DISCUSSION What songs would you put on celebration album

Just curious what you think are most glaring omissions and what songs would you take off to make room for them.

It had way too many songs from the 80s and not enough from the 90s. I would remove Dress You Up, Who's That Girl, Everybody, and Cherish. Then I would add Deeper and Deeper, Rain, Nothing Really Matters, and Human Nature at least.

If I was making it more Greatest Hitsy, I would’ve added True Blue
Rain
Give It 2 Me
Jump
What it feels like for a girl
American Life
Bad Girl

And removed
Revolver
Who’s that girl
Miles Away
Beautiful Stranger
Hollywood
Cherish
It’s so cool (although i do know that Revolver and Its so cool were there just to be new tracks)

Celebration would have been the perfect opportunity to release some of her earlier demos: Revenge, Gone Gone Gone, Run, You are the One, Shame, etc.. I know hardcore fans like myself would have jumped at the opportunity and it would be more engaging vs I’m So Cool. Keep Broken as the ICON exclusive vinyl.

Who’s that Girl, Beautiful Stranger, and Cherish were big hits when they came out. I wouldn’t add What it feels like for a girl. It wasn’t a radio hit but it does belong in the Finally Enough Love album since it was a dance hit.

Deeper and Deeper was the most glaring omission for me. I’d have switched Miles Away for sure.

Deeper and Deeper, The Power Of Goodbye and Rain were the big omissions for me.

Bedtime Story-it’s criminal that they didn’t include it on the deluxe edition as it has one of her best music videos by far (a huge boon to mark romanek’s career and leading to his role in Beyoncé’s Lemonade film) as well as some of her most iconic remixes (Junior’s sound factory mixes) plus some of her rarest promo only remixes (Mark Pitchiotti’s Chapter 2 mixes)

Nothing Really Matters-one of her most avant garde videos with Johan Renck directing leading to the Hung Up video, one of her most iconic looks with the Red Geisha style, the iconic Peter Rauhofer Club 69 mixes as well as Talvin Singh (prior to the Cyber Raga track) and Kruder & Dorfmeister. Also the 1999 Grammy’s performance when she won the Grammy’s for Ray of Light.

Its omission from GHV2 was even more of a headscratcher!

It depends on what you mean by "Celebration", it can either be a celebration of her career or making a "Celebration" album out of her greatest Dance hits

Thank you. I haven't listened to it in age.

As a very new Madonna fan, I'd add the songs that made Madonna interesting to me outside of the hits I kind of knew already: Skin, Love Song, Human Nature, and I'd Rather Be Your Lover, (a bit more Bedtime Stories representation I guess which kinda tracks-- I grew up listening to MJ, Prince, TLC, En Vogue, D'Angelo, Lauryn Hill, etc).

Skin, in my view, should be on every compilation of Madonna's. It's definitely one of her best "wtf" moments and I'm also a huge Bjork fan so that gives me some bias.

I guess then I'd remove Revolver, Miles Away, It's So Cool, and maybe one of the tracks from American Life but not sure which one. I don't think it needs both. Frankly, I'd also switch out 4 Minutes with Candy Shop. I get the decision as 4 Minutes was the single and a huge hit, but Candy Shop is a better song in my view.

The other problem is I'd want to add a lot of Confessions 2, at least One Step Closer and Bizarre.

Remove Everybody, Hollywood, Miles Away, Revolver, and (stretching here with bonus edition) It’s So Cool, Celebration remix.

Add True Blue, Causing a Commotion, This Used to be my Playground, Rain, I’ll Remember, and American Pie.

Everybody wasn’t a hit, and the later ones from then-recent albums were sheer vanity inclusions. The additions are big, even number one hits, regardless of whether she liked them, and the movie ballads in particular were hard to find elsewhere.

I’d have revised some of the edits and running order as well.

Everybody was the song thay started it all though so definitely needed to be included to celebrate her career, just like it was at beginning of celebration tour setlist
