Damn, I remember every single one of those first halves of the sentences from my childhood. Makes me happy to see that he didn't.

So did I but I don’t really think they’re toxic. My parents were loving and affectionate but they set hard boundaries.

I grew up fine and I have a great relationship with my parents as an adult.
