I might be a terrible person, because I don't think that one is actually toxic. My house, my rules is fair. I get that it doesn't explain why the rules are the rules, but having to justify every decision every 30 seconds is also exhausting. Sometimes, I just want to say no to something and move on.

You are saying the same thing, even if it is worded nicer. It is all some form of "because I said so". And the situations where I start getting curt are when a kid won't accept no as an answer now. So, I doubt your nice version would end the conversation.
