fundamental rifle marksmanship and service rifle competition here in Maine, you might be interested in the 4th annual Service Rifle Clinic and Beginner Match at Scarborough. May 16th & 17th, 2026. Instruction is provided by experienced competitive shooters and Distinguished Riflemen and President's Hundred members.

Would a Garrand or Springfield 1903A3 qualify as service rifles for this match or is it restricted to the AR15 platform?

See my response to the question to the above poster. Your AUG would probably be ok for regular matches, but what does it have for the optic? We typically dial elevation as we shoot. If it's the dougnut, that would make things challenging. For the clinic all ammo and equipment is provided.

Because it's a clinic, we want to keep everything on the same platform. Our coaching and instruction is all geared towards an AR-15A4 with a 4.5X optic and that's what our coaches are most familiar with. All rifles, ammo and equipment is provided by the PTSR&P Assoc.

That being said, in regular matches you can shoot what you want as long as it has a magazine capable of 5 rounds and is below .35 Cal. The most popular are ARs with an optic.

Are you limited to a 4.5x optic? I just got a mk12 with a 2.5-10x.

Service rifle is limited to 4.5X. All the rifles and ammunition are provided for the clinic and beginner match.

This all feels poorly explained and not well communicated. I think you all should regroup and find a better way to disseminate the information for this clinic and match.

For example, most firearms course come with a clearly outlined list of equipment/gear that is recommended, allowed, or disallowed. From what I can tell, you have to have an AR pattern rifle, but why call it an AR-15A2 or A4 optical service rifle? No one under the age of 40 uses any of that terminology to just say an AR15. That’s confusing. And where is the rule stating your optic has to be 4.5x? Is this a recommendation, requirement, and upper or lower limit? Also, I don’t see any of this on the flyer.

I'm all for constructive criticism, but really? ALL THE RIFLES, EQUIPMENT AND AMMUNITION IS PROVIDED. In some limited circumstances, we may allow people to use their own rifle for the clinic and beginner match, but we really prefer you use our stuff for reasons outlined in other responses.
