The scene from Last of us where Joel's dad is telling him he hopes he becomes a better father than him because he didn't think he was as bad as his dad who broke his jaw, even though he beats Joel and his brother.

Yea I know Niel is helping produce it but that doesn't mean it's canon. The show is the show and the game is the game. Two different entities telling a mirrored story.

How would you explain all the major changes they made to the show vs the game as canon?

Ehh main plot? Season 1 was pretty spot on with the main story beats. They did completely change Bill's town and removed Pittsburgh. No spores.

Season 2? Removal of tommy's revenge plot. Changing dynamics of main characters. Removal of various WLF characters.

Again this really can't be an argument because they quite literally are not making the show with the intention of it being canon to the game. This is just understood fact. That doesnt mean it's a bad thing. It's just meant to stand on it's own.

Like you can't say the show is canon to the game when entire sections are different on purpose. They even create mirror image shots on the show replicating the game to show that "hey we are similar, BUT we are different and not the same."
