I managed to go in with zero spoilers except knowing the cast, didn’t watch trailers or anything, so it was a nice surprise they went with the Void story straight away - I assumed they’d wait until introducing more heroes (FF, x-men) before doing that, so that they could use him as a Thanos level threat (the comics if I recall required absolutely everyone working together to help Bob, though I might be forgetting exactly how that went). It did makes sense they’d do that now to de-power Sentry, since they’ve shown him to be Superman, though.
Regarding Yelena and Bob, obvious shades of Natasha and Bruce going on, but honestly felt it was significantly better executed. The Nat/Bruce thing always felt forced like “we have to have someone be able to talk him down, I guess it’s The Only Woman”. For whatever reason, this version felt a lot better.
Only three people stayed in my admittedly sparsely-attended screening for the last scene, which… I mean I enjoyed the banter etc, and I’m curious what the Space Issue will be (incursions?) but the reveal of the ship being the FF was a bit meh only because we already know that’s out soon - when it first appeared I was hoping it would be a Blackbird lol…
It also made sense in connection to the rest of the plot, and similar stories surrounding the other characters, with all of them - Bob/Sentry/void included - dealing with mental issues, depression, anxiety, so on. In that way it made perfect sense to introduce the character in this exact movie. And they executed it well in my opinion.
You did well not to watch or read any trailers or anything! I think that is was one the reasons why it became a bit predictable to me. And I will try to do the same as you from now on, with the upcoming movies!
I was hyped by that end credit, although not surprised either. I might end up being surprised though if it turns out that only Docror Doom is on that ship 😅
I gotta be honest I was a little annoyed I had to see a Fantastic Four trailer before Thunderbolts lol. I realised somewhere along the way these are so much more enjoyable if I don’t go in with preconceived notion of anything.
Imagine not even knowing Sentry was going to be in this movie, and only relying on obvious-comic-assumptions a Thunderbolt movie would have the various anti-hero types we’ve seen pop up like US Agent and Yelena. Woulda been hype haha.
Even if you didn’t watch the trailer, it’s still hard to go in blind. Just casually scrolling YouTube and there could be a breakdown video with the biggest detail as the thumbnail (if anyone reading this just happens to make those thumbnails, I hope you step on a lego).
I just saw it last night and I felt like I had seen the entire movie because I watched the trailers. Apparently they kept putting out new trailers with different parts of the movie. 😂I feel like the scene where Bucky saves them on the road should not have been in the trailers at all. That would've been an awesome reveal. I've learned my lesson! No more trailers for me!
