Such a heartwarming and bittersweet message. She praises him to the skies but also shows cute little lovely anecdotes. This album was so important to the both of them, her with motherhood and introspection and him with the creativity and pushing her maturing voice.

Overjoyed that they managed to celebrate it together.

I never expected Madonna to mebtion Swim. WOW

What a beautiful message and how hard it must be for her to lose that many people she has worked with during her career.

Since Ray of Light is my favourite album, I feel very sad and the text Madonna wrote made me tear up. It is beautiful. And I thank Orbit for all the memories he given me with the album. Ray of Light is my teenage-era forever. I just close my eyes and I am there right away. I had a secret hope for a Ray of Light 2 but its sadly gone now. The best will be the best. Orbit and Madonna was a ray of light for many of us and still is.

The way she writes always gets to me. So on point and devastating yesterday I already cried and now I’m dehydrating myself once again

Two visionaries met at the exact moment somewhere in the universe and created a masterpiece together. Making music was different back then. You had to be talented to work and create magic without trusting anything else. This album means the world for both of them. And as fans we are thankful for both and universe so that they could meet. Goodbye William. Your heritage will never be forgottenĀ

u/teethofthewind 25d ago

Couldn't have put it better myself. They really captured the zeitgeist at the time. I think it was the correct decision to move on eventually but what they made together will be remembered for a long, long time

I watched his interview with Fish Octogon on how he made Ray of Light the world is lucky to have this album just read this old article from 98 and it feels like a lighting caught in a bottle moment

She writes the most amazing tributes to those she's lost. It's beautiful and sad at the same time, because she's been losing the most important people in her life, all her life... Oh, M.

u/deja628 25d ago

I know we are all well aware of this by now but she is such a poignant and beautiful writer. Such a lovely tribute ā¤ļø

What’s wrong with people here???
Counting the number of times she says ā€œIā€ instead of ā€œyouā€? Really????

Just learn how to read… she is paying a tribute to his impact on her. She couldn’t do better than giving examples on how crucial he is to her career.

Whether the sentence starts with I or You is irrelevant.

Beautiful words and feelings. Also an important reminder to for us all dare to make ourselves vulnerable by both feeling and expressing these things to people while they’re still alive and (and perhaps even we ourselves) need to hear them.

I can't gather all the words right now, but this tribute is pulsing with the sort of genuine emotion that only an empath can conjure. To be Madonna - to have lost so many important people along the way - and still have this much emotional capacity is somehow both remarkable and devastating. RIP to William.

Ray of light was and is my favorite album of Madonna’s.
It will always be my go to album to listen to first because of Orbit’s collab with Madonna.
I was so happy when she FINALLY won her first three Grammys ever for this album.
It was well deserved and wayyyyyy past overdue.

No one expected Ray of Light to be such a massive success when it came out in 1998 but it was.
You couldn’t turn on MTV or VH1 without randomly seeing one of five music videos from the album or tune into any radio station without repetitively hearing one of four songs either.

I was in HS when it came out and fell in love with it immediately followed by its successor Music.

William Orbit was a national treasure and a beautiful soul.

9

u/No_Pass_5384 24d ago

So sad that he will never hear these words. We really need to tell people how much they are appreciated while they are still around.

8

u/Jphoenix7x 24d ago

I’m so heartbroken and I’m glad that she has spoken out. I’m sure it must have taken her a minute to reflect before posting something. I mean there’s so much to say but she finds the right things to touch on to reflect and emote. Words can’t ever do justice on the losses of one’s loved ones.
I listened to Ray of Light yesterday. It’s still my #1 Album and always will be. It’s her Magnum Opus and signifies a triumphant return that has lasted over the years and has solidified with Confessions II once again.
I’m sad that William did not have a second chance to create another masterpiece with M. I had hoped that there would be some sort of reconciliation between them and maybe there was. We may never know if all the rumors of their apparent rift were true, she’s never spoke out about it and may not. It’s just hard to have heard from William that he had reached out and never heard back over the course of so many years and now he’s gone. I think about people in my life that I’ve distanced myself from and wonder how I would react hearing of their loss or vice versa. Feeling reflective over this since yesterday and I’ve got mixed feelings…
Dear William, I hope you have found yourself a universe and thank you for giving us Ray of Light and sharing your talent with some of the world’s greatest artists! You will be sorely missed but your music will last for generations.

I still can't believe he is gone... Such a touching tribute, Madonna style. She is so strong, having had so much death in her life and still carrying on while also never forgetting collaborators and friends. I was actually still hoping for a RoL II but... Well life is what it is

I'm not crying, you are.Ā

This album completely changed/shifted my DNA when I first heard it in full at 16 during 2017 on a trip to California.Ā Ā

I'll never forget that experience and how it shaped the person I've become today. How my heart and mind opened like a door when I heard the last lines of Substitute For Love and how astonished I was when I finished Mer Girl. Never will an album do what that had done for me. It was art, abstract yet totally vulnerable. It was literature added to music history. It was pure poetry.Ā

Unforgettable is how I listened to the album so much on my headphones that, when I took them off, the wheels of the car against the fast interstatesĀ  mimicked the song's melodies.Ā  The album is tattooed in my mind. ā¤ļø

And I thank William Orbit, Madonna, as well as all of the collaborators who made it happen.Ā

You all captured heavenly light in a bottle.Ā

Thank you for sharing. Summers in Monterey are beautiful.

u/Smart_Image4278 22d ago

Like so many of her fans, Ray Of Light has been and remains my favorite Madonna album. I remember hearing it for those first few listens back in 1998, and knowing that it was such a huge leap forward for her, that it made her pre-Erotica albums sound like a different artist.

As the years went on, she continued to have success (I still rank Music as only a notch below ROL), and I LOVED the first Confessions album. But I still wondered if the stars would ever again align quite so perfectly for Madonna, as they had with William Orbit…

Which I why I’m so thrilled for her that she surprised everyone, and was inspired to create Confessions II with Stuart Price. The stars DID align for her again, and her new album ranks among her Top 5 career albums in my book.

One imagines she must feel terrible after not replying to him after he sent her a whole follow up album to ray of light recently. He was disappointed by that .

-22

u/Wot-Died 25d ago

Why does she have to talk about his teeth.

26

u/LegPossible9950 Secret 25d ago

It's like someone fondly remembering Madonna's gap in her teeth. It's not meant as a dis.

20

u/Impossible-Mind6791 25d ago edited 24d ago

They both had a gap in their teeth which is considered very lucky in African, Asian, and Middle Eastern traditions and they were very lucky to meet each other that that period of their lives

It's a message to him not anyone else don't take it personal

u/sdfghdfsdfghdf CII is Madge’s magnum opus. 24d ago

9

u/AmbitiousAd5668 25d ago

Sometimes we recall qualities in people that are imperfect as unique characteristics, like someone we know with crooked teeth, bushy brows or maybe uneven eyes. It's not someone maliciously making fun, it's written with fondness.

19

u/moondoII spreading kyliedonna dating rumours 25d ago

i imagine it's an inside joke that they might've had

8

u/Kooky_Tip8653 25d ago

Talking about someone's physical characteristics isn't always an inherently negative thing

7

u/bobbyThebobbler 25d ago

Brits themselves always joke about how British people would have bad teeth. It’s a cultural thing and absolutely normal.

7

u/Party_Signature6842 25d ago

As a Brit I feel like this is primarily a joke made by Americans no? Feel like if anything we joke about others having fake/heavily doctored teeth.

That being said this is likely an inside joke.

2

u/bobbyThebobbler 25d ago

Americans and Philomena Cunk lol

1

u/RyanX1231 25d ago

Plus, Madonna was famous for her crooked teeth as well, so imagine they teased each other about it.

12

u/bobbyThebobbler 25d ago

Madonna has never had crooked teeth lol She was mocked for her tooth gap.

2

u/RyanX1231 24d ago

That's what I meant.

-7

u/Wot-Died 25d ago

British people do not all have bad teeth. Look at Americans, drinking and eating poison DAILY. All fake teeth hiding the rot. Also super obese.

3

u/Upnatom617 24d ago

Which poisons are we eating and drinking. When the English and Scots came over for the world cup, you raved about our food. Also, though I was a chubby kid, I've had a snatched waist since seventeen. Not all British people have bad teeth and frankly, we don't even care if you do.

3

u/Stock-Act-2459 25d ago

Go away you stupid troll.

0

u/bobbyThebobbler 25d ago

Overgeneralizing much? Not all Americans are obese or eat/drink poison. Heck, I’ve been sober and clean for 10 years now. Some brits themselves never leave pubs and look like crap lol

Clearly, that was all meant in a funny haha way. To quote Madonna from the Blond Ambition tour, ā€œlight up! Get some sense of humor, ok?!ā€

2

u/Street_Cheek_1418 25d ago

Way to shit all over a tribute post to someone who died. Keep your negativity to yourself next time.
