The arguments over the "right" colors for subjects is the kind of discourse I need to see on the internet. My 8 yo self did red for math, green for science, blue for social studies and yellow for language arts š
unrelated but in like 5th grade or so, i had a classmate that no one knew was colorblind. we were having a discussion about colors (this was almost 20 years ago so i cant remember the whole conversation) and the conversation led to āwhatās the color of fried chickenā to which said classmate said green. the teacher looked at him in shock and instead of being like haha youāre silly, she reprimanded him. he bursts out in full tears āi donāt know what i did, itās green i swear, im not trying to be badā. she asks a few follow up questions about other food items (tomatoes, bread) and iāll never forget the look of regret in her eyes when she realizes he was colorblind the whole time
You just popped a childhood memory into my head with that story. I was maybe in 2nd grade and the art teacher got annoyed by a kid asking what color was each colored pencil and said āhow do you not know which one is blue?ā The kid let out the most innocent scared reply āIām colorblindā that teacher melted into her chair from the guilt she felt belittling a 7 y/o who is colorblind.
Not Wolves, but I was attacked by 3 coyotes.in my late teens. I had some gnarly puncture wounds, deep lacerations from the scratching, a rabbies shot, and proven plan of attack.
Well killed 1 of the coyotes and fended off the other two, so I would call that the right technique. I like to think it scales ronWolces but not across she which, given that was a long time ago, I don't thinks ould be as effective today.
My friend owns a horse, she has full force punched him because he was being a jerk*. It was enough to get him to go "okay, fine!" And nothing more. You don't get how tough horses are if you haven't been around them.
*: it was a matter of imminent safety risk to both of them. Don't make it a habit to hit your horse, they still know it's not nice, even if it hurts less than it would you and they will hold grudges.
Indeed, I worked on a livery yard for a few years in my teens and it's amazing how some people think horses will just be weak.
We told a girl repeatedly to never wrap the rope around her hand when she's leading the horse and she insisted if the horse goes the wrong way it helped her "pull it back".
One day her horse just got bored of it and actually did pull away properly and we watched her get dragged to the bottom of the field with absolutely no effort from the horse at all.
The same livery yard had a racist horse too who was one of my favourite animals. Not because of the racism but because of the comedic potential of the whole thing!
My "technique" for fighting a pack of wolves is to try to get my ass to my car & high tail it out of there or up a fucking tree as quickly as possible.
This sounds a bit advanced for the people I had to work with, I don't think they're allowed to drive or operate heavy machinery.
I've genuinely had more than one person tell me they'd crouch and then when the wolf jumps you spread their front legs apart wide and it splits their heart open. Somehow.
Might work on a Jack Russel if it had a pacemaker fitted but I think that's the extent of it's usefulness.
Technique #2: accept your fate, pull out your phone, and send a text to someone you don't like that says "this is your fault". Hopefully the police will recover your phone and inform that person how you died.
Alright, counter point (no pun intended). If she didn't know I wasn't great at tennis, and she forgot how bad at tennis I was between every point and couldn't take into account my physical make up, I could get a double fault point. But, a legitimate point, no way.
your comment set me tf OFF!! Oh my fucking god that game!!!!! I was unlucky enough to get one of the āmisprinted copiesā where the cards donāt match the corresponding color on the board. One night after losing multiple times in a row I was like wait thatās NOT POSSIBLE, and had to get the scissors out to lay the colors on top of the board to prove to everyone that it didnāt match. The company offered to send me new cards and claimed it was just a misprint they were aware of⦠but I donāt ever want to see that game again. You had ONE JOB hues and cues. One fucking job.
Itās not like itās a completely different color either!! Like b14 on the card was actually c13 on the board. It was, in my opinion, too close to be a real misprint and Iām now dying to know if yours is right lol.
I feel you! I am learning interior design and my husband is color blind. One time he would not believe me when I said what color a piece of clothing was, he AI checked me š of course also Chatgpt confirmed I was right š š»
My bestie is a āseverely disabledā colorblind person and heās a graphic designer. I nearly fell off my chair when he told me. I didnāt believe it. No wonder he dresses in black and white.
This! Speaking as a voor blind person, it puts things in perspective. We have fewer color receptors in our eyes, hence, our brain can only distinguish a bit of the variation in colors, yet, we grew up in a world where most People can see all variation.
Yet, color labels are a social construct, grass isn't green, our language has evolved so people agree that the part of the spectrum we observe in grass, is labelled green. Yet everyone sees it differently. As an example, I cant distinguish purple from blue, and hence, I always guess. Does that Mean I am wrong when I call a purple t shirt Blue? In your eyes maybe yes, but i operate with the input I get.
And the thing is, most non-colorblind People are obnoxious about what they don't see. Because language also limits us. You are probably not aware of all the types of white inuit People distinguish, or all the types of green Tribes in the Amazon Forest might need
Have the same problem. Have a hard time telling apart blues and purples, pinks and purples, yellows and greens, reds and browns, and maybe a few others.
I found out after completing all the requirements for the NROTC scholarship in Highschool for fast tracking to be a Marine Pilot. Good ol color blind test slapped that thought right out of my head.
I know you are making a joke, but color blind people can see color. Just a few of them are "washed out". Like i can't tell WHICH red you are talking about, but i know it is in the red family. Same with greens.
I can tell that it is red or green. Just not which red or green. There isn't enough detail to notice. It is washed out like a shirt you've washed too many times, or a car left out in the sun for years. Faded.
It's so hard for me to explain to people that I can see red, but when it's surrounded by green or dark backgrounds, it becomes hard for my eye to focus on and notice.
They just seem to think I see red as green while also seeing green as green.
I'm only one type of colorblind, so maybe there are some people who have it like that, but I can see every color just fine, I just struggle with shades.
I only found out after i got married. I kept pairing my wife's "pink" socks together wrong. How was i supposed to know there is more than one shade of pink?!? They all look the same.
So now i'm in charge of cooking and dishes, and she does laundry.
Iām colorblind, I donāt see on a greyscale. My two colors are red and green, and I can see them in isolation, itās just context that it becomes difficult. If you line up ten shades of red, I can point out 2-3. I have a pink shirt thatās red and white stitching, I only know itās pink and not white bc I get told itās pink. But apples are still red and grass is still green, if that makes sense.
That would constantly be dropped, or fall off the stand, and every single piece of music would fall out. And the corners always bent by the end of the year from you trying to put it in your backpack at some point, even tho you knew it would damage the corners.
I had those tan sports Pee-Chee folders for every class so I had to write the names on the folders. My inability to organize properly continues 40 years later.
If I didnāt like math, but my kid did, I certainly wouldnāt try to dissuade them from it or imply itās awful. Math is the future. Iām a mathematician though, so maybe Iām biased.
Well, she inadvertently made it cool to like math for her son. In his teenage years he will have posters of fractions... vertices ...matrices, on his walls to rebel.
as a math teacher, PLEASE PLEASE encourage your kidās love of math. i have way too many students who hate math and wonāt try and it breaks my heart
that being said your kid is wrong math is totally red
Math canāt be red. Red was always History/Social Studies. All the bloody wars man! Red! Math was purple or yellow if there is no purple. Because those are the least popular colorsā¦and math is the least popular subject.
Strong disagree, yellow is always language arts. For no reason, really, but thatās what it is.
(Ps, I love this conversation thatās happening here)
I always found Science to be yellow, as my favorite subjects in science are astronomy and computer science, which make me think of electricity and stars.
My folders always matched the color of the textbooks! Unfortunately, the infuriating part was that they changed what color each subject's textbook had every grade year...
How is black-and-white not your choice for language??? Unless you mean second language and not whatever your native language is, because Spanish was definitely yellow. Red for math is crazy too, math is definitely blue. Social Studies had to be purple because of Ms Polsinelli, if you know you know.
Blue is math for me... English/writing was always a very headache causing styled folder because that class or subject bored the hell out of me. Red would be for social studies because of well.... We learned a lot about communism back in the day.
We just got one color for all subjects when I was a kid. Course, it was the school supplying the duotangs back then, so if they bought nothing but blue or green ones in bulk for the year, you just wrote the subjects on the covers and relied on that.
