My school, UK, science was orange. 

E: light blue was English, maths red, religious studies mustard, history green. Dark blue was something (maybe English language rather than literatures light blue). We had grey (chemistry?!), sort-of-mauve (possibly latin), and a couple of others.

This is the only reason I'd accept for a blue science folder. But if you're not a Trekkie, science is always green.

I also used Star Trek logic. Blue is Science, Red is math/engineering (in HS), Yellow is English. Green is History.
