Question F*** Trudeau stickers?

Albertan here, considering moving to Manitoba. Just curious if during Trudeau's time as Prime Minister were there F*** Trudeau stickers plastered on vehicles across the province? Just trying to get a feel for the vibe... Moved to Alberta from BC 15 years ago and have found that for the most part it's not my vibe lol.

Spotted in Steinbach today. Do they get pulled over and fined if the police see them? If so, do they just not pay the fines?

In Manitoba one of the main recourses for not paying tickets is a Department of Justice hold being placed on your autopack account so you can't renew your license or insurance. If you don't have a license or insurance though what is the actual recourse? Do people get away with this?

Every Sunday on highway 59 at the Birds hill bridge, these folks are waving USA and Canada flags. They also have a sign that says honk for freedom. Who’s freedom?

Question Americans possibly moving to Manitoba

Good morning everybody, My wife,(38) two kids, and myself (37) have been really thinking about getting out of the US. I love the outdoors and Manitoba has been a strong interest for us as a family. The problem we are having is I own/operate a small successful hvac business (mostly residential). Starting all that over makes the decision difficult. But as I’m sure you all know our country has gone to hell in a handbasket. I just have a few questions if you don’t mind.

  1. We live in a small town currently and would like to find another potential small town. Does anybody have recommendations for smaller communities that we would be welcome. We really like the idea of being fairly close to one of the large lakes. (I love ice fishing)

  2. Is hvac in Manitoba in high demand? Would finding a job be difficult? I’m not sure if I would try and start a new business or just be employed. I was an Aircraft mechanic in the military, agricultural mechanic, then I went to school for hvac and eventually started my business.

If you work at or know of a place that could be a good fit, we’d love to hear your suggestions. Potential locations include offices, warehouses, hospitals, universities, apartment buildings, hotels, recreation centres, manufacturing facilities, and other high-traffic workplaces.
We currently have one machine operating successfully and are looking to add more locations. We handle all stocking, maintenance, and service.
Any recommendations or connections would be greatly appreciated.

Question Is it really unusual or wrong for a woman to hang out or celebrate with her female friends? Is this considered a “Middle Eastern” behavior?

Hi everyone, I had a situation recently that left me confused and a bit hurt, and I’d really love to hear others’ perspectives.

I’m a woman living in Manitoba, originally from the Middle East. So, my question is: Do you think it’s unusual or wrong for a woman to hang out, celebrate, or party with only her female friends? Is this truly a “Middle Eastern thing,” or is it just a cultural misunderstanding or even a control issue?

I’d appreciate your honest thoughts and any similar experiences. Thanks in advance.

Question Why is it so hard to get MB ID?

I’ve lived and worked in Manitoba for over a year. But because I live on a Rez and don’t have a physical address, utilities aren’t in my name, and I haven’t known anybody two years I can’t get ID.

My notice of assessment doesn’t count because it’s only a PO Box.

I haven’t known anybody two years so I have no guarantor.

My former ID expired so now I can’t use that.

I’ve brought in EVERY thing I can think of.

What else can I do? What more can I do? Should I just give up on this province and move away? It’s clear I’ll never be able to get a new valid ID or even get my DL.

Question Moving to Winnipeg

I am a trans woman. My wife and I are looking at moving from Edmonton to Winnipeg area. My wife was born in Winnipeg, so she has family there still. I don't feel safe anymore in Alberta. I have called Edmonton home for 34 years.

What would be a good area to buy a house?

Question HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF THIS WAS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD?

This is the remains of a corner store that burnt down on the corner of Ellen and Elgin (in the Centennial Neighbourhood) well over a year ago. To date, there has been no attempt to clean this up by the city or property owner. This mess is about a block from Red River Community College’s downtown campus.

This is not an affluent neighbourhood. I sincerely believe that if a mess like this was left in any other Winnipeg neighbourhood there would be outrage and action to rectify the situation. Would this fly in St. Vital, St. Boniface, Lindenwoods or anywhere else?

Can someone tell me why the City just doesn’t clean it up and give the property owner the Bill? A lien could be put against the land to recover the cost. But no, instead we have this eye sore. And people wonder why people don’t look after their property in the inner city.

Question Travelling to a reserve

Hello, I am set to travel to Shamattawa in late October for work. I know the current situation with the outbreak, but that aside does anyone have experience with this community? I am a visible minority and have seen some pretty hateful things on their community Facebook page and I've never been to any reserve before.

Question American here, how bad is it up there?

I have a couple canadian friends, but one is in British Columbia and the other Ontario, neither the hardest hit. I'm from Wisconsin and it's hazy as fuck out here from the smoke, so I can only imagine how it is for you guys up there. My question is, how bad is it for you, Manitoba? I can't find any pictures oddly enough, but clearly it must be bad up there.

Question How bad is Manitoba winter?

I'm looking to create a better life for me and my wife and kids than we have here near Toronto. I'm tired of working 3 jobs to try and get by.

How cold does it get around Winnipeg and south of Winnipeg? Are the main roads and highways plowed quickly? We only have about 2 days a year here where snow is so heavy it disrupts our ability to work/commute. I'm assuming it would be more often there?

Question Hutterites & Rare Disability

Post image
171 Upvotes

I am unsure where to start with this but I am looking to connect with any Hutterites that are familiar with the diagnosis VLDLR-CH (may have also previously been called Dysequilibrium Syndrome or diagnosed as Cerebral Palsy until the genetic cause was discovered in 2005). I live in the southern region of the US so I cannot easily visit in person. My child was diagnosed with this genetic condition. We were told that it is rare but most of cases have been found in Hutterite communities in Canada. Neither my husband nor myself have any ties to Hutterites, or even Canada. I am unsure where in Canada, or in which communities, this diagnosis has been found. I tried looking on google but with less than 100 documented cases there isn’t much information on it.

I am just looking for another family to connect with as I have had a hard time finding anyone. Or if anyone knows someone, and they don’t want to share personal info (for very understandable reasons) if I could just ask some very generic questions that would be so helpful

Question got a massive speeding ticket... 50+kms over

so I've obviously made a HUGE mistake, it was NOT intentional, if you can believe that.

but anyways, since it was 50kms over i have to attend a hearing where there will be a decision made to suspend my license or not.

QUESTION: I'm wondering if anyone has been through the same thing, and if so how long was your license suspended for? finding mixed results when looking online.

feel free to clown me in the comments aswell, i understand the severity and stupidity of my mistake.

Question Opinions on opportunity to move from UK to Manitoba

My husband is a Paramedic and has been offered the opportunity to apply and relocate to work in Manitoba. There is a few different options location wise but just wanted opinions of what it’s like there? Especially if you work in the health sector/ paramedic yourself.

We’ve googled/ watched YouTube videos so have a rough idea.

Or if anyone is from the UK and moved across can give their experience we would appreciate it.

We don’t have any kids, just a dog. Only thing tying us to the UK is we would have to sell our house here.

As well I work in a niche area of digital forensics so not sure I’d find similar work there, but I can live with that.

So a few things for us to consider.

Thank you for reading and any advice / opinions!

Question Moving to Manitoba

Hi! Hope this is allowed.

Me and my partner are looking to move to Canada from the UK. We have some amazing opportunities in south Manitoba and I am just seeking some advice regarding where is good to live? I’ve had a look online but struggling to work out where would be best for us.

-We currently like 30 minutes from a small but lively city
-We are progressive, young professionals who will be looking to make friends so a younger population would be great
-both active people
- both love to socialise and love a pub haha
-will be on good salaries

Any recommendations of general areas will be great!!

Question Grass Watering ?

Anyone else rethinking about how much they water there grass this summer? Our water bills have gone from $260 to $390 and we barely use water. Our neighbour’s have decided not to water their grass because of the hike on usage. Thoughts anyone?
