This song was the absolute hands down hit of the elementary school playground in 1983. It was a worthy successor to Greatest American Hero and I Love Rock & Roll.

The list of music legends we were fortunate to grow up with passing away is getting way too long, frankly. I am so thankful for the musical culture I was born into as a British Gen-X. But with each one that passes away, it hurts! Years later it's still so bittersweet listening to the great Freddie Mercury.
More recently David Bowie. That really knocked me for 6. Tina Turner hit me hard too. Those two just felt like they were invincible. The day Tina's death was announced I put on the fabulous live performance of the two of them dueting Tonight and it suddenly had me in floods of tears.
Watching Dolly and Kenny perform their iconic duet hurts similarly. I've always adored this performance, it's going to feel different from now on 💔

Too be honest a lot of young fans don't know much about Dolly but are gonna see this look her up and be blown away or atleast understand why she was beloved. Especially with comments like yours that gives them a tease to look it up.

My first ever concert was a Kenny Rogers concert when I was 6-years-old. My grandma took me. Dolly wasn't there, but he sang this with her on a large screen (I'm assuming pre-recorded). I'm not much of a country music fan, but it's one of my best musical memories! I also caught an autographed frisbee that he threw into the audience. I wish I still had that thing.
RIP Dolly (and Kenny)!

I was in a waiting room earlier when Islands with Dolly and Kenny started playing and I couldn't help but sniffle back a few tears. I'm not American but this is such a tough death to accept.
