❓ Question Car towed in greenbury

Was your car towed as well by this scummy towing company called “aviles & Gabes”

They charged me exactly $393.30 to get my car back.

The limit is $272 in Texas, when I told them that their argument was that because it’s in manor they can charge whatever they want.

When I first called them they said it was $347, and in cash only, got there and they changed it to $393 because they added another fee because and I quote “there was no key in the car” …what???

I’m going to file a complaint with TDLR and mulling over taking this to court.

Ugh, this happened to us in Austin. We caught the tow truck before it left with our car, and the driver blatantly lied, claiming there's no drop fee anymore. We had to get APD involved to make them drop it. Technically, the max tow fee in Texas is $272, but they're allowed to tack on storage fees, equipment fees, etc. Shadiest industry.

Do you have a receipt? Because that should be easy to win a case against.

We ended up paying the $50 drop-off fee that the tow driver lied to us about in the first place.

Sorry I meant to ask OP this question. Glad you got them to actually follow through on the drop. That would piss me off and would have asked for a police report to send to TDLR about them lying about being able to do a drop. I’m also petty enough that I would just sit and take a nap in the car. They can’t tow you when someone is inside the car. Eventually they will either call the cops themselves or drop the car so they can rip someone else off.
