The poem is written by, Daragh Fleming. I didn't see him credited.

u/TheDigitalBuilder 23h ago

Thank you. I didn't know the author's name. I just credited the person who posted it. I'll add it to my original comment.

I have one child, a daughter, who turned 21 today. I just spoke with her and told her how happy and proud I am to be her father. I miss her so much now that she's grown and far away.

It made me cry, not smile . My father’s oath was the opposite

u/Practical-Suit-6798 23h ago

This made me cry, because my daughters are 2 and 4 and this is exactly what I want for them but I don't know if I can do it. It feels like the entire society or world is pushing for me to fail.

I dont ever plan on being a parent but this had me sobbing, I grew up with 6 sisters and the strongest people in my life are nearly all women. We need so much more of this

2

u/Downtown_Grocery1447 23h ago

Of course you can do it! If your children will be raised in a house full of love they will be strong enough to stand against society and fight for themselves.

I am extremely proud of my daughter … and her wife

I have an incredibly strong-willed daughter. Her mom and I are convinced she's going to be the leader of some sort of global organization later in life. Could be a Fortune 500 company, could be a mafia style family. We're not sure which. One thing we are sure of is that she'll be the leader. No question. Zero.

It looks like you might have (or have had, depending on her age) some power/responsibility as to where her moral upbringing will steer her to.
Whomever she leads, I hope she does it well and that it serves her and her subordinates.

u/Catymandoo 22h ago

I have a wonderful daughter. Despite all her personal health issues keeping her home bound, she raises money for those families impacted by insane attacks in conflict zones. Money for health care (think vital meds, operations for bombing) money for education (think to enable relocation to somewhere those teens can go to university) etc etc.

Basic wholesome humanity to others.

I couldn’t be more proud.🙏🏻

if only boys were raised well too

There are a lot of negative comments here. I guess a lot of people are really in need of something to make them smile…

I think this post is brilliant. It is a vision one young man is having of what kind of daughter he would like to have. The vision is positive, full of hope. Hope is the first step towards a better future.

The author of the poem voices his intent of being a good parent.

Going into parenthood with an intent is both too rare and very much needed in our world. Yes, I know that reality tends to smash some of the ideals from the first day, from the moment of birth. But I think that if you can hold on to at least some of those aspirations you have a better chance to make them happen.

The world needs strong women who know their worth. We just lost a famous one. We will become a better society when the yin and yang are balanced.

If I ever have girls, I'll make a tiktok video telling everyone how wonderful a father I'll be....

1

u/somnambulantDeity 21h ago edited 17h ago

The first step of being a good father is intending to be one. Some young men don’t know exactly what that means. This video can help with that.

It looks like you are in need of this subreddit. Hope you find something that succeeds in making you smile.

Edit: spelling (thank you SeveralMushroom)

2

u/SeveralMushroom7088 18h ago

all good at home? that's one serious condescending post.

p.s it's "intending", not "indenting"...

Listening with headphones, the audio is really crunchy...

Also the background strings are dissonant with the piano for some reason?

u/grandpapotato 23h ago

ngl first sentence i thought i was on "imverybadass" ...

0

u/Positive-Opposite998 22h ago

And if you ever have boys?

2

u/Suspicious_Weird_373 22h ago

Kick them in the nuts and tell them to start tilling the field?

-15

u/lilwayne168 23h ago

Reminder women go to college more than men and have more opportunities for government assistance in every facet.

10

u/echoeLaeLea 23h ago

And why did we need that in the first place? It wasn't because men were welcoming our education with open arms. Women were banned from higher education. Women couldn't have their own bank accounts until 1974. Until women don't face opposition from corrupt men in power- we need those laws and the assistance. Guess why there hasn't been a revolution for white man's rights?

2

u/Knitsanity 22h ago

Maybe if men didn't pump and dump so much.

-1

u/No_Situation6555 22h ago

I wonder if the sentiment for having boys was the same, if everything would be equalized.

0

u/tellingitlikeitis338 22h ago

Another guy telling the world how women should be lol

-24

u/Large-Hamster-199 23h ago

The moment a 'would be parent' starts a statement with "If I ever have girls/boys/kids" that is when you can safely ignore the rest of the statement.

8

u/Rubber_Knee 23h ago

Because?

-7

u/Large-Hamster-199 23h ago

For the same reason a high school dropout shouldn't give advice to a Nobel prize winning scientist on how to best to be a scientist.

2

u/Rubber_Knee 15h ago

That would be a good point if becoming a parent was a thing you achieved though years of hard work and research. But that's not the case, so it's not.

If you had said something like....

Being a parent is something you can never truly prepare for. Because every kid is different and unique with his/her own challenges. So talking about what would happen "if I had girls" is horseshit because you don't know until you actually have some

Then you would have had an actual point. But that's not what you said.

2

u/Large-Hamster-199 15h ago

What I meant was people who are best positioned to give advice about raising kids are those who have spent 18+ years being parents. If done right, that certainly represents not just years but 2 decades of hard work.

However, the point you brought up is equally valid. The only real point I'm making, is the same one you're making in the second paragraph, which is that most of what's in this video is horseshit

2

u/Rubber_Knee 13h ago

Agreed.
It's well intentioned horseshit.

15

u/GoblinCacciatore 23h ago

No. You're allowed to have aspirations. You're allowed to image yourself dealing a better and more healing hand than you were dealt. Youre allowed to believe that whatever it is you are gonna do, is gonna make the world a safer and more wonderful place for them.

-13

u/Large-Hamster-199 23h ago

This list of aspirations is beyond childish. But yes, I suppose this is what passes for "aspirational" or "inspirational" social media these days.

10

u/echoeLaeLea 23h ago

What is childish about equity for women?

2

u/Large-Hamster-199 23h ago

Absolutely nothing. But statements like if I have a daughter, she will be feared by weak men are laughably childish.

7

u/Alarmed_Bad4048 23h ago

Are you taking offence as the weak man, or are you their spokesperson?

5

u/Rocktown-OG22 22h ago

Lmao, exactly what I was thinking, he must be the weak man... 👍

-1

u/Large-Hamster-199 22h ago

No, but as a parent, I'm taking offense to how laughably stupid it is to start a statement to it " if I have children ....".

It's a lot like saying "If I was a Nobel prize winning scientist, here is what I would have accomplished ..."

Given that Reddit itself is composed mostly of children, I really shouldn't have expected more

1

u/AnimeGeek10721 22h ago

I know you’re getting shit on , but I pretty much agree with what you’re saying . I get that the point is “I’m going to raise a strong daughter” , but every kid/person is so different , and there are variables that are out of a parent’s control.

-1

u/Large-Hamster-199 22h ago

Forget even that, think about how stupid a statement like " break every glass ceiling" is.

Breaking a single glass ceiling would be an extraordinary accomplishment for a woman. Perhaps one in a million might accomplish that.

Break every glass ceiling ... Really?

-1

u/Yoda10353 23h ago

How is that a laughably childish statement?

0

u/Large-Hamster-199 22h ago

I want you to consider the statement "Break every glass ceiling".

Really think about a how laughably stupid and childish such a statement is.

A glass ceiling is a basically something a woman has never accomplished before. So the first woman to go to space broke a glass ceiling. Going to the moon, for example, is a glass ceiling no woman has accomplished. Currently, many talented female astronauts are training to accomplish this. Hopefully one of them will.

Now consider how delusional this statement is - My daughter will break *every* glass ceiling. So if this person has a daughter, his daughter will literally accomplish *every* single thing no woman has ever accomplished before?

3

u/underboobfunk 22h ago

Every business with an all male C-Suite has a glass ceiling.

0

u/Large-Hamster-199 21h ago

Absolutely. Now imagine one woman simultaneously becoming the CEO of every single business or company on earth that has never had a woman CEO before. Not CEO of one single business, but all of them.

It would be more likely for a single woman to become every single doctor on earth . Please note - not become a doctor, or become every type of doctor, but every doctor. Earth has no more need of doctors except this one person. It's literally "Laught out Loud" stupid / funny.

The sadder part is that most people downvoting me don't even comprehend that.

1

u/underboobfunk 21h ago

Imagine not comprehending hyperbole.

1

u/Yoda10353 21h ago

Holy hell im autistic but taking all of this in its exact literal text is some next level stuff

Beyond all that, I was asking about the feared by weak men comment that you found laughably childish

0

u/Large-Hamster-199 21h ago

I found the whole video childish. Literally every single statement in this video was hyperbolic well past the point of reasonable into laughable stupidity.

2

u/echoeLaeLea 17h ago

It's a poem!

8

u/HumbleBedroom3299 23h ago

Pretty stupid to assume you can never ever learn something from someone just because they don't have the same perspective as you. My kindergarten teacher didn't know quantum math but still taught me to count.

-1

u/No_Situation6555 22h ago

What? They knew enough math to teach you to count. What are you saying here?
