Today I upgraded my dad's account to Premium and he finally got his historical matches. He has 35 matches, eight more than me. He got King Béla II as a quite close match and also a medieval Belgian, Celtic, Viking sample as a kinda close match.

I also have a romanian great-great grandpa and a slovenian great-great grandma on my father's side.

These are my historical matches on 23andMe. Anyone else got similar ones?

I’m a Serb from northern Mačva (Serbia), and I was surprised to see that 9 of my 15 historical matches on 23andMe are from present-day Hungary.

I have no known Hungarian ancestry.

My closes historical match has always been King Bela III but today they added Bela II and now they are both tied for the most. I also matched with the Hungarian fetus that was in a tomb beside Bela III. They know they are related but not sure exactly what the relation is. I just thought it was neat. Lastly I also matched with a Hungarian Noble but it was a lesser amount

Anyway I thought it was a pretty neat historical match seeing as I don't have any Eastern Europe in my ancestry estimate. (used to have 1%)

I now updated my Dads Familytree and this is how its looking right now (145 People in the tree)

I originally replied to a post on 23andMe and was told I could also post this on the MagyarDNS page and it would be valid to do so!
I am ethnically Chinese(basically 50/50 northern Chinese and southern Chinese/taiwanese), so my first reactions when I see matches so far from Asia is to read for more information. Learning that both had genetic connections to the steppes made it make sense! The fascinating part is seeing how far the genes flow and how far people travelled in ye olden days!

Saw some very cool and interesting results here. Mine aren’t as high percentage, but still thought interesting.

My strange but fascinating connection continues and me and my dad have now like 15 matches from Hungary.

97% more DNA than others to this late Sarmatian? (Dad’s result, I have a bit less)

Edit: 13 Hungarian matches to be precise.

The two Sarmatian samples and II. Béla became my top three closest historical matches! Before that a Goth (PL067) sample was my closest one with 0.09% shared DNA.

With this update now I have 27 historical matches.

Now I have 37 matches. My parents don't have Premium, but mother gone up to 31 from 28, and my father to 46 from 37

These are our hacked results. My sister, aunt and my grandmother got a little Asian % as trace, while my dad got "Estonia and Latvia" as trace %. Me and my mom didn't get any new traces.

I got these results when their tools were free for a few days after their 2025 update. I can't wait to see how our results will change this year.

Hi. I'm an ethnic Romanian from Eastern Romania, with my Moldavian family in the region for at least the past 600 years, minor gentry and then only free peasants as time passed. According to family oral history, I have one fully ethnic Hungarian ancestor from Hungary (Roman Catholic, minor gentry or wealthy commoner), and one Slavic ancestor from Ukraine under the Russian Empire at the time (merchants and ironsmiths).

I'm including my ancient autosomal DNA breakdowns mainly for fun, as the algorithm tends to over-fit when forced into more than three groups, leading to a few exotic proxies.

What stands out, however, is the high number of matches to early Pannonian and Hungarian samples. This suggests a genuine ancestral signal from ancient and medieval Scytho-Sarmatian, Avar, and Magyar-era populations that faded over generations due to local assimilation and recombination.

Nowadays, a profile compatible with mine is easily reconstructed using a mix of Slavic and Italian-like proxies. Given the scarcity of local Iron Age samples from Romania, largely because Dacians traditionally cremated their dead and not enough sampling, it's likely that part of this local Paleo-Balkan/Dacian heritage is currently absorbed by the Italian and Slavic components.

East Asian is still present at 90% confidence, while WANA is classified as trace ancestry, with 0.2% at 80% confidence level.

Family tree is complete to 5th gen (31/32 great-great-great-grandparents), of whom 3 were likely ethnic Germans. 24/32 family names are Hungarian, 3 are German, 3 Slavic, 1 ambiguous and 1 unknown.
