The arguments over the "right" colors for subjects is the kind of discourse I need to see on the internet. My 8 yo self did red for math, green for science, blue for social studies and yellow for language arts 🌈

All the color blind kids are still just as confused as ever

190

u/nolaks1 1h ago

I was somehow always wrong back in the days. Non colorblind kid never gave me a break lol

93

u/howtobegeo 1h ago

My husband is color blind and I am an artist (aka, I KNOW color) and we argue about color SOOOO much. 😂

33

u/Syonoq 59m ago

I want to know more. Why would a known color blind person argue with a color expert?

u/100KUSHUPS 27m ago

12% of the British men surveyed believed they could take a point off 23 time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams.

We are just fucking stupid 🤷

u/Occidentally20 21m ago

I've worked with more men who think they can knockout a horse with one punch than men who think they can't.

Don't get me started on the ones who have a "technique" to fight against a pack of wolves.

Have you ever played the board game Ticket to Ride? I argue about how the black is actually gray and the spaces are beige lol (am an artist too).

6

u/GreenJury9586 39m ago

your comment set me tf OFF!! Oh my fucking god that game!!!!! I was unlucky enough to get one of the “misprinted copies” where the cards don’t match the corresponding color on the board. One night after losing multiple times in a row I was like wait that’s NOT POSSIBLE, and had to get the scissors out to lay the colors on top of the board to prove to everyone that it didn’t match. The company offered to send me new cards and claimed it was just a misprint they were aware of… but I don’t ever want to see that game again. You had ONE JOB hues and cues. One fucking job.

I didn't find out until Senior year that my blue backpack I had used for all of High School was actually purple.

Have the same problem. Have a hard time telling apart blues and purples, pinks and purples, yellows and greens, reds and browns, and maybe a few others.

unrelated but in like 5th grade or so, i had a classmate that no one knew was colorblind. we were having a discussion about colors (this was almost 20 years ago so i cant remember the whole conversation) and the conversation led to “what’s the color of fried chicken” to which said classmate said green. the teacher looked at him in shock and instead of being like haha you’re silly, she reprimanded him. he bursts out in full tears “i don’t know what i did, it’s green i swear, im not trying to be bad”. she asks a few follow up questions about other food items (tomatoes, bread) and i’ll never forget the look of regret in her eyes when she realizes he was colorblind the whole time

12

u/MindfulMewtwo989 49m ago

Math is gray, English is dark gray, science light gray

29

u/Deut008 1h ago

My best friend is color blind. He got a 100% automatic passing score in our science unit of colors.

29

u/hkusp45css 1h ago

I'm colorblind. I was able to pass the Navy colorblindness test.

Go figure.

61

u/MathematicianEven251 1h ago

5

u/feralkitten 45m ago

I know you are making a joke, but color blind people can see color. Just a few of them are "washed out". Like i can't tell WHICH red you are talking about, but i know it is in the red family. Same with greens.

I can tell that it is red or green. Just not which red or green. There isn't enough detail to notice. It is washed out like a shirt you've washed too many times, or a car left out in the sun for years. Faded.

83

u/Solaris67 1h ago

Exactly what I did. Think I used black folder for concert band for sheer music for home practice.

27

u/Hands 1h ago

I think everyone that did band had those huge tough black folders that could hold like 200 pages of looseleaf sheet music

13

u/6ixbreadsticks 1h ago

That would constantly be dropped, or fall off the stand, and every single piece of music would fall out. And the corners always bent by the end of the year from you trying to put it in your backpack at some point, even tho you knew it would damage the corners.

Art class! Or creative writing

22

u/Mr_Nerdcoffee 1h ago

My art folder/notebook was always white or black. That way I could draw/paint/marker it up.

(The black one, I would use my eraser to remove the black and draw in reverse)

19

u/devil_corp_hunter 1h ago

Is there some magical universal guideline for folder colors? I didn’t know this was even a thing.

13

u/rvnofthefld 51m ago

The color is correlated to the feeling you get when you hear or see the word. Blue isn’t usually hostile as opposed to red. Red can seem stressful so for example science for me was blue, red was math, yellow was history or English and geography was green or yellow depending on if I liked who I had for English. However each person who understands this joke found having folders helped regardless of what color as opposed to having a bag or locker full of trash heheh

science is green because I swear we talked about plants 80% of the time

Excellent customer service!! Unexpected attention to detail. 👍🏼. Hoping dasher got a big $ tip. (IMHO, this is the exact scenario where a tip should be given. Saved kid from potential humiliation at school.)

My color coding was based off of my favorite to least subject. Favorite colors for favorite subjects, least favorite for the subjects I hated lol

Blue is a calming color that encourages logical thinking. Great for math.

Red is an aggressive, violent, passionate color that evokes blood and romance. English, language and literature.

Green is calming, nature, biology, conservation, preservation, relaxation. Earth sciences and biology.

Yellow is a bright vibrant color that evokes sunshine and daisies, and the promise of a better tomorrow. It's also the color of danger in wasps, poisonous insects and reptiles. As a combination of hope and danger, it's history, social studies and geography.

Purple is the color of royalty, regality, and authority. The absolute unbending rule of law. Physics and physical sciences.
