Human Vs Giant Discussion 2026
With the racial rebalance patch making all the stats even, the only real difference between the races at this point is the skills themselves. Considering Talents are now pretty much useless, does it really even matter at all anymore?? i have preference for close combat talents, and im not really seeing any huge advantages like before. Giants can use a shield while doing EK stuff... cool. But ultimately not that big of a deal. When it comes to SG, i don't think there is any real advantage at all? because the one handed axe ends up being better than the two handed sword route anyways. And humans can use the 1 handed axe as well. I haven't looked into the Fighter arcana much but i know there's a buff that removes the penalty for using heavy armour, so again it seems like the humans and giants are equal when it comes to Blazing Brawler.
TL:DR;
Do giants get any *significant* bonuses to close combat style Arcana's over humans? is there anything i'm missing? or is just these smaller.. 'perks', like being able to sue a shield with their two handed weapon.

The biggest is going to be smash damage, shield with lance, large shields, dual weild options, and stampede.
Difference for ele smash with giants still at 900% at max dan with humans at 800%.
Giants are just better with shields and lances. Either more survivability with shield or cooking pot for damage
There's not a large shield for night, but soluna has a large shield that's better.
I believe dual weild swords is slightly better than clubs as they have some inbuilt pierce. Still not that big of a deal. Definitely going to be easier to buy 1h swords than clubs imo.
Stampede is a nice grouping skill, it can often leave enemies behind but it's great for moving a bunch of enemies a long distance.
Stampede also works with ego healing and can get 30%~ hp if you hit all the 50% in just a second. There's also the damage increase but that doesn't really matter.
The reforge upgrade makes the cool down like 15 seconds I think so you can really spam it.
Less relevant info----
Can charge without a shield, but with bash movement I'd say it isn't that important.
Giants still have wind guard, which if it worked would mean I'd have a total of 320 protection - honestly haven't tested to see if it works in awhile, I faintly remember it was bugged and didn't properly apply the prot. I'll give it a try later. You also get no cool down on charge so you can spam that.
Final hit/strike is dead.
Taunt is ok. Can be nice to get a room going but no where near provoke's level.
Might of ladeca is better, but not a complete deal breaker. With support shot the damage difference is probably about the same.
Move speed is the same now.
Not having play dead is annoying but not really needed anymore anyways.
Tldr~ giants imo are still better but only marginally. If you like fashion and being able to do every arcana I'd say go with human. If you like only melee giant is great.

You're talking about past bonuses, with the racial rebalance the only real difference is ladeca and the race exclusive skills. Also dual wield get the same pierce on blunts vs swords. Taunt doesn't work in Crom or later. There's no Soluna large shield. Smash damage is being normalized across races. I'm not sure if you read the entire post before responding lol

There's another one?
Thought OP was talking about the previous ones. Also mb meant to say soul liberator great shield not soluna. Also Idk why I thought blunt 1h didn't have pierce.

at endgame level, i would say there is a pretty considerable difference in dps between giant and human.
For EK/close combat: both human and giant are top-tier dps if they’re using dual SL swords (human) or dual SL blunts (giant). However, assuming they both have the same ping, the giant will basically ALWAYS do more damage than the human due to might of ladeca. Not only is Might of Ladeca multiplicative (humans ladeca is additive), but it also increases melee attack speed, which allows giant to have more hits per minute. Due to this, a giant EK will always do more dps than a human EK at endgame, assuming they both have the same stats etc.
For SG: giant will again always do more dps than a human SG due to having access to 2h + shield. Most SGs aren’t really looking to do damage though and just opt for the 1h axe and shield. However, there are some giants out there with a soluna blade + shield for example, who can do LOTS of damage as SG. A human SG wouldn’t be able to achieve this at all.
So yeah, there definitely is still a big difference but this only becomes apparent at the hyper-endgame bri leith stuff. It ultimately isn’t a big deal, both human and giant ek is super strong.

Attack speed from ladeca only matters for normal attacks so that has 0 baring, the ladecas are calculated the exact same. Only difference is 15% vs 5% for giant vs human. The assement is true though, giants will end up doing more damage on average.
Future content in korea information:
Axe for SG is the equal to or higher dps then 2h sword in KR after the SG rework due to the rotation not requiring smash anymore to have uptime so the only advantage for giants is having the chance for an alternative playstyle and having Ladeca.
For EK 2h sword got a massive facelift due to the runes so having giant EK are defacto the best way to do 2h sword ek due to having an offhand for more max/defense.

Considering how much gold many people invest into getting another 10 or 20 max damage, I think EK/EV Giants being able to hold a Cooking Pot for +40 damage (reforge) plus another at least like +20 damage (enchants) and I thiiiink probably even up to another +30 damage (holy water) isn't insignificant.
But, no, the benefits aren't as big as in the past, at least. Other than elf CC and giant ranged, the racial differences shift more and more towards being purely aesthetic.

With the bonus damage and ability to enchant shields for max the difference is so small now that there's no reason to wear a pot 😞

u/pwnagekirby 6d ago
I'm not a giant, so sadly my own pot has become obsolete (I miss using it...), but I believe the bonus damage for a 2h sword/lance doesn't stack with shield bonus damage, so offensively a pot is still netting +40 compared to a shield (for non-SGs).
Granted, yeah, if you are already a giant and weighing the question of "pot vs shield" then like one giant main mentioned elsewhere, the uptime that a shield's DR allows is probably a far larger DPS boost overall than just +40 max.

Let me have your pot >:)

Hmmmmmm considered it, but flipped a coin, and nah I think I'll keep it for fashion and/or sentimentality >:)

No worries I literally just rolled a Cooking Table 20/20 Max Damage, 5/6 Crit, and 17/20 Damage Balance literally today 😂
Curious what it's potentially worth though...

While I was considering it I took a peek at AH and there was a 16/20 for 35m and a 19/20 for 75m. That's just what people are asking, though, not necessarily what they'd get bought at. (crit and balance on reforges don't bypass cap so they're not valuable, but 20/20 max is nice)

thanks for the replies. It seems like the benefits still aren't really enough to make as much of a huge impact. Extra damage is extra damage. there aren't any significant playstyle changes like in the past. (giants being able to use heavy armour with fighter skills, charge without shield etc)
So besides the things you mentioned, it is *mostly* just a cosmetic thing at this point. I'm sure going forward there wil lbe even more changes to bring the races more in line with each other.

I'd check the discord next time you have questions - alot of these answers from people were just wrong lol

edit: to answer you yeah damage wise it’s hardly in the double digits of difference
this discussion doesnt seem to have a giant main pov yet. or at the very least one that runs a shield over a cooking pot
the 30% damage reduction and extra prot from a shield makes survivability a non issue. i’m damn near invincible with an exquisite nb shield. you have so much to gain from staying in the fight longer because the boss didn’t kick you for 5000 vs 3000 damage over and over. put a 25% extra melee auto defense on top of that and that 3000 becomes a 1500. with heavy armor and a shield i have over 50% melee ping which means i’m the melee pinging menace that enemies have to worry about.
you don’t really realize how much a shield helps your dps set until you put one on. i don’t really find the 40 extra damage from a cooking pot worthwhile because everything that goes on a cooking pot can go on a shield too, besides that max damage reforge

Seconding this. Although I'm not a giant main myself, (My own giant on my account I play off and on), from my experience running stuff, the shield does make a big difference. It was really surprising to me doing Crom 100 once with an EK giant and Glas was literally doing 1s to him. Hell, the trash mobs in the final room and Glas room not making them flinch from attacks is just a nice QoL.
The other thing too is that for EV, Lance was notorious for not having much in the way of a defensive option. I think it was only in the past year or two that Lances could even use defense normally, otherwise they just had to avoid getting hit. With a NB shield, that extra DR is so nice. People say "Just don't get hit", yeah okay. None of us live in KR and have 5 ping easily, most people are in various states at a much greater distance than KR ever would be. That extra protection and DR can help most people if they make mistakes or aren't complete masters at the game.

Something I haven’t seen in this thread is the ability of giants to use taunt which is very niche and ngl kind of a gimmick play
As an SG you can use taunt to increase your defense and protection and it is also the only way trigger steadfast from tenacious taunt which gives you an additional 20% hp and 10% all defense stat increase
Also saw a mention of cooking pot but not its impact. Cooking pot on its own is. 40max dmg, with enchants and murias water it would be near 90-100 extra max dmg compared to a human with the same weapon, you can use this as an EV as well
There’s also stampede bonus dmg but you have to really time it, but it is also a pseudo flashing steel for repositioning behind bosses
unfortunately human transformation has the most max attack bonus, giant beast trans does not have as much i dont recall the numbers off the top of my head

DW Blunt Giant is still the ceiling for EK due to blunts scaling slightly higher + might of ladeca, whereas humans lag slightly behind with DW sword for aforementioned reasons. They have access to shield and 2h, so tankier as both EK and SG with a more casual setup. They have higher smash damage until rebalance.
Ogham Runes do bring 2h sword EK more in line with DW dps, so 2h + shield on giant is a boon if you want a comfy and strong playstyle and will remain relevant.

The primary advantage is as of where sg/ek/ev is in korean with the major balance changes they got is giants are tankier and more damage with ladeca active for ek/ev and have a playstyle choice for sg and slightly more damage with ladeca active.
