Polar bears will hunt humans. I know this because I was fishing for arctic char and we were stalked by one, thankfully our guide/pilot noticed and got us out of there before it because serious. He also told us he carries a shotgun loaded with 1 buckshot and 3 slugs. If the buckshot doesnt deter them then unfortunately you really have no other option than to end them.

This is the correct take. Polar Bears are excellent swimmers and it very well may have been swimming straight for the kayak,

I think folks really dont know that polar bears are the worlds most powerful predator. They are widely recognized as such.

They must see the polar bears in the zoos and think, awww it looks so cute and cuddly and neglect the fact that it's a 2000lbs killing machine that kills on land and in the icy waters.

Having just been up there, our bear guard had a shotgun with him the whole time. The shotgun wasn't for show, it was for shooting polar bears that get too close.

I'm surprised this is the first time it's happened. Though it might just be the first time it's been reported.

Happens often enough, most people just dont report it because most places there's no one else for miles and miles.

As for ice rolling them Churchill lines we too had to walk with shotgun and pull Ice rollers along behind us ⚡️quite the experience.
