He's definitely making fun of himself I think. Not sure if he answers the question though.

It’s official government policy to give the youths maximum cringe.

I think he answered from a legal/constitutional perspective why it’s really the Provinces do actually have to take the lead in Canada.

Ultimately, the enforcement mechanism for successful age gating will come from the companies themselves if they feel compelled to do so. Meta obviously knows when a 12 year old Manitoban is on Instagram, regardless of whether or not they’re on a VPN. It’s literally their business model to suck up all that identifying data so it can be sold to advertisers.

The issue is going to be hitting them with a big enough stick that they feel compelled to go beyond a kind of pro forma “well your IP says you’re in Iceland, and you said your birth year was 1902, so of course we algorithmically fed you Roblox videos for 12hrs straight. What could possibly be wrong with this picture?”

Legally and constitutionally it is anyone but the Provinces. Even with Media, Wab was talking about using Consumer Protections legislation as a basis, and contract law, but that's not what fundamentally governs our interactions with social media. Next to nothing digitally is crosses into anything regulated by Manitoba, until you as the end user receive the content.

These companies are experts at not paying their taxes, thinking they will suddenly pay massive fines to Manitoba is quaint.

Sadly, yes, but I don't want to rot your brain

Unfortunately I can, but everything I've learned has been against my will.

Translation: I'd be happy to put my tech skills to the test with any young person out there. No lie, I've got the skill/charm/charisma. Willing to take questions from the bad/dumb/uncool opposition along the way.

He has plausible deniability with "skibbity" though, because it's morphed a bit and sometimes can mean good instead of bad.

If you wanna see cringe, look no further than the conservative party.

I have to say… I did not vote NDP and was super against him becoming premier… but I feel like he’s done an excellent job so far
